Iowa Falls Alden At Kuemper- Class 1A Region 7
Kuemper advanced on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Iowa Falls Alden. The Knights earned four wins in singles and clinched the team win with a hard fought win in #1 doubles to end the match. Charlotte Schwabe controlled her opening set in singles against Joslin Johnson, doing a nice job moving Johnson around. Schwabe was in control all set, winning 6-1. Johnson adjusted in set two, forcing Schwabe to chance her game plan, which she did, edging out a 7-5 win. Bella Lu had a battle in singles against Jordyn Carpenter, rallying to win set one 6-4 after trailing early. She fell down early in set two before fighting back to take a lead but lost 6-3, sending it to a tiebreaking third set. Lu started fast with her serve and was never in trouble, winning 10-5, giving Kuemper a 3-0 lead. Regan Garringer put Kuemper up 1-0, cruising in her singles match, winning 6-3. 6-3. Garringer was in control of both sets, controlling the action. Priscila Linares put Kuemper one win away from advancing, winning in singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). She played well in set one but found herself in a battle in set two. Linares stayed calm down the stretch, forcing a couple errors with strong plays to earn the win in two sets, putting Kuemper up 4-2 going into doubles. Charlotte Schwabe and Bella Lu clinched the win for Kuemper with a tough three set win. They fell in set one 6-4 but rallied to win set two 6-3, moving the match into a tie breaker. They squeezed an 11-9 win in the tie breaker to give Kuemper a 5-2 win.
The Knights head to St Edmond on Wednesday for 2nd round action. St Edmond beat Aplington Parkersburg 5-0 to advance.
