Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Kuemper Defense Dominates in Win on Friday

Kuemper Catholic wins 35-0 over Grand View Christian in a Class 2A first-round playoff game held Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at Carroll Athletic Field.

The Kuemper defense shinned on Friday night, creating seven turnovers in the game with five of them in the 1st half. The defense carried the game as the offense was a bit out of sync, struggling to consistently finish drives in the 2nd quarter. They took advantage of the turnovers, scoring three touchdowns on offense after a turnover and getting a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown by Braxton Vonnahme. They led 21-0 at half, putting the game into continuous clock late in the 3rd quarter. The Knights ran for 108-yards and passed for 239-yards.

Kuemper was crisp on the opening drive, marching 62-yards on 8-plays with Brock Badding hitting Brayton Alford for a 36-yard touchdown. Kuemper led 7-0 with 9:02 left in the 1st quarter. Austin Heinrichs set up the next Kuemper touchdown as the defense forced the fumble at the Grand View Christian 47-yard line. Jarin Hoffman scored 8-plays later with an 8-yard run. Kuemper looked in charge, leading 14-0 with 3:46 left in the 1st quarter. Both teams punted on their next drive with the Knights drive lasting 10-plays. Lucas Diehl, who was in the backfield all night, ripped the ball away from the Thunder ball carrier, giving the Knights the ball on the Grand View Christian 15-yard line early in the 2nd quarter. Brock Badding hit Brayton Alford for a 12-yard touchdown 3-plays later as Kuemper went ahead 21-0 with 9:22 left in the half. The Kuemper defense kept the turnovers coming with Griffin Glynn, Jack Badding and Dylan Schon all having an interception. The Knights forced two fumbles and had three interceptions in the 1st half. The Knights offense sputtered the rest of the half. They started drives at their own 47-yard line, their own 14-yard line and their own 22 and didn’t get a 1st down. They turned it over on downs, punted and threw and interception as they struggled against the speed of the Thunder defense.

The Knights defense started the 2nd half, forcing Grand View Christian to punt after a three and out. The offense couldn’t get anything going but got the ball back quickly with Griffin Glynn having his second interception. The Knights started the drive at midfield. The quickly moved the ball down field with Brayton Alford scoring on a 7-yard run with 7:28 left in the 3rd quarter. The touchdown pushed the lead to 28-0. It soon became a continuous clock with Braxton Vonnahme picking a Thunder pass off and weaving his way through the defense for a 56-yard touchdown. The Knights led 35-0 with 7:03 left in the 3rd quarter. Grand View Christian had their best drive of the game but turned it over on downs at the Kuemper 17-yard line with 10:05 left in the game. Their drive lasted 13-plays. Taylon Alford led Kuemper on a nice drive and played well in the 4th quarter but the drive ended on downs as the clock kept churning.

Brayton Alford had 4 catches with two going for touchdowns. He added 5 carries for 23-yards and another touchdown. Alford led the Knights with 8 tackles with 5 solo. Brock Badding went 13-23 years for 182-yards with a pair of touchdowns. Jarin Hoffman had 47-yards rushing with a touchdown. Braxton Vonnahme had 5 catches for 69-yards, adding a 56-yard interception return for at touchdown. Taylon Alford was 3-4 passing for 57-yards. Griffin Glynn added a pair of interceptions.
