Carroll had a Racoon River Conference matchup on Friday night against Carlisle. The Tigers came in ranked #10 in Class 3A and 3rd in the RRC. The Tigers’ defense was really good, which helped them transition and get buckets. The Tigers put themselves up 9 going into the 2nd. Carroll managed to outscore Carlisle in 3 out of 4 quarters, with Carlisle’s two best scorers being held to 0 fieldgoals in the first half and trailing 31-16. Carroll once again outscored Carlisle in the 3rd as they had a 21-point lead. Carlisle came out hot in the 4th and outscored the Tigers 25-15 in the 4th, but would fall 64-53. The Tigers have a break until they face ADM again on Tuesday.

Kuemper hit the road two hours down south to take on Glenwood Friday night. The Knights sat 2nd in the Hawkeye 10, with Glenwood at 3rd, meaning this game had big conference implications. Kuemper played very well, with plenty of open looks, and they nailed many of the outside shots, shooting 46% from the 3pt line. Kuemper rolled early, taking a 25-15 lead after one. Kuemper scored their most points in the 2nd as they would hold Glenwood to 17 with a couple of back and forth sequences, but Kuemper would head into the break up 52-32. Kuemper’s defense became the story in the 3rd, with Glenwood scoring only 7 points and trailing 77-39. Kuemper pulled their starters at the 4th and scored 12 to close out the game with an 89-53 win on the road. The Knights had all 5 starters in double-digit scoring.

East Sac hosted Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Friday evening. East Sac came in at 1-8 on the season while SLSM was searching for its first win of the year. The Raiders came out and had their best start of the year by far. East Sac would put up 29 points and be up 29-6. The Raiders would make the extra pass to find the best shot, a major emphasis in the game. The Raiders would hold SLSM to 0 in the 2nd and the 4th in a good defensive game. The Raiders also had 4 guys in double digits and had only 5 turnovers compared to 19 assists. East Sac would pick up a 76-8 win at home and find their second win of the season. SLSM falls to 0-10. The Raiders are off until they host West Bend Mallard on Tuesday.

Paton-Churdan hosted Coon Rapids-Bayard on Friday night. CRB was coming off its first loss of the season to Treynor, and P-C fell to Ogden. It was closed early as CRB scored first and pushed the lead to 8-3. Both teams would trade 4 points as CRB led 12-7 after 1. P-C cut the lead to 15-12 at the start of the 2nd before CRB outscored them 21-14 to lead 37-26 at halftime. CRB came out hot in the 3rd and 4th as they outscored p-C 21-8 in the 3rd. Plenty of that was from the 3pt line with 14 made threes. CRB closed the game with a 35-12 4th quarter for a 93-46 win on the road.

Audubon hosted Treynor on Friday evening. The Wheelers were coming off a loss to Underwood, while Treynor beat Coon Rapids-Bayard on Thursday. Treynor jumped out early and did not look back, leading 19-7 after the 1st. Treynor’s defense was tough, holding the Wheelers to 5 team points in the 2nd quarter to lead 37-12. The Wheelers had a better 3rd with 13 points, but Treynor still maintained a 49-25 lead going into the 3rd. Treynor would pick up a 64-41 win on the road as Audubon falls to 7-7 on the season.

Glidden-Ralston hosted Ar-We-Va for Rolling Valley Conference basketball on Friday evening. The Rockets came in at 8-5 while Glidden-Ralston came in at 2-10. Glidden-Ralston came out hot as they shared the ball and hit the open shots they had and also added some transition layups to lead 14-6. Glidden-Ralston and Ar-We-Va went back and forth in the 2nd before the Wildcats closed the quarter out on a 7-2 run to lead 27-18 at the half. Ar-We-Va started to dial it up in the 3rd as G-R struggled to shoot until Colton Rohrbeck hit a couple of shots to trail 36-35 going into the 4th. Both teams fought defensively until the 1-minute mark, where Hayden Studer hit a 3 to put AWV up 46-45. The Wildcats could not respond, as they fell 46-45.

South Central Calhoun only had four guys score on Friday, but it was enough as they had a strong defensive effort, holding the Warriors in single digits until the 4th quarter. They built a 38-23 lead heading into the final stanza and put the game away down the stretch. The Titans came out shooting the ball well from deep with Evan Myers making 4-3’s in the 1st half and Charlie Nattress adding 2-3’s. Alta-Aurelia put a focus on the deep ball in the 2nd half and Charlie Nattress made the Titans only one. Nattress was critical in the 2nd half, scoring nine of the teams 14-points.

Charlie Nattress led the Titans with 19-points with Evan Myers adding 15-points.

They have won three of their last four, improving to 6-7 overall as they are scheduled to host Pocahontas Area on Tuesday.

IKM-Manning earned a nice win at home on Friday, climbing to 4th in the Western Iowa Conference with their second win this season over Riverside. The Wolves were balanced offensively with two players in double figures and two more a few points away. The defense did a nice job, especially on the glass, pulling down 31 defensive rebounds as they forced the Bulldogs into tough shots. The game was tight going into the 4th quarter with IKM-Manning leading 16-12 at the end of the 1st quarter, 34-26 at half and 41-38 entering the final stanza. IKM-Manning stretched the lead in the 4th quarter with a strong defensive effort, hitting some shots on the offensive end and making free throws down the stretch. They went 5-7 from the line while hitting 6-17 from deep, and shooting 43.8% from the floor.

Ben Ramsey had a game high 20-points along with 5 rebounds by Wyatt Danner and Ashton Ahrenholtz were huge on the board with both having 12 rebounds. Danner added 6-points with 3 steals and Ahrenholtz scoring 8-points. Brock Kusel shot the ball well, going 7-10 and finishing with 14-points. Luke Janssen added 5 rebounds off the bench.

The Wolves improved to 6-5 and will head on the road Saturday to play Exira-EHK on 93.7 KKRL.
