Carroll hosted Bondurant-Farrar for their Pink-Out night on Thursday night. The Tigers came in at 10-15 and sat in the middle of the Racoon River conference.  Bondurant came in at 11-12 and sat in the middle of the conference. The Bluejays had controlled the rivalry, winning the last seven matchups and boasting a 15-5 record since 2009. The Bluejays and Tigers were very competitive in this matchup. The Bluejays took Set 1, 25-21, in what would be their most significant margin of victory. The Tigers were led by a 17-kill night from Amanda Wardell, along with 13 assists from Payton Mohr. The Tigers fell in Set 2, 25-23, as the Bluejays would catch their run late in the set to pull away. It was Deja Vu in Set 3 as the Tigers fell 26-24. Yet again it was a late surge from the Bluejays to pick up the Set and Match win. The Tigers fall to 10-16 on the year with a tournament at Greene County on Saturday as their next stop.

Audubon At AHSTW

Audubon went to Avoca to take on AHSTW in a WIC matchup. Both teams were in very close matchups all night, and both sit in very similar situations on the year. Audubon entered the matchup with a 12-11 record on the season, while AHSTW stood at 7-21. The Vikings would take a late run in Set 1 to win it, 25-23. The Wheelers would bounce back in Set 2 to win it, 25-22. The connection between Harlow Miller and Anna Larsen was strong once again, as Miller had 17 kills and Larsen 24 assists. The Wheelers would fall in Set 3, 25-16 as the most significant margin of victory.  Audubon would bounce back once again in Set 4 as they won 26-24. This would push it to a Set 5 where AHSTW would win 15-10 and win the match. The Wheelers fall to .500 on the year after the loss.

Glidden-Ralston hosted Exira-EHk for a Rolling Valley conference matchup. A big matchup as both teams near the end of the season and have the Rolling Valley tournament to end the season. Glidden-Ralston hosted their senior night after the varsity matchup, where they honored BreAnn Hartwigsen, Kassidy Wenck, and Amelia Garrett. In Set 1, the Wildcats started with the serve and went up 2-0 before the Spartans would tie it up at 3. The Spartans would then go on a 6-0 run before a timeout by the Wildcats. The Spartans would hold control of the rest of Set 1 to win 25-15. In Set 2, the Spartans would start with the serve as Taryn Petersen made her way back to the serve line. Petersen got the first point and then had three straight aces to go up 4-0. The Spartans would dominate the start of Set 2, taking an 8-2 lead. The Wildcats would storm back to make it 12-12 before the Spartans went on yet another run. They would close out Set 2, winning 25-18. In Set 3, it was the closest that both teams had played so far. It was tied at 1, 2, and 8. The Spartans would pull away and make it 13-8 before back to back aces at 13-11 and 13-12 from Kassidy Wenck pulled the Wildcats back within 1. It would stay close until 20-16 where the Spartans would close out the match and win 25-19.

Coon Rapids Bayard earned a sweep on Thursday with Amelia Cook going over 1,000 assists in her career. Paton Churdan battled hard and nearly won the second set, playing some of their best volleyball this season. The Crusaders rolled on sets one and three, winning 25-6 as they hit .360 as a team. Their serve was very strong, finishing with 15 aces on 88.9% serve efficiency. Paton Churdan’s strength was defense as the net. The Rockets ended the night with 9 blocks. The Rockets battled in set two, falling 25-19.

Sophomore Amelia Cook paced the Crusaders with 31 assists, going over 1,000 in her career with the 1,000 coming on a set to Malia Clayburg on the outside. Cook added 9 digs. Malia Clayburg had 25 kills with 9 digs and 3 aces, Anna Hart had 11 digs and 5 aces and Aubrey Hofbauer finished with 11 digs and 4 aces. Ella Heithoff had 7 digs and Maddy Mason added 4 kills.

Chloe Happe had a great defensive night with 6 blocks for Paton Churdan with Edynn Smith playing very well with 4 kills and 5 digs. Mia Russel went for 3 kills and 3 digs and Alivia Smith had 2 kills, 4 digs and 2 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard improves to 17-2 overall and hosts Boyer Valley on Tuesday. Paton Churdan falls to 2-10 and hosts Ar-We-Va next Thursday.

South Central Calhoun nearly had themselves a huge conference win, falling in five sets to Manson NW Webster on Thursday. The Titans came out slow, falling in set one, 25-10 but played well in the next two sets, taking a 2-1 lead. They gained confidence in set three, trailing 24-17, they rallied to win 27-25. They got on a service roll, getting the Cougars out of system, which allowed the Titans hitters to get good swings. The momentum from the third set rally gave them a chance to earn the match win but Manson NW Webster rallied to win the final two sets 25-19 and 15-11.

Sadie Wheelock and Olivia Wiese both had huge nights at the net with Wheelock ending with 19 kills and Wiese with 15 kills. Wheelock added 4 blocks and Wiese had 9 digs along with a pair of aces. Sydney Stuart dished out 34 assists with 7 digs and 2 aces. Macie Dorman contributed 19 digs and Blair Schleisman had 12 digs with Morgan McChesney adding 16 digs and 4 aces.

The loss drops the Titans to 7-19 overall as they are off until next Thursday when they travel to East Sac.

East Sac fell on the road on a night where they struggled to serve and struggled to handle the Rebels serve. Even with those troubles the Raiders had a chance to win, falling by two points in all three set losses. East Sac served 83.3% and made 16 service errors. They had the lead late in sets one, three and four. Twice the Raiders served into the net late, before giving up back-to-back aces to lose. Brooke Burns and Katelyn Schmitt both had 5 aces with Schmitt having a perfect serve efficiency. East Sac kept battling in the back row, keeping a lot of plays and rally’s going. They made 115 digs with Sarah Bontrager having 30 digs and Jordin Carroll added 20 digs to a special night for her. Carroll ended the night with 33 assists, becoming the all-time assists leader for East Sac.

The Raiders swung well, hitting .216 with Miranda Gerdes leading them with 11 kills and Katelyn Schmitt adding 10 kills. Emerson Ludwig and Reese Aschinger both had 8 kills. Jordin Carroll ended her match with 33 assists and 20 digs. Sarah Bontrager made 30 digs with Katelyn Schmitt having 15 digs and Lilly Rodman making 14 digs. Brooke Burns and Katelyn Schmitt both had 5 aces and Miranda Gerdes and Emerson Ludwig each had 3 blocks.

The loss drops the Raiders to 16-13 overall heading into their showdown with South Central Calhoun next Thursday.
