Audubon and Kuemper At Class 1A Region 2 Individual Tournament At Denison
Kuemper earned the singles title and the doubles title on Monday, sending both to the State Meet in Iowa City on May 30th and 31st. Audubon earned a win in doubles and played well in their singles matches before falling in the opening round. Kaylie Simons of Kuemper advances to State in singles, going 4-0 in matches, winning the Championship match 6-0 and 6-1 over Abby Teske of South Hardin. Simons swept her opening round match and won the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0. She battled in the semifinals, winning the second set 7-5 to advance into the finals. Sophia Tidgren and Charlotte Schwabe of Kuemper advanced to the State meet, winning the doubles title, going 4-0 in matches with a sweep in the finals over Payton Askelsen and Harley Askelsen of Ballard, winning 7-5 and 6-3. Tidgren and Schwabe won their opening round match 6-1, 6-1, then defeated Grace Zaiger and Samantha Warnaca of Audubon 6-0, 6-0. Zaiger and Warnaca had won their opening round match 2-6, 6-4 (8). The semifinals were a fight for the Knights, with Tidgren and Schwabe winning 7-5, 6-7 (5) and 1-0 (8) over Shannon Jenkins and Claire Hardinger of Boone. Ella Schwarte of Kuemper won her opening match in singles before falling to Abby Teske of South Hardin in the semifinals. Rachael Rynearson and Briley Belnap of Audubon both played well in their opening round of singles but fell. Bella Lu and Kaia Neumann of Kuemper won their opening round match 6-3, 6-0 before falling in the quarterfinals. Alice Adam and Lauren Greving of Audubon fell in the opening round.
