The two teams traded touchdowns early before Coon Rapids Bayard started to distance themselves on the way to their fifth win of the season, clinching 2nd in the district and a playoff berth. The Crusaders were able to have success running the ball and throwing it as Tucker Lewis ran for four touchdowns and passed for a pair of touchdowns. Glidden Ralston got three long touchdown runs for most of their offensive production. The game was tight with Coon Rapids Bayard leading 16-6 at the end of the 1st quarter before opening up a 38-12 lead at half. Glidden Ralston was battling injuries before the game, missing five starters. They lost two more starters during the games.
Coon Rapids Bayard took the opening possession and slowly marched down the field. The Wildcats defense was making it tough, playing physical against the run. Caden Oswald and Ethan Bauer were working hard to move the chains. Bauer broke off a 20-yard run for their first big play, putting the Crusaders up 8-0 with 5:46 left in the 1st quarter. Glidden Ralston struck quick with Landon Rohrbeck breaking free for a 59-yard touchdown run on the Wildcats first play, pulling them within 8-6 with 5:27 left in the 1st quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard answered quickly, scoring on the fourth play of their next drive with Tucker Lewis finding Gavin Heiderscheit for a 9-yard touchdown. The Crusaders led 16-6 with 3:22 left in the 1st quarter. A Wildcat punt led to another Tucker Lewis touchdown pass as he found Caleb Hoffman for a 5-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 22-6 early in the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats cut into the lead with Landon Rohrbeck breaking free for a tremendous 60-yard run. The play started right and he looked like he was going to be tackled for a big loss, but he broke the tackle and spun back to the left before cutting up the middle for a the touchdown. The Wildcats trailed 22-12 with 10:09 left in the half. The Wildcats defense stuffed a Crusaders drive with Carson Peters picking off a pass at the 6-yard line. The game changed after that as Coon Rapids Bayard took control. The defense stuffed Glidden Ralston and the Crusaders took over at midfield. The offense found their rhythm and Ethan Bauer broke off a 28-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 30-12 with 5:06 left in the half. Tucker Lewis found Max Shirbroun for a 22-yard touchdown with 0:40 left in the half and Coon Rapids Bayard led 38-12 at half.
The Crusaders forced a punt to open the 2nd half and Tucker Lewis found Caleb Hoffman down the sideline, setting up the two for a 5-yard touchdown on the next play. The Crusaders were off and running, with Tucker Lewis scoring on a 14-yard run and a 3-yard run, making it 60-12 with 2:00 left in the 3rd quarter. The scoring ended with Colten Rohrbeck scoring on a 52-yard run for Glidden Ralston with 4:54 left in the game.
Tucker Lewis had a breakout night for Coon Rapids Bayard, going 7-9 passing for 103-yards and 4 touchdowns, adding 86-yards rushing on 9 carries with 2 touchdowns. Ethan Bauer had 203-yards rushing with 2 touchdowns. Caleb Hoffman had 4 catches for 67-yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Landon Rohrbeck carried the ball 15 times for 137-yards and 2 touchdowns for Glidden Ralston. Colten Rohrbeck added 51-yards rushing with a touchdown.
The Crusaders went 5-3 overall, finishing 2nd 8-man district 9. They head to Clarksville for a playoff game on KIKD 106.7 on Friday. Glidden Ralston finished the season 2-6.
