Nodaway Valley At Kuemper- Class 2A Region 1

Myli Schaefer was dominant in the circle for Kuemper, striking out 15 batters in a 5 inning game as the Knights advance to take on Van Meter. The Wolverines had a pair of runners in scoring position in the 1st inning, a runner at 2nd in the 2nd inning but couldn’t score because Myli Schaefer struck out six of the first-nine batters she faced. Nodaway Valley broke through in the 3rd inning, using a leadoff walk and a triple to cut the Knights lead to 2-1. Schaefer settled back in striking out eight of the next nine batters and not letting a runner past 1st base. The Kuemper offense was consistent, scoring in all four innings they batted. Chloe Gehling had a bunt single in the 1st, stole 2nd and 3rd base and scored on a ground out by Charlotte Schwabe. The Knights extended the lead to 2-0 with a run in the 2nd inning. Claire Venner walked and moved into scoring position thanks to a single by Addison Schon. Ellee Schreck grounded out but scored Venner. The offense responded well to Nodaway Valley scoring in the top of the 3rd. Chloe Gehling started the inning with a single and was followed by a single from Morgan Masching, that scored Gehling (who stole 2 bases) and a single from Charlotte Schwabe. Kaylie Wolterman doubled, driving in Masching and Schwabe.  Clair Venner reached on an error. Wolterman scored on a sac fly by Addison Schon and Venner scored on a single from Kyla Wiskus. The 5-run inning pushed the Knights lead to 7-1. Chloe Gehling walked to lead off the 4th and scored on an error and Charlotte Schwabe doubled and scored the game ender on an error.

Myli Schaefer ended the game with 15 strikeouts and 1 earned run on 1 hit in the win. Chloe Gehling had 2 hits with 6 stolen bases and scored 3 runs. Charlotte Schwabe had 2 hits with a double, an RBI and scored 2 runs. Kaylie Wolterman had a double, droving in 3 RBI and scored a run. Addison Schon and Kyla Wiskus both had a base hit and an RBI.

The Knights are 13-19 and head to Van Meter on Wednesday on KCIM.

Ar-We-Va At Coon Rapids Bayard- Class 1A Region 3

It was back and forth until the 4th inning when Ar-We-Va took the lead for good, then pulled away to earn the win. The Rockets got a run in the 1st with Gabby Hundling doubling and moving to 3rd on an error, scoring on an ground ball by Annalee Wittrock. The Crusaders responded in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 3-runs. Jaymee Kracht and Aubrey Hofbauer walked back-to-back and Maddy Mason reached on a fielder’s choice. Amelia Eddy drove in Kracht with a sac fly and Piper Mason drove the ball deep for a double, scoring Hofbauer and Mason. Ar-We-Va bounced back with 3-runs in the 2nd, tying the game when the Rockets loaded the bases with Hallie McCollough getting hit-by-pitch, Jazmine Molina walking and Sarah Melton singling. Emma Leiting walked in a run and Morgan Berg doubled to score Melton and Leiting. Coon Rapids Bayard tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd with Adalynn Spangler walking and scoring on a double by Emily Booth. Ar-We-Va took the lead for good in the 4th, sending ten batters to the plate. Gabby Hundling and Emma Leiting led off and were both hit-by-pitch. Annalee Wittrock walked to load the bases. Amber Ragaller walked in a run, Hallie McCollough was hit-by-pitch and Jazmine Molina had an RBI walk. The Rockets were up 8-4 and got back up quickly, getting Coon Rapids Bayard in order in the bottom of the 4th. Ar-We-Va added 4-runs in the 5th, getting a 2 RBI double from Jazmine Molina along with three walks or hit-by-pitch. Aubrey Hofbauer reached on an error, stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a ground ball by Amelia Eddy to keep the Crusaders in the game. Gabby Hundling returned the favor to start the 6th, reaching on an error and scoring on an error. The Rockets held off the Crusaders in the bottom of the 6th to end the game.

Gabby Hundling had a double and scored 3-runs, Emma Leiting added 3 run scored and Morgan Berg doubled with 2 RBI for Ar-We-Va. Jazmine Molina had a double and drove in 3 RBI, Amber Ragaller scored a pair of runs.

