Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Carroll Wins Big District Matchup vs Harlan on Homecoming

Carroll hosted Harlan in their first district matchup of the year. Carroll and Harlan both came in at 1-3 with Carroll losing to Lewis Central in Week 4 and Harlan defeated Denison-Schleswig. Carroll would start with the ball and would go three and out before a penalty on the punt gave them the ball back. They would than get to fourth down again and lined up to punt before a direct snap to Adam Malik would get them into the Harlan side. They would get down to the 11 yard line where Michael Rowedder would punch it in to make it 7-0 in favor of the Tigers. Both teams would go three and out again and Carroll would punt to Harlan where Landon Nihsen would muff the punt and it would be recovered by the Tigers. The special teams is where the Tigers made their money early in this matchup. After the fumbled punt recovery, Camden King would hit Lincoln Burke in stride and he would take it in from 19 yards out for the touchdown to make it 13-0. Harlan would respond on the next drive with a bomb over the top of the Tigers secondary to Cade Nelson for the 54 yard touchdown. The Tigers would fumble on the next drive but would force a turnover to regain the ball. The Tigers would march down the field and punch it in once again from 11 yards out as Adam Malik would get his first touchdown on the night. Harlan would punt on their final drive and the Tigers would fail to score with 47 seconds to go in the half as they would take a 20-7 lead into the locker-room. The Cyclones would receive the 2nd half kick and fumble on their opening play. The Tigers would march down again and have Michael Rowedder punch it in for his second TD and make it 27-7. Harlan would get their revenge as Ayden Redmon would come out of the backfield and get a TD to make it 27-14. Carroll would move the ball slowly and than fumble the next drive away before another TD pass from the Cyclones as they would make it 27-21. The Tigers would punt their next drive away. Defensively Kieran Polking would get an Interception to get the momentum back in favor of the Tigers. This would be the key to their final TD with Michael Rowedder getting his 3rd TD from 3 yards out. Harlan get the ball and take a shot down the field with 2 minutes left  and get a pass interference. Gabe Arkfeld would find Colton Schneider in the back of the endzone to cut the Tiger lead to 5 at 33-28. Carroll would get the onside kick and on the final play with 10 seconds left, Camden King would run around the field and run out the clock for the Tigers to win 33-28. They start disctrict play 1-0 and have Greene County on the road next week.
