It was a late start to the season but the Carroll Girls Swim team opened their season on Thursday at Des Moines and swam well against the Railsplitters. The Tigers had four champions with three coming in individual events and the other in the 200 Free Relay. They added five-2nd place finishes, scoring 84-points. Des Moines Lincoln edged them on the scoreboard with 90-points, giving Carrol a loss in their opener. Lincoln had a meet under their belt last week, giving them a slight advantage against the Tigers. Grace Schoonover had a pair of individual titles, winning the 50 Free in 27.76 and the 100 Free in 1:00.84. She was part of the championship 200 Free Relay team along with Sophia Malone, Brylie Berhens and Ava Hinote. They swam a 1:52.05. Harper Ladwig added the other title for Carroll, winning the 100 Back in 1:08.40. Brylie Behrens had a pair of second place finishes for the Tigers. She swam a 1:22.42 in the 100 Breast and a 1:09.72 in the 100 Fly. Alexis Borkowski took 2nd in the grueling 500 Free, swimming a 6:45.46. Ava Hinote was 2nd in the 50 Free in 27.87 and Harper Ladwig added a 2nd in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:42.18.
Carroll will host Lewis Central on Tuesday.
