The Kuemper defense made enough stops, getting critical interceptions in the 2nd half from Braxton Vonnahme and Griffin Glynn, which sealed the win. Charles Mayhall made a pair of field goals and scored a touchdown as Kuemper had three different players score a rushing touchdown. Taylen Alford had a huge night on the ground, getting his first career start at running back. The Kuemper offense had two scoring drives that were 14-plays or more.
Kuemper opened the scoring with an 8-play drive in the 1st quarter after the defense forced a three and out. The Knights worked the ball downfield with Taylen Alford being the focal point and the offensive line getting a big push up front. Alford scored on a 1-yard run with 7:24 left in the 1st quarter and Kuemper led 6-0. The Falcons hit a deep pass down the middle on their next drive but the Knights held them on downs at the Kuemper 30. The Kuemper offense mixed the run and pass on their second drive, marching 70-yards on 15-plays with Charles Mayhall scoring on a 1-yard run. The Knights led 13-0 wwith 9:15 left in the 1st half. The game tightened up with OABCIG marching down the field for a 65-yard drive, scoring on a 6-yard run by Kade Spotts. They pulled within 13-7 with 6:28 left in the half. Neither offense did much the rest of the half but Kuemper forced the Falcons to punt with 0:22 seconds left on a drive that started on their own 8-yard line. Kuemper took advantage with Brock Badding hitting a couple key passes, setting up Charles Mayhall for a 28-yard field goal to end the half with Kuemper up 16-7.
The Knights got the ball to start the 2nd half and ate up nearly 8:00 with a 14-play drive that ended with Brock Badding scoring on a 1-yard run with 4:24 left in the 3rd. The Knights had stretched the lead to 23-7. A Braxton Vonnahme interception set up the next Knights score. Kuemper marched down the field on a 12-yard drive, ending with a 37-yard field goal by Charles Mayhall. The Knights led 26-7 with just over 7:00 minutes remaining. OABCIG wasn’t done yet as they battled back into the game They scored quickly with Raif Jensen finding Jaxx DeJean for a 32-yard touchdown, scoring in 4-plays. The 2-point conversion was good and the Falcons were down 26-15 with 5:44 left. A three and out for Kuemper left the door open for the Falcons but the defense made a big stop of 4th down at the Knights 40-yard line. Kuemper went three and out again but Griffin Glynn sealed the win with an interception with 1:10 left and Kuemper held on to win 26-15.
Taylen Alford led the Knights offense with 144-yards rushing on 32-carries with a touchdown. Brock Badding had 144-yard passing and scored a rushing touchdown. Charles Mayhall made a pair of field goals from 28 and 37-yards along with scoring a rushing touchdown. Griffin Glynn had 6 receptions for 63-yards and an interception. Braxton Vonnahme added an interception.
The Knights improved to 10-0 and will host Cherokee on Friday. The Braves beat Unity Christian 40-14. The game will be on 1380 AM/95.1 FM KCIM.
