IKM-Manning Vs Newell Fonda At CAM- Class 1A District 15

Newell Fonda 6

IKM-Manning 5

IKM-Manning lost a heartbreaker to end the season on Saturday, leading the game into the bottom of the 6th before falling by one run to Newell Fonda in the opening round of the postseason. The Wolves kept the Mustangs offense in-check while slowly building what appeared to be a comfortable lead. The game began to change a little in the 4th as the Mustangs scored an unearned run but left the bases loaded as Brock Kusel got a huge strikeout to end the threat. Newell Fonda hadn’t really had much success getting more than one runner on base through the first-three innings as Kusel had struck out four batters and given up two hits. The IKM-Manning offense was productive, scoring at least a run in four of the first-five innings. They left a runner on 3rd in the 5th and only had one baserunner over the final two innings.

Kasche Huehn singled and scored to leadoff the game. He stole 2nd base and scored on a double by Brock Kusel. Kusel moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly by Karsyn Lorenzen. The Wolves lead was trimmed to 2-1 in the bottom of the 1st as Andrew Greenfield singles and stole 2nd and 3rd before scoring on an error. IKM-Manning answered in the 2nd with Abe Polzien getting hit-by-pitch and scoring on a single by Logan Halbur. The Wolves pushed the lead to 4-1  in the 4th with Abe Polzien walking, moving to 2nd on a wild pitch and scoring on another single by Logan Halbur. Newell Fonda used a pair Wolves errors in the bottom 4th to pull within 4-2. The rally started with 2-outs and they left the bases loaded. The Wolves did a nice job responding in the top of the 5th. Brock Kusel leadoff with his second-double and scored on an throwing error later in the inning. The Wolves stranded two Mustangs on base in the 5th and took a 5-2 lead into the 6th. Kasche Huehn singled with 2-outs but couldn’t score and Newell Fonda came up  in the bottom of the 6th, down 5-2. A hit-by-pitch got the Mustangs off to a good start but the Wolves got an out before a pair of singles in a row, scored a pair of runs to cut the lead to 5-4. A Hit-by-pitch set up Newell Fonda with the lead runner moving to 2nd base. A single gave them the lead at 6-5 and IKM-Manning brought in Karsyn Lorenzen to get out of the inning. The Wolves went down in order in the 7th and Newell Fonda escaped with a come from behind win.

Brock Kusel and Kasche Huehn both had 3 hits with Kusel doubling twice, driving in a run and scoring a pair of runs. Huehn score a run and drove in a run. Logan Halbur had their other 2 hits, adding 2 RBI. Brock Kusel took the loss, going 6 innings with 7 hits and 4 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.
