Audubon 64
St. Marys, Remsen 18
Audubon hosted the reigning 8-man state champion in St. Marys, Remsen on Friday night. It was their opening night and a revenge game for the Wheelers as Remsen had eliminated them from the postseason last year. Audubon opened the game on a tear as they would score 3 times to open the game and take a commanding 24-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Hayden Larsen took a handoff into the endzone as the first score of the game. The Wheelers would convert the 2-Point conversion on all 3 opening touchdowns. Remsen had their opening drive stunted as Mason Kasperbauer would recover a fumble and return it for a Wheeler touchdown as the 2nd score of the game. Beau Johnson of Remsen took a handoff from the 6 into the endzone to get the Hawks on the board as they trailed 24-6. Audubon would keep it going in the 1st quarter as they would add another 2 scores and hold the Hawks to just one and take a huge 40-12 lead after the opening quarter. The Wheelers held that control into the rest of the game as they would score 18 in the 2nd and 8 in the 3rd to total up to 64 on the night. Remsen would score once more in the 4th as the Wheelers would pick up the 64-18 win at home to open up their season. Audubon would score touchdowns on all but one drive during the game. 6 offensive and 2 defensive touchdowns from the Wheelers.
The Wheelers would dominate the rush game with 408 rushing yards. They would total just 44 pass yards. The Wheelers open up the season at 1-0 and will travel to Griswold next Friday.