Emily Booth had a pair of hits with a double for Coon Rapids Bayard. Amelia Eddy and Piper Mason both had 2 RBI, Aubrey Hofbauer scored a pair of runs.

Ar-We-Va moves to 8-9 and will head to Glidden Ralston on 93.7 KKRL on Wednesday. Coon Rapids Bayard finishes the season 1-19.

IKM-Manning hosted River Valley in the Class 1A, Region 3 first round matchup. Both teams faced off last Monday with River Valley getting the better of the Wolves. Keagan Eischeid was in the circle for the Wolves as they looked to pick up a postseason win. The winner would be awaited by Newell-Fonda on Wednesday. It was a slow first two innings as each team did not score. River Valley had runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 1st. They would have a runner at 3rd in the 2nd as well. The Wolverines would get their 1st run in the top of the 3rd as they would lead 1-0 after the top of the 3rd. Annabelle Blum would lead off for the Wolves in the 3rd. They would bat through 10 and score 6 of the 10. They would bunt very often in the 3rd as the Wolverines struggled with base runners in the inning. IKMM would lead 6-1 after 3. Both teams would get 1 in the 4th as Anna Stangl would score her lone run of the night for the Wolves. IKMM would have Laura McCarville and Kamryn Ketchum reach and score for the Wolves to take a 9-2 lead after 4. Alikxa McGinn would hit a lead off double in the 5th as she was about 2 feet off of a walk off home run. She would be batted around by an RBI single from Macy Rasmussen to win it 10-2 in 5 Innings.

South Central Calhoun played their best game of the season in the opening round of  the postseason. The Titans finished with 4-hits and scoring a pair of runs in the 2nd inning to trail 3-2 going into the bottom of the 2nd. Morgan McChesney doubled and scored in the 2nd and Shannon Melody was hit-by-pitch and scored. Both of them had a hit in the game as did Riley Jacobs and Mikelle Heinrichs. The Titans defense played well, and Kaylee Boogerd allowed only 7 hits. The Warriors scored 3-runs in the 1st inning but never scored more than 2-runs in any other inning, getting 2-runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. They added the game ending run in the bottom of the 4th.

South Central Calhoun finished the season 0-20.

Regular Season Softball

Carroll at ADM

Carroll and ADM faced off on Monday evening. The rest of our softball programs were in the postseason while Carroll had 2 games including Monday evening left. Carroll started Kyra Hosenfelt on the mound against another Racoon River opponent. Hosenfelt led off in the 1st as she would get a hit and come around for the only run the Tigers would hit. It was a more stable offensive and defensive game for the Tigers. They would reach bags more and it was a closer game on the defensive end. ADM would fight back in the bottom of the 1st as they added 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead after 1. Both teams would go scoreless in the 2nd. ADM would score in all but the 2nd inning. ADM would add 2 in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th as they would go up 6-1 after 4 innings. ADM would bat 5 in the 5th and score 4 to take a 10-1 victory at home.

East Sac hosted Manson NW Webster in their final regular season game of the season. It was the Raiders highly anticipated pinkout night. Both teams started the game out slowly. Manson went 3 up and 3 down while East Sac had Addisen Ehler reach before 3 outs followed her. The Raiders would get another 4 batters in the 2nd but no runs. Manson would once again go 3 up and 3 down. Manson would find their runs in the top of the 4th with 2 runs and only 1 hit. They would take a 2-0 lead after the top of the 4th. East Sac would battle back with their offensive inning as Lauryn Lally would hit a single and be brought in two at bats later by Miranda Gerdes. The Raiders would add another run from Jordin Carroll in the 6th as they tied it up 2-2 after 6 innings. Manson would have a rally in the 7th and score twice as they led 4-2 with half an inning to go. Lilly Lode would lead off and score with Addisen Ehler doing the game to follow her. The Raiders would tie it up to go into an 8th inning. Manson’s lead off runner would score as the Raiders fell short in the bottom of the 8th. Manson would pick up a 5-4 win in extra innings. Miranda Gerdes struck out 8 batters and with that she broke the single season strikeout record for East Sac. She came into the game needing one strikeout as the record was 143 and she had 142. Gerdes ended the regular season with 150 strikeouts.
