25-11, 25-5, 25-9
Kuemper rolled on Tuesday in the opening round of the postseason, sweeping Saydel while holding them to a combined 25-points in the three sets. The Knights serve was strong, finishing with 17 aces and forcing the Eagles to play out-of-system often. Kuemper was focused early and Elsa Tiefenthaler had a strong game moving the ball around but also setting the areas that Kuemper could have the most success. They had a chance to win all three sets with Saydel in single digits but the Eagles went on a late run in set one to score 11.
Elsa Tiefenthaler fed Kolbi Peter early as she had kills on three of the Knights first-four points and four of the seven. Mariah Heuton took over on the outside, scoring four straight kills to extend the Kuemper led to 14-4. Mia Milligan had a nice service run and Brianna Wittrock had back-to-back kills, giving Kuemper a 19-5 lead. The lead grew to 21-5 on a kill from Kaylie Simons but Saydel scored five in a row before the Knights put the set away with a kill from Kolbi Peter.
Addy Anthofer was strong early in set two with a pair of kills as Kuemper took a 5-0 lead on an ace by Elsa Tiefenthaler. Brainna Wittrock took over from there serving six aces to help Kuemper stretch the lead to 14-1. Addy Anthofer had a kill and Kuemper led 15-2. Kolbi Peter had a pair of kills and Kaylie Simons had back-to-back aces, with another ace after a Kolbi Peter kill. Elsa Tiefenthaler ended the set with a kill and Kuemper won 25-5.

Carroll at OABCIG- Class 3A Region 6
OABCIG 3
Carroll 1
25-15, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22
Carroll hit the road for their opening round matchup to take on OABCIG. The Falcons and Tigers were very evenly matched skill wise and talent wise. Both teams came out with a fire early and a fan in attendance could feel the playoff atmosphere. The Falcons served well in Set 1 as they would find seams in the Tiger defense and got them out of system. The Falcons had a strong showing early as they jumped up 12-6. The Tigers kept themselves in it early with attacks from their front row players. Amanda Wardell, Analia Ayala, Chloe Kock, and Kyra Hosenfelt all had good nights up front. The block that the Falcons set up early was trouble for the Tigers as they would fall in Set 1, 25-15. Something that fans must tip their cap to the Tigers for is that they never gave up and they improved in each and every set that they played. Set 2 was a lot closer as it was back and forth up until 5. OABCIG would go up by 2 before the Tigers came back to tie it at 8. OABCIG would go on an 8-0 run to make it 16-8. Addisyn Pritchard would go on a service run for the Falcons and got the Tigers on their heels in the middle. The Tigers made it interesting late in the set as they cut it to 6 before a 2 point run made Set 2 a 25-17 win for OABCIG. Set 3 was very different for the Tigers and it was apparent early. The system started to set in and the serve receive looked the best it did all night. The Tigers and Falcons remained tied 13 times in Set 3 and it was close all the way through. Where the Tigers made their money in the set was at 19-17, Analia Ayala would get back to back kills to give Carroll a 21-17 lead. Amanda Wardell would also get a kill along with Ayala to close out the Set and get the win 25-19. Set 4 was much of the same as it was tied 11 times. Everyone in attendance was on the edge of their seat watching what was quoted as “the most fun opening round matchup of the postseason.” Both teams were inching closer to the finish line as OABCIG sat at 22-20. They would than go on a 3-2 run to win Set 4, 25-22. The Falcons win 3-1 over Carroll and now head to Orange City on Thursday to take on Unity Christian. For the Tigers, they finish the season 16-19 and went out performing well down the stretch of the season.
