The defenses came up with key plays for both teams most of the night with a flurry on points early in the 2nd quarter. The Cubs used a turnover late in the 2nd quarter to tie the game and flip the momentum. They got the ball to start the 2nd half and took their first lead of the game and never relinquished it. Carroll had a pair of chances to tie the game in the 2nd half, throwing an interception in the end zone late in the 3rd quarter and turning it over on downs at the Nevada 21-yard line with 2:35 remaining. Nevada picked up a big first down on a pass play that put them deep into Carroll territory and was able to salt the game away, kneeling out the clock inside the Carroll 5-yard line.
Carroll had the ball three times in the 1st quarter, punting, turning it over on downs and punting. Nevada wasn’t any better on offense, they turned it over on downs on their opening possession and punted on their second possession of the 1st quarter. The game was scoreless and looked like it might be a defensive battle all game as both teams defensive line were winning the line of scrimmage. It was fitting that the first points of the game were scored by the defense. Mac Collison came up with an interception on the Cubs first drive of the 2nd quarter and returned it 22-yards for a touchdown, putting Carroll up 7-0 with 11:43 left in the half. Nevada responded with a big drive on their next possession. Drake Hinson found Lucas Brown for a 30-yard touchdown with 10:00 left in the half, tying the game at 7. Chase Schable set up Carroll with a great kickoff return, getting the ball to the Nevada 48-yard line. Adam Malik broke off a nifty run, weaving through the defense for a 42-yard touchdown and Carroll led 14-7 with 9:08 left in the half. The Carroll defense came up with a big stop with Tallon Crandall coming up with a big interception at the Tigers 6-yard line with 7:34 left in the half. The Tigers were moving the ball downfield on the ground but fumbled on a 3rd down at midfield and Nevada recovered. The Cubs struck with 0:07 left in the half with Drake Hinson finding Lucas Brown for a 3-yard touchdown, tying the game at 14 at half.
The Cubs got the ball to start the 2nd half at the Carroll 46-yard line as the Tigers kickoff didn’t go 10-yards. Drake Hinson threw his third touchdown pass of the game on the 7th play of the drive. He hit John Nelson on a 15-yard touchdown, giving the Cubs a 21-14 lead with 8:54 left in the 3rd quarter. Both teams punted on their next possessions and Carroll got the ball at midfield. They marched down the field and appeared poised to tie the game but a miscommunication on a pass play turned into an interception in the endzone. Nevada ate up the rest of the 3rd quarter took up some time in the 4th but had to punt. Carroll started at the Cubs 47-yard line and went on a 10-play drive. They faced a 4th and 3 but were called for a penalty making it 4th and 8. Chase Schable came open in the seam by the goal line but the pass was too high and the Cubs came up with a big stop. Carroll had their timeouts remaining and needed to make a stop with 2:35 remaining but Nevada found their tight end Cedar Smith for a 52-yard gain on 2nd down and were able to run out the clock.
Adam Malik had 171-yards rushing with a touchdown for Carroll. Mac Collison scored on a 22-yard interception return and Kieran Polking had 2 catches for 16-yards.
The Tigers end their season at 6-4.
