South Central Calhoun controlled the game at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball Friday, earning a comfortable win over their rival in East Sac. The Titans defense forced four turnovers, three interceptions and a fumble recovery while the offense scored on their first-three possessions to open the game. East Sac struggled to establish their running game, finishing with 23-yards on 21 carries. They had some success with the short passing game but didn’t have the time to look downfield as the Titans pressured the quarterback all game. South Central Calhoun was able to establish Cooper Nattress in the middle run game early, then had success on the edges with Hayden Stickrod and Luke Patterson.
Garrett Krause gave South Central Calhoun the momentum right away, intercepting a pass on the third play of the game. The Titans started at the East Sac 20-yard line and scored two plays later on a 12-yard run by Cooper Nattress. They led 7-0 with 10:43 left in the 1st quarter. East Sac got a first down on their next possession but punted the ball away and the Titans marched 73-yards on 9-plays, hurting themselves with four penalties on the drive. They kept picking up 3rd and long situations and scored on a 1-yard run by Cade Higgins, making it 13-0 with 2:34 left in the 1st quarter. A second Raiders punt led to another Titans touchdown with Luke Patterson rambled in from 6-yards out with 8:08 left in the 1st half. The Titans went 50-yards on 9-plays and led 19-0. Neither team mustered much offense the rest of the half with the longest drive being four plays. The Titans defense got interceptions from Hayden Stickrod and Evan Myers.
East Sac had new energy to start the 2nd half with Seth Donelson making a nice play on the opening play. Hayden Stickrod switched the momentum back to South Central Calhoun on the next play, scoring on a 64-yard run, making it 25-0 with 11:05 left in the 3rd quarter. The Titans defense forced a blocked punt and recovered it at the Raiders 13-yard line. They added to their lead with Coltley Timmerman scoring on a 3-yard run. The Titans were up 33-0 with 8:07 left in the 3rd. An East Sac fumble, recovered by Wyatt Mernka set up the final score late in the 3rd quarter. Cade Higgins found Hayden Stickrod for a 26-yard touchdown with 3:26 left in the 3rd and the Titans were up 40-0. South Central Calhoun chewed up most of the 4th quarter with a 14-play drive that lasted nearly 10:00 minutes due to continuous clock.
Cade Higgins passed for 102-yards and a touchdown for South Central Calhoun. Hayden Stickrod ran for 98-yards and a score, adding a 27-yard touchdown catch and an interception. Cooper Nattress had 73-yard rushing on 12 carries.
Weston Julin was 10-20 passing for 49-yards for East Sac. Gabe King led the defense with 17 tackles, 15 of them solo while Carson Schmitt made 12 tackles and 10 of them were solo.
The Titans are 3-3 overall and 2-1 in Class 1A District 2 while East Sac falls to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 1A District 2. The Titans travel to Manson NW Webster on Friday with 1st place in the district on the line. The Raiders host Pocahontas Area.
