Carroll At Winterset
Carroll 60
Winterset 50
A big 3rd quarter helped the Tigers survive a tough shooting night, winning by 10 at Winterset. The Tigers hit 7 of 27 shots from beyond the arc, but outscored the Huskies 21-3 in the 3rd to rally from down 30-19 at half. The rally started on the defensive end in the 2nd half as Carroll picked up the defensive pressure, speeding up Winterset. That forced the Huskies to turn it over and Carroll was able to capitalize. Offensively Carroll started moving the ball better and did a nice job attacking the paint and basket. Carroll found their rhythm as they took the lead for good. Mac Collison was terrific on the defensive end, finishing with 7 steals, helping spark the rally. Winterset fouled Carroll down the stretch and Carroll was able to seal the win at the lane. The Tigers outscored the Huskies 41-20 in the 2nd half.
Mac Collison and Jared Mohr each had 13-points with Collison adding 7 steals and Mohr pulling down 6 rebounds, adding 3 steals. Mohr struggled with foul trouble in the 1st half but was able to stay out of trouble in the 2nd half, seeing more playing time. Trey Tassell and Lual Tharjiath both had 9-points with Tharjiath adding 10 rebounds and Tassell blocking a pair of shots.
The Tigers have won 2 in a row, improving to 3-2 as they prepare to host Kuemper on Monday on KIKD 106.7.

Woodbine at Coon Rapids-Bayard
Coon Rapids-Bayard 63
Woodbine 54 (2 OT)
What a game. Coon Rapids-Bayard hosted Woodbine Friday night in what many sources said would be an early look at two teams capable of competing at the highest level of Class 1A. The Crusaders were without Gavin Heiderscheit in their lineup, which took away a double-digit scorer and another big body on the defensive end of the floor. This was a CRB team that came out hungry, wanting more than just a win; they wanted to avenge the way they had lost in the postseason a year earlier. Woodbine had taken out Coon Rapids-Bayard in the Substate final last year. Coon Rapids-Bayard started out racing as Cal Heydon and Ty Heydon got buckets, and Caden Oswald had a free-throw to go up 5-0. Woodbine answered as it was back and forth until a 10-8 break after 1. In the 2nd quarter, the Crusaders opened up the quarter with a 5-0 run to go up 15-8 before yet another run to go up 22-14 with 3 seconds left. Landon Blum caught the ball with 1 second at the half-court line and shot a form jumpshot and banked it home to give some momentum back to the Tigers as they trailed 22-17 going into the break. Both Cal Heydon and Landon Blum led all scorers with 12 points each, and that was the matchup that many had eyes on. In the 3rd, the Crusaders would go on a huge run to take a 10-point lead at 30-20. Cal Heydon had a dunk in there before a timeout, which really boosted the team’s morale, with smiles and highfives on the CRB bench, and hands on heads and tiredness for Woodbine. The Crusaders would hold a 36-25 lead into the 4th. The Tigers completely flipped the script in the 4th, going on a 13-2 run to tie it at 38 and 40. They would then go up by 5 with 20 seconds to go, before what would probably be the craziest ending to regulation. Cal Heydon would miss a three than get a kick out of a rebound and drill the 2nd chance three-pointer to cut the lead to 2. Woodbine would get fouled with 6 seconds and make the first. On the second, Cal Heydon gained possession, then lost the ball out of bounds. Woodbine inbounded the ball to Landon Blum, who tried to save it back in bounds. Ty Heydon picked it off and outletted it to Cal Heydon. With 2 seconds to go and with no one better to shoot the game-winning 3, Cal Heydon knocked down a three to tie it up and head to OT. OT was very slow and sloppy as both teams missed shots and only scored 2 points each to head into double OT tied at 49-49. In double OT, Cal Heydon drove the ball down the court off a steal and hit a scoop layup with an and-1 which was Landon Blum’s 5th foul, and he fouled out. Next time Jax Pryor who was their other big guy down low fouled out as well which really sealed the deal. Ty Heydon had some big shots and Caden Oswald had a big layup and steal to seal the deal for a big 63-54 win at home in double overtime. The Crusaders cement themselves at #1 in the Rolling Valley conference and head into the winter break undefeated.

East Sac 40
East Sac had a cold 1st half shooting the basketball. The defense kept them in the game in the 1st quarter, trailing 10-7 heading to the 2nd quarter. The offensive struggles hung on in the 2nd quarter but the offense couldn’t keep up, allowing the Titans to score 15-points and lead 25-10 at half. East Sac moved the ball well, getting it inside but struggled to finish at the rim. The Raiders showed great character in the 2nd half, battling back as the offense found a little rhythm. They kept working hard on the defensive end and the ball moved quicker on offense, helping them pull within 7-points late in the 3rd quarter. The Raiders kept it close into the 4th quarter but a miscue sparked the Titans as they were able to stretch the lead down the stretch.
Jordan Ulmer led the Raiders with 16-points along with 5 rebounds, Kade Snyder had a team high 9 rebounds and Beckem Kluver and Grayson Rubendall both had 6-points. Carson Schmitt added 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
