East Sac at Pocahontas Area

East Sac traveled to Pocahontas on Thursday evening to take on the Indians. The Twin Lakes conference matchup has been very lopsided in the past as East Sac has won 28 straight matchups vs Pocahontas and only dropped 8 sets in those 28 wins. East Sac came into the matchup 2-3 on the year with a chance to get back to .500 before a tournament this weekend. On the flip side, Pocahontas Area was 0-7 looking to pick up thier first win of the year while at home. In Set One, Pocahontas got the first point early but would give up an 8-0 run to trail 8-1. This momentum would feed the Raiders as they would steal set one 25-10. The Indians would flip this in set two as they jumped out 5-0. Both teams would go back and forth and end up tied 23-23 late. Pocahontas would dig deep and find two points to take set two 25-23. East Sac would battle back in the 3rd as they would have consitent offense to take set three 25-26. The Raiders moved one win closer with the fourth set coming up. The Indians took a 5-1 lead early which prompted a timeout from the Raiders. East Sac would come out firing with 3 straight before the Indians answered. The Raiders kept pushing and took an 8-7 lead. They would keep a steady lead till the end to pick up a 25-21 win and also the 3-1 win on the road.

East Sac bumps up to 3-3 on the year with the Ridge View Classic on Satuday.

Coon Rapids-Bayard was on the road Thursday evening against Earlham. Coon Rapids-Bayard came into the matchup a perfect 6-0 on the season after a triangular win at home and a weekend tournament sweep over the weekend. The Crusaders had a good night once again which started with set one where they would pick up the 25-18 set win. The Veteren Crusaders are loaded with seniors as all but one girl who had played were seniors. This age and experience has shown to be very big in the young season. The Crusaders would win set two 25-21 but their were improvments by the Cardinals to keep it close. CRB would close out the night with a set three 25-16 win. This would be their largest margian of victory as the Crusaders stay perfect on the season.

GTRA and Storm Lake St. Marys at South Central Calhoun

South Central Calhoun hosted a triangular with GTRA and Storm Lake St. Marys on Thursday evening. They would take on GTRA first. South Central Calhoun has been off for a week after suffering a loss to Ridge View to open the season. Both teams came in winless with SCC at 0-1 and GTRA at 0-2. GTRA would come out swinging on the road as they would steal set one 25-18. They would play best 3 of 5 for the triangulars. South Central Calhoun would find their groove in set two as they would pick up a big 25-15 win. It was all downhill from there for GTRA as South Central Calhoun would keep on rollling. South Central Calhoun would win back to back sets 25-13 and pick up the 3-1 win for their first win of the season.

South Central Calhoun came off of the GTRA win with Storm Lake St Marys to close the evening. The Titans were red hot right away as they would roll to a 10 point win in set one 25-15. The Titans sat at 1-1 on the season and looked to go above .500 with this triangular. Second set was the complete opposite with Storm Lake St Marys as they would get a lead and hold it to pick up the 25-18 win in set two. Storm Lake St Marys was also coming off of a win over GTRA to be sitting at 1-0 on the night. Set three turned right back around as the Titans would get a 25-17 win to take a 2-1 win. The Titans would dominate set four and pick up a 25-8 win to sweep the triangular.

Exira-EHK traveled to ACGC for a quad on Thursday afternoon. The Spartans came off of a weekend tournament where they went 0-5. They sat at 3-5 before this matchup. The Wolverine were just ahead of them at 4-7 on the year. The Spartans came out with a chip on their shoulder and picked up set one, 25-20. This momentum was one that would carry the Spartans into set two. The Spartans would flip the table once again as they would take set two 25-11. Thed connection between Zoey Rasmussen and Taryn Petersen was red hot as Rasmussen had 16 assists and Petersen had 9 kills. These two were the main factors for the Spartans first win of the evening.

The Spartans suffered a tough loss in their second match of the quad on Thursday, taking the opening set against West Central Valley before dropping the next two sets. The Spartans started well, getting good swings at the net with Taryn Petersen and Jaelynn Petersen finding the open court on the other side of the net. West Central Valley adjusted well in set two, squeezing past the Spartans 25-20 to send the match into a third set. The Wildcats took the lead early and kept the pressure on the Spartans, pulling away for a 15-6 win. 

Taryn Petersen and Jaelynn Petersen paced Exira-EHK with 9 kills each. Zoey Rasmussen had 16 assists, Bryli Petersen added 4 digs with Jaelynn Petersen adding 4 aces and Taryn Petersen having a team high 2 blocks.

The Spartans battled hard in the first set of their final match of the night, falling short 25-19. The Chargers did a nice job limiting the Spartans looks at the net, forcing Jaelynn Petersen to have to carry the load. She finished with 7 kills out of the team’s 12 kills. The third match and seventh set of the night began to wear down Exira-EHK and ACGC was able to control the set, winning 25-14 to complete the sweep. The Spartans went 1-2 in matches on the night. 

Jaelynn Petersen had 7 kills along with 4 digs, Taryn Petersen finished with 4 kills and 8 digs with Zoey Ramussen adding 10 assists, Brooklyn Brabham had a team high 2 aces.
