Shenandoah At Kuemper- Varsity Doubleheader

Mason Knerl was fantastic in the opener of the doubleheader, giving the Knights exactly what they needed with a long outing, saving their arms for the second game. He held Shenandoah to 6 hits and didn’t allow them to score until the 3rd inning. His offense gave him an early lead, scoring a run in the 1st and 2nd inning. They pulled away late, scoring four runs over the final two innings.

Tristan Janson had a strong game at the plate and opened the bottom 1st getting hit-by-pitch. He scored on a sac fly by Landon Pottebaum, putting the Knights up 1-0 in the 1st. A leadoff single in the 2nd by Caden Vonnahme helped Kuemper push in a second run of the game. Tristan Janson singled home Vonnahme on a 2-out single. Shenandoah strung a pair of hits together in the 3rd, pulling within 2-1 but Knerl remained in control , allowing only 1 hit the last four innings. Shenandoah had three singles in the 2nd inning but had a runner thrown out at 2nd base. A leadoff walk by Tristan Janson in the 5th helped the Knights get on the board and get some cushion. Mason Knerl reached on an error and Aaron McDermott drove in Janson with a groundout. A Mustang error led to the Knights second run in the inning. Ryan Sundrup singled with 1-out in the 6th, Tristan Janson got on base again with a walk and both scored on a single by Aaron McDermott.

Mason Knerl earned the win, throwing 7 innings, allowing 6 hits with 1 earned run while striking out 10. Ryan Sundrup had a pair of hits and Aaron McDermott had three RBI with Tristan Janson scoring 3 runs.

Kuemper had to respond early in game 2 after falling behind and did in a big way, blowing the game open in the 1st inning. The Mustangs scored a pair of runs in the top 1st but the Knights battled twelve players in the bottom 1st, scoring 8-runs. They put the game away with 4-runs in the 3rd. Tristan Janson was strong on the hill, not allowing a hit after giving up three in the top of the 1st. He struck out 5, allowing only one earned run.

Shenandoah scored a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, getting thee singles and a Kuemper error. They had two runners get on base in the 4th and two more in the 5th, advancing a runner to 3rd in the 5th but they weren’t able to score. Kuemper had four singles in the bottom 1st along with an Shenandoah error and two hit-by-pitches, helping them score 8-runs. Mason Knerl, Landon Pottebaum and Caden Vonnahme all had an RBI single with Noah Reiman adding an RBI groundout and Thomas Pottebaum driving in a pair of runs. A Mustang error in the 3rd helped Kuemper score a pair of runs, leading to a 4-run inning to put the game out of reach.

Tristan Janson earned the win, going 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts. Aaron McDermott and Landon Pottebaum both had 2 hits and scored twice with McDermott doubling and driving in a pair of runs. Thomas Pottebaum drove in a pair of runs and scored a pair of runs. Noah Reiman added a pair of RBI.

The Knights improved to 3-1 overall and will head to Lewis Central on on KIKD on Thursday.

East Sac fell on the road to a strong Woodbine team on Tuesday as the offense put the ball in play but weren’t able to string hits together. The Raiders finished with 8 hits, but scored just 1-run in the 9-1 loss. Woodbine slowly separated themselves on the scoreboard, scoring a pair of runs in the 2nd inning to grab an early lead. They added 3-runs in both the 4th and 6th innings to pull away.

Tucker Grossley paced the Raiders offense with a pair of hits and an RBI. Evin Wolff had a hit as did Caleb Roth, Carter Erritt, Jack Gullett, Beckem Kluver and Lanson Sporrer. Jordan Ulmer scored their run Cael Roth walked twice. Carter Erritt threw 4 innings, allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs.

The Raiders slip to 0-3 and will head to Manson NW Webster on Friday.

Glidden Ralston earned a hard fought win against South Central Calhoun on Tuesday. The Wildcats collected 8 hits while holding the Titans to 5 hits. They started quick with 3-runs in the 1st inning, then responded with a pair of runs after South Central Calhoun scored 3-runs in the 3rd and 4th innings combined. Jonathan Bergmeier and Alex Daniel combined to allow five hits and 2 earned runs. The Titans tied the game in the top of the 4th, having scored a run in the 3rd and two more in the 4th but they weren’t able to push another run across the plate the rest of the game. Glidden Ralston responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 4th, adding another run in the 5th to earn a 6-3 win.

Jonathan Bergmeier went 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs and strike out 4. Bergmeier added 2 hits, with a double, scoring twice. Collin Sturm had a pair of hits, driving in a run, Waylon Hein doubled and scored while Daniel Thooft had an RBI and scored once. Alex Daniel added 2 innings pitched, allowing 1 hit while striking out 2.

Charlie Nattress led the Titans with 2 hits with Aidan Albright having a double and a pair of RBI. Andrew Anderson had a base hit and scored a run with Cooper Nattress adding a base hit.

The Wildcats moved to 1-1 overall and will host West Central Valley on Thursday. South Central Calhoun falls to 1-2 and will host West Bend Mallard on Wednesday.

IKM-Manning had seven of their first-eight hitters get on base in the 1st inning, helping them score 4-runs on their way to a 7-0 win over Audubon. The Wheelers tried to battle back late, getting a guy on base in the 6th and two on base in the 7th but they weren’t able to stretch any hits together against Brock Kusel, who was terrific for the Wolves. The Wolves took advantage of seven free passes, scoring 4-runs in the 1st inning, then adding 3-runs in the bottom 6th.

Karsyn Lorenzen doubled to score a pair of runs in the 1st, giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Three straight walks scored two more runs and the Wolves led 4-0. The game remained that way into the 6th inning. Niether offense did much in the middle part of the game. Audubon had three baserunners with a single and two walks. The Wolves had two guys reach base from the 2nd to the 5th inning, getting a single in the 5th and walk in the 2nd inning. They struck gold in the 6th, using a leadoff single, a sac bunt, a single and a walk to set up the 3-run inning. A pair of Wheeler errors led to the last two runs, putting the Wolves up 7-0.

Brock Kusel pitched 6 1/3 innings for IKM-Manning, allowing 1 hit with 11 strikeouts. Karsyn Lorenzen had a double, drove in a pair of runs and scored a run. Kasche Huehn had a pair of hits with an RBI and scored twice, Abe Polzien scored  a run and Jace Starman picked up a base hit.

Hayden Larsen had both of the Wheelers hits. Carson Wessel pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 earned runs while striking out 8.

The Wolves improved to 2-1 and will head to Underwood on Thursday. Audubon falls to 1-1 and will host Underwood on Wednesday.
