Kuemper At Clarinda- Varsity Doubleheader

Game 1

Kuemper had the bats going in game 1, collecting 11 hits and scoring 16-runs. The Knights scored in every inning including sending ten batters to the plate in the 3rd, blowing the game open with 7-runs. They took control early with a 4-run 1st inning and never trailed, adding two more in the 2nd. Clarinda tried to fight back, scoring 3-runs in the bottom 5th but Mason Knerl earned a strikeout on the hill to end the game with a runner on 2nd base.

Aaron McDermott singled score Mason Knerl in the 1st inning after Tristan Janson scored on an error. Charles Mayhall rocked a 2-run home run, giving the Knights a 4-0 lead. Clarinda scored a run in the bottom 1st but the Knights answered. Aaron McDermott doubled with 2-outs, scoring Ryan Sundrup and Thomas Pottebaum. After shutting Clarinda down in the bottom 2nd, Kuemper blew the game open in the 3rd. Tristan Janson tripled with 2-outs, driving in Caden Vonnahme, Ryan Sundrup and Thomas Pottebaum. Mason Knerl singled to score Janson and Landon Pottebaum doubled, driving in Mason Knerl and Aaron McDermott. Pottebaum added an RBI single in the 5th, stretching the Knights lead to 16-3. Clarinda scored three in the bottom 5th but the Knights ended the threat to earn the 16-6 win in 5 inings.

Aaron McDermott had 3 hits with a double, 4 RBI and 2 RS, Charles Mayhall had a double and a 2-run home run, adding 3 runs scored. Tristan Janson had a pair of hits with a triple, 3 RBI and scored 3 times. Landon Pottbaum had a pair of hits, a double, driving in 3 runs. Griffin Bauer scored 3 times.

Kuemper scored in the 1st inning but Clarinda took control of the  game early, scoring 7-runs in the 1st inning. The Knights defense struggled, making three errors in the 1st inning helping the Cardinals score 7-runs. Kuemper struggled at the plate, after collecting 11 hits in the 1st game they were held to 3 hits in the nightcap. They had two guys on base in two innings but only scored once in that situation.

Landon Pottebaum singled to score Mason Knerl who had walked. Griffin Bauer reached on an error and scored later in the 3rd on another Cardinal error, pulling the Knights within 9-2. Clarinda added a pair of runs in the 4th, then scored with a 2-out single followed by a double in the bottom 5th ending the game.

Tristan Janson, Landon Pottebaum and Ryan Sundrup all singled for the Knights with Landon Pottebaum picking up an RBI. Mason Knerl and Griffin Bauer scored their runs.

The Knights sit 5-3 overall as they host Harlan on Tuesday.

Ballard got the bats going over the final three innings, opening up what had been a really close and well played game. The Tigers led 2-1 going into the 5th before Ballard scored 4-runs in the 5th, 6-runs in the 6th and 5 more runs in the 7th.

Jackson Gross led the Tigers with a pair of hits and scored twice. Trey Tassell had a double and drove in a run, Landon Petersen had a hit and scored a run, Stone Sibenaller had a base hit and drove in a run. Chase Schable added a base hit.

Carter Essick hit a pair of doubles, driving in Stone Sibenaller as Carroll took a 2-1 lead after the 1st inning. Much like the opening game it was tight until late when Ballard starting to adjust to the Tigers pitching and put the bat on the ball. The Bombers scored 4-runs in the 4th, taking a 5-2. They added 3-runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th to separate from the Tigers. Carroll added a run in the 5th as the Tigers had three-doubles.

Carter Essick had 3 hits with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Trey Tassell had a double and drove in a run and Stone Sibenaller had a double and scored a run. Jackson Gross added an RBI and Landon Petersen and Tallon Crandall both scored a run.

The Tigers fall to 3-3 overall and will head to Greene County on Tuesday.

Cal Heydon was dominant on the hill on Monday, striking out 16 Tigers hitters, helping the Crusaders earn a huge early win in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders didn’t have their first baserunner until the 4th inning, stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd. They looked in jeopardy of stranding a guy at 3rd in the 5th but Cal Heydon came up clutch with an RBI single, scoring Jace Baker. Heydon controlled the Tigers lineup only allowing one baserunner through three innings, that coming on a Crusader error. He fanned the first six batters he faced and eight of the first-nine batters. Heydon had two strikeouts or more in every inning until the 7th. The Crusaders added an insurance run in the 6th with Caden Oswald laying down a suicide squeeze, scoring Parker Hays.

