East Sac advanced in the opening round of Regional play on Monday, topping West Sioux 2-1 with Addisen Ehler scoring what turned into the game winner from about midfield late in the game. The Raiders controlled the 2nd half, taking 8 shots on goal before Ehler broke through. Their defense as fantastic all game long, holding West Sioux to 1 shot in the 2nd half.
The Raiders came out quick, scoring their first goal almost immediately. Chloe Bieret put the Raiders up 1-0 three minutes into the game. Both defenses controlled most of the 1st half, limiting the offenses opportunities. The Falcons were able to break through and tie the game with a goal at 28:46 left in the 1st half. The game remained tied into the 2nd half before Addisen Ehler kicked the ball from the 40-yard line and scored with 13:40 remaining. The offense had gained some traction in the 2nd half, putting pressure on the Falcon’s goalie. They helped set the tempo in which East Sac used that energy to earn the win. The defense held firm the rest of the game.
Chloe Bieret and Addisen Ehler both had a goal for the Raiders with Bieret taking 3 shots on goal and Sarah Bontrager leading them with 4 shots on goal. The Raiders had seven different players take at least one shot on goal with Jordin Carroll and Makynli Hunziker both having 2 shots and Ehler making the most of her 1 shot on goal. Denae Thayer was strong in goal as usual, finishing with 4 saves.
East Sac improves to 5-7-3 on the season and heads to Heelan on Wednesday for 2nd round Regionals.
