Regional Softball Recaps for Saturday, July 12th

East Sac At West Fork- Class 2A Region 8

West Fork 8

East Sac 0      (6 Innings)

East Sac played well on Saturday afternoon but weren’t able to get the bats going against Libby Trewin, falling  in the Regional Semifinals. The Raiders offense had two batters reach base and stranded one on base as Trewin struck out 14 hitters. Miranda Gerdes matched her early with 5 strikeouts through the first-nine Warhawk hitters, finishing with seven strikeouts. West Fork never had a big inning but steadily pulling away, using the bunt and aggressive baserunning to keep pressure on the Raiders defense. The pressure wore down a defense that had a few girls playing out of their usual positions as the Raiders finished with four errors.

Libby Trewin struck out two Raiders in a 1, 2, 3 top of the 1st inning and the Warhawks used a hit-by-pitch, a triple and a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead. Both teams went in order in the 2nd inning with Miranda Gerdes striking out a pair of West Fork batters. Gerdes led off the top of the 3rd with a single but the Raiders were unable to take advantage with Reese Aschinger (courtesy runner) stranded at 2nd base. A walk and a back-to-back singles in the bottom of the 3rd led to 2-runs for the Warhawks. Joanna Wallace, who went 3-3 in the game, singled and scored the 2nd run of the inning, giving the Warhawks a 4-0 lead. East Sac went in order in both the 4th and 5th innings with Libby Trewin striking out five batters and getting Lauryn Lally on a fly ball to centerfield. West Fork added a pair of runs in the 4th. Aizley Winfrey singled, followed by back-to-back sac bunt attempts that loaded the bases. Makenna Steiger made a great defensive play on a groundball to 2nd that kept the Raiders out of trouble. She fielded the ball, tagged the runner heading to 2nd and threw out the batter at 1st for a double play. An infield single by Preslee Dickman drove in the second run on a bang-bang play at 1st and the Warhawks led 6-0. Lilly Lode singled for East Sac in the top of the 6th but was picked off 1st and the Raiders went to the bottom of the 6th, down 6-0. West Fork got the first-three batters on base and scored a pair of runs to end the game.

Miranda Gerdes and Lilly Lode both had a base hit for East Sac.

The Raiders ended the season 12-15.
