Kuemper Vs Carlisle At Iowa Central

Kuemper got their offense going in the 2nd half, outscoring the 5th ranked Wildcats 30-29 but a cold shooting 1st half put them in a hole they weren’t able to dig out of. Carlisle held Kuemper to 5-points in the 1st half on one made field goal and three free throws, building a 27-5 lead at half. The Knights were on their heals early against an aggressive defense and the dribble penetration by the Wildcats on the offensive end. Kuemper played more confident in the 2nd half, getting to the lane more and kicking out for better shots from beyond the arc. The Knights made eight 3’s in the 2nd half with five different players making at least one, led by four from Elsa Tiefenthaler.

Kaylie Simons hit a pair of free throws pulling Kuemper within 4-2 early but the Knights didn’t score again until Morgan Masching scored a bucket off the bench late in the 1st quarter as Carlisle had built a 13-2 lead. The Wildcats led 17-4 at the end of the 1st quarter, extending it in the 2nd quarter with Elsa Tiefenthaler hitting a free throw to but the Knights deficit to 23-5. Tiefenthaler’s free throw was the only points for the Knights in the 2nd quarter as the Wildcats built a 27-5 lead at half. Ella Smith and Macy Comito carried the Wildcats in the 1st half, combining for 22 of their 27-points.

Elsa Tiefenthaler showed right away in the 2nd half that it would be different, hitting a deep three, followed by a bucket by Kaylie Simons and Kuemper trailed 28-10. A Wildcats 9-0 run put the Knights back in a hole but they kept battling with Tiefenthaler adding a pair of 3’s and Kaylie Simons hitting a three in the 3rd quarter as Kuemper kept the game from getting out of control. Their biggest deficit was 41-13 but they fought back within 19 early in the  4th quarter on a three from Mackenzie Yetmar. Charlotte Hackfort, Lilly Petersen added a three in the 4th quarter and Georgia Presott drained a wing jumper for the Knights as Kuemper outscored the Wildcats 16-14 in the 4th quarter.

Elsa Tifenthaler led the Knights with 14-points to go with 4 rebounds, matching Alivia Schenkelberg for the team lead in rebounds. Kaylie Simons added 7 points and Alivia Schenkelberg and Elsa Tiefenthaler both had 2 steals. Mackenzie Yetmar added a team  high 2 assists.

The Knights fall to 5-2 overall and will head to Bishop Heelan on January 8th.

Glidden Ralston rallied in the 4th quarter to earn their second game in two days, improving to 4-1 in their last five games. The Wildcats and Rams battled through three quarters with the Rams edging ahead in the 3rd quarter. Both teams played with great intensity on the defensive end early. The Wildcats held Greene County to 9-points in the 1st quarter and 17-points in the 1st half. Their defensive pressure forced the Rams into turnovers as Glidden Ralston ended the game with 18 steals. The game was tight heading into the 4th quarter with Greene County up 31-30. The Wildcats offense found an extra gear in the 4th with Bryn Rene and Chloe Peters helping them edge away for a 47-41 win.

Bryn Renze led the Wildcats with 17-points to go with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Chloe Peters added 13-points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals and Olivia Squibb had 8-points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Allison Snyder and Kassidy Wenck both had 6 rebounds with Wenck adding a team high 5 steals. Jenna Subbert contributed 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Wildcats close out the 1st half of the season at 5-2. They entertain Exira-EHK on January 3rd.

IKM-Manning earned their 5th win of the season and 3rd win in their last four games, using a big 3rd quarter to beat Missouri Valley on the road. The Wolves led 24-21 at half before blowing the game open in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Big Red 20-3 to grab control of the game. Keagan Eischeid was huge inside, making 12 baskets while Oriah Meiners forced he defense to have to know where she was at, making a pair of shots from three. IKM-Manning hit free throws all game, helping them to keep Missouri Valley at bay in the 4th as the Big Red tried to claw back into the game.

Keagan Eischeid was incredible for the Wolves with 28-points and 15 rebounds, both team and game highs. She added 2 steals and 4 blocked shots, dominating in the paint. Oriah Meiners added 12-points with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. McKenna Benton shot it really well from the outside, hitting 3 of 4 from deep, finishing with 9-points to go with 3 steals. Addisyn Bandow had 8 rebounds and Anna Stangl had 7-points with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

The Wolves improved to 5-3 overall and will host AHSTW on January 6th.
