Ar-We-Va at Glidden-Ralston – Class 1A District 3

Glidden-Ralston hosted Ar-We-Va in Class 1A Round 2 action. Both teams came out of the Rolling Valley with Glidden-Ralston at 14-6 on the year. Ar-We-Va came in 8-9 after a win at CRB in the 1st round. Ar-We-Va batted in the top of the 1st as they would be the away team on the board. Gabbie Hundling would hit a lead off single. She would be batted around by Morgan Berg who would also score as the Rockets would go up 2-0 after the 1st. 3 up and 3 down is how the Wildcats would finish their half of the 1st. Both teams would have offense in the 2nd with the Rockets having 2 on and Glidden loading the bags. Both woud fall scoreless as it was a 2-0 ballgame after 2. The Rockets would fall flat in the 4th. Glidden-Ralston would score their top 5 with 3 reaching on errors, 1 walk and a hit as the Wildcats would take a 5-2 lead after the 3rd. The Wildcats would repeat that in the 4th as they would take a massive 10-2 lead after 4. Ar-We-Va would go 3 and out as the Wildcats would pick up a 10-2 win. The Rockets finish their season at 8-10. Glidden-Ralston will take on Woodbine at Woodbine on Friday.

IKM-Manning faced off with Newell-Fonda in the 2nd round of the playoffs in Class 1A. IKM-Manning would bat 4 girls with one reaching before going scoreless in the top of the 1st. Newell-Fonda would score 2 in the bottom of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead. Both teams would be scoreless in the 2nd. Newell would hold a 2-0 lead after the 2nd. Newell would strike again in the 3rd as they would through 8 and score 5 of the 8 to take a 7-0 lead after 3. The Mustangs would close it out in the 4th with their final 3 runs as IKM-Manning would fall 10-2.

Kuemper faced off with Van Meter in Class 2A playoff softball. Kuemper batted 1st and would have Chloe Gehling and Kaylie Wolterman reach but fail to score in the 1st. Van Meter came in as the defending champions, they proved why tonight. The Bulldogs scored 10 in the bottom of the 1st as they would take a 10-0 lead after 1. Kuemper would have Claire Venner get on and Emma Vonnahme score as she ran for her. Kuemper would trail 10-1 after Van Meter failed to score. Van Meter would close the game in the 3rd with another 2 runs to take a 12-1 win in 4 innings.

Exira-EHK-Audubon knocked off their fourth ranked team in their last five games, winning on the road to advance in Regional play on Wednesday. The Spartans never trailed and held the Trojans scoreless until the 6th inning. The offense was consistent through the middle of the game, getting runners on base in the 3rd through 6th innings, scoring a pair of runs in the 3rd and 5th, building a 4-0 lead. Pleasantville got runners on 2nd base in the 2nd and 3rd innings but weren’t able to score, them left a pair of runners on base in the 3rd and 5th, where they had a runner on 3rd. Riley Miller had big strikeouts to end the 2nd and 3rd innings and induced a popup in the 5th to end the threat.
Bryli Petersen singled to leadoff the 3rd and scored on a single by Taryn Petersen. Petersen scored the second run of the inning on a base hit by Anna Larsen. The Spartans added a pair of runs in the 5th with Abby Wanser doubling with 2-outs and scoring on a single by Lucy Stanerson. Stanerson scored moments later as Zoey Rasmussen singled, putting them up 4-0. Taryn Petersen tripled with 2-outs in the 6th but the Spartans weren’t able to add an insurance run. Pleasantville had stranded runners in nearly every inning, broke through in the 6th. They started the inning with a single and scored on a 2-out double. Riley Miller struck out the next batter to end the threat. They loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th but a pair of fly outs and a strikeout advanced the Spartans into the Regional Semifinals on Friday.
Taryn Petersen had a pair of hits with a triple and an RBI. Zoey Rasmussen had 2 hits and an RBI. Abby Wanser doubled and scored, Anna Larsen had an RBI and Bryle Petersen scored a run with Lucy Stanerson driving in an RBI and scoring a run. Riley Miller went 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and 1 earned run with 11 strikeouts.
The Spartans improved to 15-11 and will host Earlham on KIKD 106.7.

East Sac came up clutch, winning a 10 inning game and getting revenge on a team that beat them 17-1 just over two weeks ago. The Raiders came out sharp on offense and made a few crucial plays on defense to never trail in the game. They led 3-0 after 3 innings, then held the Rebels scoreless over the final five innings after the game was tied in the bottom of the 5th.
The Raiders collected 3-hits in the 1st inning getting a pair of runs. Chloe Bieret had a 1-out single and scored on a single by Makenna Steiger. Steiger moved to 2nd on the throw home and scored on a single by Jordin Carroll. The Raiders added a run in the 3rd with Addisen Ehler singling and moving to 2nd on a walk to Makenna Steiger. Ehler stole 3rd base and scored when the ball went into left field, putting the Raiders up 3-0. Sioux Central earned some momentum in the bottom of the 4th, using a pair of East Sac errors. The Raiders had Sioux Central three bunts that ended up between home and the pitchers circle that turned into a hit and a pair of errors. The second one put two runners on base with 2-outs and both runners scored on a a single by Nichole Hart. The Rebels tied the game in the 5th with Natalie Laursen singling and scoring on a hit to the pitcher. The Raiders caught a break in the 5th as the ground ball that scored Laursen turned into a out at the plate. The throw home to get Laursen was late and ended up against the backstop. Chloe Bieret sprinted back and threw the ball to Miranda Gerdes at home. Gerdes tagged out Kailee Laursen at the plate to end the inning. The Rebels were inches from taking a 4-3 lead but the game stayed tied. Makenna Steiger singled in the 5th for East Sac and was stranded at 3rd but the Raiders struggled to threaten to score until the 8th. Jordin Carroll walked and stole 2nd but was forced out at 3rd on tough defensive play by the Rebels. Sioux Central had a chance to end the game in the 8th with Kailee Laursen reaching 3rd as they loaded the bases with 2 outs. Miranda Gerdes got a big strikeout to end the threat. Makenna Steiger, who was terrific on offense and defense on Wednesday, led off the 10th inning. Lauryn Lally walked and Jordin Carrol singled up the middle to load the bases. Sarah Bontrager and Miranda Gerdes both grounded out to 2nd but scored a run, putting the Raiders up 5-3. Avery Wilson had a 2-out single in the bottom of the 10th but Jordin Carroll fielded a ground ball to 3rd and threw out the runner to end the game.
Miranda Gerdes went 10 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run with 6 strikeouts. Makenna Steiger and Jordin Carroll both had big nights at the plate with both having 3 hits. Steiger had an RBI and scored a run while Carroll drove in an RBI and stole 3 bases. Lilly Lode added a pair of hits and Addisen Ehler, Chloe Bieret and Lauryn Lally all scored a run.
The Raiders improved to 12-14 and head to West Fork on Friday.
