Coon Rapids Bayard started fast with a little help from Ar-We-Va as they built an 18-0 lead. The Rockets rallied in the 2nd half with several big plays, tying the game at 50 but Coon Rapids Bayard dug in and scored a pair of touchdowns down the stretch to hold on for a big district win. Both teams had several big plays but turnovers, bad penalties and crucial mistakes made the game sloppy at times.
Ar-We-Va opened the game with the ball and went backwards with a bad snap and two penalties given them 3rd and long. Coon Rapids Bayard took advantage and was able to get the sack in the end zone, going up 2-0. Caden Oswald raced for a 67-yard touchdown and Coon Rapids Bayard led 10-0 minutes into the game. They added another score moments later as Ar-We-Va turned it over and Coon Rapids Bayard was up 18-0. The Rockets scored before the end of the quarter and trailed 18-7. Ethan Bauer had a huge night running the ball, finishing with 415-yards and four touchdowns. He helped the Crusaders build a 32-7 lead in the 2nd quarter but Ar-We-Va gained some momentum going in at half, down 32-15.
The Rockets felt they began to wear down the Crusaders and started getting more explosive plays in the 2nd half. They fought back but also felt they left points on the field. Ar-We-Va had it 1st and goal at the 5 but didn’t score. Ethan Bauer broke off a 79-yard touchdown run after the Crusaders stop and they led 44-29 going to the 4th quarter. Ar-We-Va didn’t back down, tying the game at 50 with Wyatt Ragaller leading the Rockets rally. Ragaller had 169-yards on the ground and scored four rushing touchdowns. He added a kickoff return for a touchdown, scored a receiving touchdown, adding an interception and a fumble recovery. Tucker Lewis led a couple big drives late and Coon Rapids Bayard scored twice, holding on for the win.
Ethan Bauer ran for 415-yards and 4 touchdowns for Coon Rapids Bayard. Caden Oswald had a 67-yard kick return for a touchdown. Tucker Lewis had 2 rushing touchdowns. Griffin Mohr had 7.5 tackles, adding a 44-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Wyatt Ragaller led Ar-We-Va with 169-yards rushing and 4 touchdowns, caught 6 passes for 62-yards, returned a kick for a touchdown. He added an interception and a fumble recovery on defense. Tyson Von Glan had 10 tackles and Devon Ehlers had 11.5 tackles along with running for 55-yards and a touchdown. Grant Wilken went 10-17 for 101-yards with a touchdown pass.
Coon Rapids Bayard moves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in 8-Man District 9. They step out of district at Woodbine on Friday. Ar-W-Va slips to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in 8-Man District 9. The Rockets host Griswold on Friday.
