Winterset At Carroll

Winterset 13

Carroll 0     (4 Innings)

Carroll played better than the final score indicated but Winterset kept putting pressure on them and took advantages of the couple mistakes the Tigers made to earn a 4 inning win. The Tigers defense showed some really strong flashes with Cayla Cummings making a pair of great plays at 3rd base, Tahlia Hahn having an outstanding grab in shallow centerfield, Kyra Hosenfelt showing good range in centerfield and Brylee Mrla showing athleticism at shortstop. Winterset scored three runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings but put the game away with a seven run 4th inning.

Winterset threatened in the 1st inning, putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Carroll got a force out at 3rd on a bloop into shallow centerfield for the 1st out. Cayla Cummings made back-to-back great plays on the next two batters, fielding the grounder and beating to runner to 3rd base for the force out. That ended the Huskies threat. Brylee Mrla singled to start the bottom of the 1st but Carroll wasn’t able to advance her. They wouldn’t get another baserunner until Tahlia Hahn walked in the bottom of the 4th. Winterset got the first-two batters on base in the 2nd inning, followed by a pair of singles to score three runs. They added a 2-run home run by Izabelle Taylor in the 3rd, taking a 6-0 lead. The Huskies got base hits from their first-five batters in the 4th. A Carroll throwing error sparked the inning and Winterset finished the inning with seven runs to lead 13-0.

Brylee Mrla had a base hit for Carroll and Tahlia Hahn walked for the Tigers other baserunner.

Carroll falls to 0-1 and will host Nevada on Thursday.
