Audubon at Coon Rapids-Bayard
Coon Rapids-Bayard 54
Audubon 47
Audubon and Coon Rapids-Bayard faced off in Coon Rapids to open up the 2025-26 Boys Basketball season. It was a great atmosphere as Audubon traveled well and the JV game ended in a game winner for CRB so it was just a good time. This game had a big feel for Audubon as CRB has been considered a state tourney contender and Audubon had the chance to go in and reek some havoc. The first quarter was a slugfest on defense as both teams had the first game itis with turnovers and slow offenses to make an 11-6 Crusaders lead. 2nd Quarter was different as both teams flipped the script and traded blows. Cal Heydon really came into his own during the second as he would hit shot after shot and get 18 in the first half. Ty Heydon would have 8 as well to make a 28-23 ballgame at halftime. Halftime must have lit a spark under the Wheelers as it seemed like a whole different intensity and game in the second half. Jorgen Nowatzke and Aiden Kjergaard both would have double digits in the game with Kjergaard having 14 and Nowatzke having 16. Nowatzke had a stretch in the 3rd where he scored 7 straight off the bench for the Wheelers as it was a one possession game for most of the third with CRB leading 36-35 after 3. It was back and forth in the 4th quarter as CRB would score than Audubon would fight back and it was a slow fourth time wise but the action was insane. Cal Heydon had a couple of baseline jumpers and would make it tough for Audubon to hold a tie. Heydon would be the man that got fouled plenty and shot 11 free throws and made 7. Heydon would knock down two free throws at 52-49 to ice the game and pick up a 54-49 win. CRB moves to 1-0 while Audubon falls to 0-1 on the young season.
