Coon Rapids-Bayard and East Sac faced off in a battle of two of our area schools on Thursday. CRB got the first score of the game as Anna hart hit a single than stole second and was drove in by Maddy Mason to go up 1-0.  East Sac scored early also  as Addison Eheler and Sarah Bontrager scored in the 1st inning to go up 2-1. In the 2nd inning both teams had runners get on but both left them stranded to have a scoreless 2nd. The 3rd inning was a big one. CRB tied it with Anna Hart scoring her 2nd run for the Crusaders off of errors. She was the lone score of the 3rd for CRB. East Sac caught fire as 7 of their 10 runs came in the 3rd. Each run was scored by a separate batter. They would get up 7-2 to close the 3rd. East Sac would have other chances but would not score again until the 5th with Lilly Lode being driven in by Addison Eheler.

The Raiders would win 10-2 and improve to 2-0 with wins over CRB and Manson NW Webster. They will host West Bend Mallard on Friday. CRB falls to 0-2 to start the year with losses to East Sac and Madird. The Crusaders will face Woodbine on Monday.

Kuemper at Lewis Central

Kuemper traveled to Lewis Central and played at Iowa Western on Thursday. The Knights opened the season well as they came into tonight at 2-1 with one loss to IKM-Manning. The Knights opened the game with Chloe Gehling getting on base with a single. Addison Schon drove her in with a double and the Knights led 1-0. Lewis Central countered back with their top two hitters scoring to take the lead 2-1 going into the 2nd. Kuemper went 0-3 in the 2nd. Lewis Central scored 4 more in the 2nd and this is where they got rolling. Lewis Central than ran away with it in the 3rd as they score 6 runs to cap off a big 3rd inning. Kuemper scored two more as Addison Schon and Kaylie Wolterman scored for the Knights. This is the last of the scoring for the Knights. Lewis Central scored one more in the 4th to close out this game and win 13-3.

Kuemper falls to 2-2 and will play in the Ogden Tournament on Saturday.

South Central Calhoun hosted Southeast Valley on Thursday. Southeast valley started slow as they score 2 runs in the 1st inning. South Central Calhoun’s lone run came in the 2nd inning as they trailed 2-1. The 2nd inning is where Southeast Valley caught fire as they scored 15 runs to go up 17-1 and take a commanding lead. From then on it was all Southeast Valley as they scored 1 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th to close out a 22-1 win on the road.

South Central Calhoun drops to 0-3 and will host Pocahantas Area on Friday.

Exira EHK – Audubon went to Avoca to take on AHSTW on Thursday. Anna Larsen led things off in the 1st as she was hit by a pitch and got on. She would score after an RBI double from Riley Miller. The Spartans than held strong and scored again in the 3rd as Riley Miller was drove in off an RBI single from Alissa Testroet. The last score came in the 6th as Alissa Testroet scored her own run. The Spartans pick up an impressive win on the road to keep their strong start.

Carroll hosted Nevada in softball action on Thursday. Nevada started off hot with a 5-2 lead after the 1st inning. They would keep it up as they would score 2 in the 2nd as well. Carroll kept a consistant pace throughout the game as they managed 7 runs with 3 in the first 2 innings. Both teams were able to manage to score in each inning but the lead grew too much for the Tigers as they fell 15-7 in 5 innings.
