Bryli Petersen hit a grand slam home run in the 1st inning and Exira-EHK-Audubon never trailed, topping the host Tigers 9-5. The Spartans never trailed but the offense struggled after the big 1st inning, until they scored 4 insurance runs in the 7th inning to lead 9-3 going into the bottom of the 7th. Griswold shut down the Spartans offense most of the game but couldn’t get their offense going against Taryn Petersen and Riley Miller in the circle or the Spartan defense, which had a strong game.
The Spartans nearly didn’t score in the 1st inning after Anna Larsen was hit-by-pitch with 1-out and Taryn Petersen walked. They hit into back-to-back fielder’s choices with Larsen being forced out at home. Bryli Petersen stepped in with the bases loaded and 2-outs and drilled a 3-2 pitch over the right-center field fence for a grand slam home run, putting the Spartans up 4-0. Lucy Stanerson reached on an error, stole 2nd base and Zoey Rasmussen singled to score Stanerson. Griswold threatened in the 2nd inning but didn’t score until the 3rd. A leadoff home run cut the Spartans lead to 5-1. The Spartans offense had a baserunner in both the 3rd and 4th but couldn’t advance them past 1st base. Griswold took advantage in the 4th, leading off with a single. A double a batter later cut the Spartan lead to 5-2 and a wild pitch made it a 5-3 game. Riley Miller entered the game in the circle for Exira-EHK-Audubon and shut down the Tigers in the 5th and 6th. The Spartans had baserunners in the 5th and 6th but a line drive double play ended their threat in the 6th and they stranded two players on base in the 5th. A Tiger error of the bat of Taryn Petersen to lead off the 7th got the Spartans rolling. Riley Miller singled, driving in a hustling Petersen. Abby Wanser walked and Bryli Petersen singled. Liv Inman, who was running for Miller and Wanser scored on a a single by Zoey Rasmussen and Petersen scored on a sac bunt from Payton Gust. The Spartans led 9-3 going into the bottom 7th. The Tigers had a pair of doubles and a single pushed a pair of runs across the plate but Riley Miller struck out a batter to end the game. Her fifth strikeout of the game.
Bryli Petersen had a pair of hits with a grand slam home run, finishing with 4 RBI and scoring twice. Zoey Rasmussen had 3 hits with 3 RBI. Abby Wanser scored twice, adding a base hit. Taryn Petersen earned the win, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Riley Miller went 3 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.

The Spartans struggled in the second game of the day, having around 30 minutes off between game on a hot and windy day. They showed signs of being tired physically and mentally, struggling on offense and defense, allowing six unearned runs on six errors while the offense collected four hits. Shenandoah took advantage of the Spartans struggles, scoring a pair of runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings and taking control of the game with three runs in the top 4th to lead 7-0.
A 2-out walk and a pair of singles helped Shenandoah score 2-runs in the 2nd inning, giving them the early lead. They added a pair of unearned runs in the 3rd with the Spartans making an error on the first-two batters. The lead grew to 7-0 in the 3rd with the Spartans making back-to-back errors with 1-out. Exira-EHK-Audubon made a push in the bottom 4th with Taryn Petersen singling and Riley Miller moving her to 3rd with a single. Taryn Petersen scored and Maya King scored on a single by Lucy Stanerson, cutting the deficit to 7-2. The Spartans only had one baserunner the rest of the game.
