East Sac pulled away late to win a game that see-sawed back and forth until the final few minutes. The Raiders scored first but more importantly, they scored last and the defense forced a late turnover to seal the win. East Sac trailed at the end of the 1st quarter but led at half. They fell down in the 4th quarter but a pair of touchdowns, sandwiched around a defensive stop and an interception gave them the lead. Weston Julin and the offense keep making steps forward, finishing 9-12 passing along with the team rushing for 261-yards and four touchdowns.
East Sac marched down the field on the opening drive, scoring on an 8-yard pass from Weston Julin to Zach Jacobsen. They used a 10-play, 72-yard drive to grab a 6-0 lead. Both offenses looked strong early with South Hamilton using a 15-play drive to score on a 3-yard run. The Hawks lead 8-6 with 3:05 left in the 1st quarter. South Hamilton looked to distance themselves going into half, scoring on a 12-play, 66-yard drive to lead 16-6 with 5:41 left in the half. East Sac did a nice job responding quickly as Weston Julin scrambled for a couple long runs, scoring on a 10-yard run to pull the Raiders to 16-14 with 4:23 left in the half. The defense came up big, making a fourth down stop, getting the ball back with enough time for the offense to do something. They went into the hurry up offense, marching 63-yards and scoring on a 4-yard pass from Weston Julin to Carson Schmitt with 0:26 left in the half. East Sac lead 20-16 at half.
The Hawks opened the 2nd half with a explosive play. A 35-yard run put the Hawks up 24-20 with 7:57 left in the 3rd quarter. The game bounced back and forth with East Sac driving down the field, scoring on a 5-yard run by Carson Schmitt, taking a 26-24 lead with 4:47 left in the 3rd quarter. South Hamilton was driving when the 3rd quarter came to an end and scored early yin the 4th quarter on a 5-yard run. They missed the two-point conversion but led 30-26. Zach Jacobsen sparked the Raiders with a big kick return. The run game took over from there with Weston Julin running for 17-yards and Carson Schmitt later in the drive, scoring on a 17-yard run. East Sac led 32-30 with 10:31 left. Things got interesting from here. South Hamilton was driving but the Raiders defense made stop on 4th and 1, getting the ball back to the offense. Gabe King made a crucial play on defense. The offense was unable to get a 1st down, having to punt with 4:33 left. Carson Schmitt made a play, intercepting a Hawks pass, returning it to the South Hamilton 20-yard line. Weston Julin kept it for East Sac, scoring from 20-yards out, pushing the lead to 40-30 with 3:39 left. The defense clinched the win with a sack on 4th down, giving the Raiders their second win of the season.
Weston Julin passed for 85-yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 136-yards on 11-carries, scoring twice. Carson Schmitt had 54-yards rushing, scoring 2 touchdowns. Schmitt added a touchdown catch while making 8.5 tackles. Gabe King had 9 tackles with 8 solo tackles, Kade Snyder ended with 9.5 tackles with 8 solo and Cal McCollough had 7 tackles with all of them solo.
The Raiders improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Class 1A District 2. They head to South Central Calhoun on KIKD 106.7 this Friday.
