Audubon Boys, Coon Rapids Bayard, Glidden Ralston and Paton Churdan At Madrid State Qualifying Meet- Class 1A
It was a windy night in Madrid as the Boys and Girls from Audubon (boys only), Coon Rapids Bayard, Glidden Ralston and Paton Churdan competed to qualify for next week’s State Track Meet. Winners from tonight’s meet automatically qualify but the top 8 non-qualifiers from around the state will qualify in at-large bids.
Trevon Keely of Paton Churdan became the first qualifier, winning the Long Jump on his final jump of the finals. Keely finished with a 21-10.00. He was leading through prelims but trailed going into his final jump. Keely qualified in his second field event, winning the High Jump, clearing 6-03, winning the event by two inches. He finished 2nd at the State Meet a year ago and is ranked #1 in Class 1A heading into the State Meet. Audubon Boys Distance Medley ran a strong race, clinching a berth to the State Meet. They won the race in 3:47.39 with Adam Obrecht, Mason Steckler, Brody Schultes, Aiden Kjergaard.
Below are 2nd place finishers who can still qualify. Others may also qualify; we will put out an updated list when it’s released.
Malia Clayburg of Coon Rapids Bayard was 2nd in the High Jump at 4-10. The Crusaders were 2nd in the Shuttle Hurdle with Lauren Cook, Aubrey Hofbauer, Amelia Eddy and Malia Clayburg. They ran a 1:09.65. Cal Heydon of Coon Rapids Bayard was 2nd in the Shot Put, throwing a 53-08.00. Coon Rapids Bayard Boys may have another qualifier as they ran a great 4×200 with Caden Oswald having an amazing close to the race. They finished 2nd in 1:32.90 with Mason Culbertson, Cal Heydon, Parker Hays and Caden Oswald. Madrid won the race by 0:02. Aiden Kjergaard of Audubon ran a strong 800 Meters, finishing in 2nd in 2:05.66. Coon Rapids Bayard Girls 4×200 had a very strong race with Anna Hart on a terrific closing leg. They finished 2nd in 52.93 with Lauren Cook, Amelia Eddy Malia Clayburg and Anna Hart. Coon Rapids Bayard Boys 4×100 got another strong close from Caden Oswald, taking 2nd place in 43.93 with Mason Culbertson, Cal Heydon, Parker Hays and Caden Oswald. Audubon Boys 4×400 had a good race taking 2nd place in 3:33.38 with Adam Obrecht, Mason Steckler, Jorgan Nowatzke and Brody Schultes. Trevon Keely of Paton Churdan had to run the 200 Meters a second time due to clock and camera issues. He appeared to be 2nd in the original race and was in 2nd place after the redo, running a 22.75.
