Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Volleyball Recaps from Saturday

Volleyball Results Saturday, August 30th 

Carroll and Exira-EHK At Harlan Tournament 

Carroll earned three wins on Saturday, facing Harlan twice and splitting with them. Exira-EHK went 0-5 against teams from the WIC, Hawkeye 10 and Raccoon River Conference. The Spartans fell twice to Underwood, lost to Carroll, St Albert and the host school Harlan. Carroll earned wins over the Spartans, Underwood and Harlan. They dropped matches to Harlan and Missouri Valley. The Tigers were 6-5 in sets, earning a 2-1 win over Underwood, a 2-0 win and a 2-0 loss to Harlan, a 2-0 win over Exira-EHK and a 2-0 loss to Missouri Valley. The Spartans one the first set against Underwood the second time they played but dropped the next two sets, going 1-10 in sets.

Amanda Wardell had a team high 21 kills for Carroll, adding a team leading 4 blocks with 8 digs. Josie Rydl had 49 assists with 10 digs, Kyra Hosenfelt added 14 kills and a pair of aces, Chloe Kock had 10 kills and Macy Simmelink finished with 9 kills and 3 aces. Analia Ayala paced the back row with 31 digs with Aubrie Drake adding 24 digs, Brylee Mrla had 11 digs and 2 aces and Callie Cumming had 14 digs and 2 aces. Bailey Bowman had a team high 4 aces.

Jaelynn Petersen paced the Spartans with 29 kills with Taryn Petersen adding 17 kills. Zoey Rasmussen ended the day with 43 assists. Exira-EHK was balanced in the back row with Jaelynn Petersen leading them with 25 digs, Taryn Petersen had 22 digs, Bryli Petersen 21 digs and Brooklyn Brabham 19 digs. Taryn Petersen had a team high 5 blocks with Brooklynn Snider adding 4 aces.

The Tigers 3-2 and will travel to Winterset on KIKD 106.7 on Tuesday. Exira-EHK sits 2-5 as they head to ACGC on Thursday.

Ar-We-Va and Glidden Ralston At East Sac Tournament 

It was a tough day for the three area schools at the second annual East Sac Tournament on Saturday. East Sac and Glidden Ralston both went 1-2 with the Raiders topping Ar-We-Va in two sets and Glidden Ralston downing Storm Lake St Mary’s in two. Ar-We-Va fell in all three of their matches on Saturday, playing their best against East Sac in their first match of the morning. The Raiders were 4-4 in sets with Glidden Ralston going 2-4 and Ar-We-Va 0-6. Storm Lake topped Woodbury Central 2-0 in one of the semifinals with Lawton Bronson sweeping Siouxland Christian 2-0. Storm Lake earned the Raiders Tournament championship over Lawton Bronson 19-21, 21-19 and 15-11.

East Sac dropped a couple heartbreakers on Saturday. After beating Ar-We-Va in two, them took a 1-0 lead over Siouxland Christian but fell in sets two and three, falling 15-13 in the final set. The Raiders earned a win over Woodbury Central in the opening set but dropped the final two sets, losing 15-12 in set three. Katelyn Schmitt led the Raiders at the net with 24 kills, followed by Emerson Ludwig with 14 kills. Jordin Carroll had 47 assists. Lily Rodman paced the back row with 19 digs with Sarah Bontrager with 15 digs, Tori Hauser adding 13 digs and Katelyn Schmitt finishing with 11 digs. Emerson Ludwig had a team high 6 blocks. Katelyn Schmitt paced the servers with 4 aces with Sarah Bontrager and Tori Hauser both having 3 aces.

Glidden Ralston dropped their first-two matches of the day, dropping a tight second set to Storm Lake and  23-21 second set to Lawton Bronson. They put it together in their final match of the day, taking 3rd in their pool by beating Storm Lake St Mary’s in two sets, winning a close 2nd set 21-17. Kassidy Wenck had a huge day at the net with 29 kills with Allison Snyder adding 16 kills and Makenna Wiederien with 8 kills. Amelia Garrett had a strong setting day with 41 assists. Olivia Squibb paced a balanced back row with 13 digs, Kassidy Wenck had 11 digs, Amelia Garrett 10 digs and Allison Snyder with 9 digs. Kassidy Wenck had a team high 3 blocks and Makenna Wiederien paced the serving with 7 aces, Kassidy Wenck with 3 aces and Olivia Squibb 2 aces.

Ar-We-Va had their best match of the day in their opening match against East Sac, falling 21-16 in the 2nd set. The Rockets battled hard in their second set loss to Siouxland Christian, falling 21-15. Annalee Wittrock had 5 kills, Gabby Hundling 3 kills and Hallie McCollough 2 kills. Addison Bierl dished out 9 assists in her first starts as a freshman setter. Morgan Berg, Mara Obrecht and Vivian Blackford all had a team high 5 digs. Annalee Wittrock paced the Rockets with 3 blocks and 2 aces.

East Sac is 2-3 overall and will head to Pocahontas Area on Tuesday. Glidden Ralston sits 2-2 and will travel to IKM-Manning on Tuesday. Ar-We-Va opens the season 0-3 and will be back in action on Tuesday, September 9th at IKM-Manning for a quad.

Coon Rapids Bayard At Colfax Mingo Tournament 

Coon Rapids Bayard won the Colfax Mingo Tournament on Saturday, not being challenged in most of their matches. They went 8-0 in sets and 4-0 in matches with the closest set being 21-17 in a win over Colfax Mingo. They held their opponents in single digits in three of the eight sets and gave up 11 or under in five of the eight sets. Nodaway Valley gave the Crusaders their toughest test with Coon Rapids Bayard winning 21-12, 21-13.

Malia Clayburg paced the offensive attack with 35 kills with Aubrey Hofbauer 12 kills and Ashtyn Klocke 8 kills. Amelia Cook had a strong day with 47 assists to go with 13 digs. Anna Hart paced the back row with 36 digs with Malia Clayburg and Aubrey Hofbauer both having 14 digs. Aubrey Hofbauer and Malia Clayburg both had 7 aces and Ashtyn Klocke and Anna Hart both having 6 aces.

The Crusaders are 6-0 and will travel to Earlham on Thursday.