Neither team looked comfortable at the plate early with neither team getting on base until the 3rd and 4th innings against Carter Gruver for Woodbine and Cal Heydon for Coon Rapids Bayard. Woodbine nearly struck first, Gunner Wagner reached on a Crusader error, then stole 2nd and moved to 3rd. The ball slipped away from Tyler Mohr at 3rd but he recovered and threw out Wagner who tried to score. The game stayed scoreless until the 5th. Jace Baker led off the inning getting hit-by-pitch. He stole 2nd and took 3rd as nobody covered the bag and the throw went into centerfield. Cal Heydon drove a 3-2 pitch into right field, scoring Baker. Woodbine had two runners reach base in the 5th but stranded a runner at 2nd. The Tiges left a runner on 2nd base in the 6th and Coon Rapids Bayard was able to take advantage. Parker Hays singled and moved to 2nd on an error. Tyler Mohr bunted him to 3rd and Caden Oswald bunted him home with a suicide squeeze. Cal Heydon made that stick, inducing a ground ball to 2nd base to start the 7th. He earned his 16th strikeout of the game for the 2nd out and then induced  ground ball up the middle to Caden Oswald at shortstop to end the game.

Cal Heyon struck out 16 batters, allowing 1 hit, earing the win. He was 1-2 with an RBI while Parker Hays was 1-2 with a run scored. Jace Baker scored a run and Caden Oswald had an RBI.

The Crusaders move to 5-0 and will host East Sac on Tuesday.

Glidden Ralston struggled on the hill for the first time since their season opener, giving up 11 hits and 13-runs to Newell Fonda, falling in five innings. The Wildcats bats struggled to get going, collecting 2 hits, helping them score 3-runs. They showed nice patience at the plate, walking 8 times. Newell Fonda took charge in the 2nd, scoring 4-runs to take a 8-3 lead. They shut Glidden Ralston out the rest of the game, scoring a pair of runs in the 3rd and 3-runs in the 4th to take a 13-3 lead.

Jonathan Bergmeier had a base hit and scored twice. Daniel Thooft had a base hit and an RBI, Landon Rohrbeck and Greyon Renze both had an RBI and Blayce Nelson scored a run.

The Wildcats fall to 2-3 and will  host CAM on Wednesday.

Ar-We-Va At East Sac

East Sac had to rally late twice to earn a hard fought win at home as Ar-We-Va played really well, building a 7-2 lead through three innings in their season opener. The Raiders scored 3-runs in the bottom 5th, pulling within 7-6. They tied the game in the bottom 7th, sending the game into extra innings. Ar-We-Va responded, scoring 4-runs in the top 8th but East Sac rallied with a 5-run bottom 8th to win it on a 2 RBI double by Ryan Petersen.

East Sac benefited from a pair of errors to start the bottom 8th, loading the bases with no outs. A single scored the first run of the inning but they kept it rolling get another single to score two more runs. A third error for Ar-We-Va in the inning, moved runners to 2nd and 3rd with the Raiders down 11-10. A walk loaded the bases and Ryan Peterson came to the plate and drove in a pair or runs to win it.

Landon Sporrer, Tucker Grossley, Cael Roth and Ryan Peterson all had 3 hits for East Sac with Petersen doubling twice, driving in 3 runs. Sporrer had a double, 2 RBI and scored twice, Roth doubled, tripled, drove in 2 RBI and scored twice and Grossley added a double with 2 RBI. Becken Kluver scored a pair of runs.

Wyatt Ragaller and Johnathan Riesselman both had two hits for the Rockets. Riesselman scored twice and Ragaller added a pair of runs scored. Devon Ehlers had a double, Blayne Smith scored 3 runs and Grant Wilken added a base hit and scored. East Sac moves to 2-3 overall and will head to Coon Rapids Bayard on Tuesday. Ar-We-Va opens the season 0-1 and will travel to Woodbine on Wednesday.

Audubon struggled on defense, making eight errors, helping Riverside pull away for a 12-2 win in 5 innings. Brody Schultes had a strong game at the plate for the Wheelers, doubling and tripling. He had two of the teams five hits.

The game started well for the Wheelers with Brody  Schultes tripling with 1-out. He scored on a single by  Carson Wessel, putting the Wheelers up 1-0. Riverside responded with a pair of runs in the 1st and 2nd inning, helped out by a pair of miscues by the Wheelers defense. The Bulldogs didn’t let up scoring 3-runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, pushing their lead to 10-1. Brody Schultes walked for the Wheelers in the 5th, move to 2nd and stole 3rd before scoring on a Bulldog error. Riverside ended the game with a pair of runs in bottom 5th.

Brody Schultes had a double, tripling and scored twice for the Wheelers. Carson Wessel had an RBI and Gabe Jensen and Adam Obrecht both had a base hit.

The Wheelers fall to 1-5 and will host LoMa on Tuesday.

Brock Kusel scored in the 1st inning for IKM-Manning but they didn’t score again until the 4th and Missouri Valley was able to build a 7-2 lead by the end of the 4th. Neither team scored over the final three innings, giving the Big Red their first win of the season. Jace Starman walked and Wyatt Lupardus scored for the Wolves second run.

Kasche Huehn, Isaac Blankman, Brock Kusel, Jace Starman and Brandon Enebech all had a hit with Enebech doubling. Jace Starman had an RBI and Luke Doyle and Wyatt Lupardus scored a run.

The Wolves fall to 2-4 and will host Treynor on Tuesday.
