East Sac set a school record on Monday, earning a big win at home against SE Valley. The Raiders held the Jaguars to the fewest points allowed with 11-points. The old record was 13-points against West Bend Mallard on January 9th, 2016 and earned their second biggest margin of victory in school history, winning by 64-points. The school record was a 90-24 win over Alta-Aurelia on February 11th, 2012. Their ball movement, defensive pressure and shooting were outstanding early as they built a 35-0 lead before SE Valley scored to end the 1st quarter. The Raiders used a pressure defense the first few minutes, then dropped into a 2-3 zone the rest of the game. They pounded the ball inside to Miranda Gerdes early as she scored three of their first-five baskets and had 12 of their first 21-points. The Raiders shot 50% from beyond the arc with Sarah Bontrager, Reese Aschinger and Tori Hauser all hitting 3-3’s. East Sac led 54-6 at half. They were able to get every girl in uniform in the game and keep their defensive intensity in the half court and had outstanding ball movement all game long. Eight of their eleven girls scored and eight girls also had an assist. The Raiders had four girls in double figures and two more with 8-points. East Sac finished with 13 steals and turned the ball over only 7 times.
Miranda Gerdes led the team with 16-points with Reese Aschinger adding 13-points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Sarah Bontrager and Tori Hauser each hit 3-3’s and scored 11-points. Bontrager added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Chloe Bieret added 8-points and 8 assists with 3 steals. Scottie Eichhorn had 8-points and a team high 3 blocked shots with 4 rebounds.
The Raiders improved to 4-6 overall and will head to Emmetsburg on Friday.
