2nd Team
Jeisson Avilez- Carroll
The senior closed out his career strong, earning 27 wins this season with 14 by fall. His run to the championship and 1st place finish at the Herb Irgens was impressive with a pair of tight wins, including the championship match, winning 8-7. He took 2nd at the Tiger Invite in late December and was 3rd at the DCG Invite in early December.
Leyton Elmquist- Audubon
The freshman was strong this season, earning his way to the State Tournament and picking up a win. He was strong all season but may have been at his best in January. He went 14-2 from January 14th to January 24th, winning three of his first-four matches at the Herb Irgens. Seven of those fourteen wins were by fall. He added a nine match win streak in February, ending with a 2nd place finish at the State Qualifying Meet.
Lane Elmquist- Audubon
The junior qualified for State for the second straight season. He had another strong season, finishing with 38 wins, 22 of them by fall. He won 12 straight matches in January with five by fall along with two by tech fall. Elmquist took 3rd at the Dan Hill Invitational and the WIC Tournament. He added a 2nd place finish at his home tournament in early February.
Jack Stanerson- Audubon
The senior closed out his career with a solid senior season, finishing with 31 wins. He started the season on a tear, winning his first-five matches and nine of his first-ten. Seven of those nine wins were by fall. Stanerson was 2nd at the Audubon Invitational, part of a five match winning streak. He took 3rd at the Dan Hill Invitational and was 3rd at the WIC.
Cooper Nattress- South Central Calhoun
Nattress broke onto the scene and had a very strong freshman season. He helped a young team that shows great promise for the future. He ended the season with 43 wins, 20 of those were by fall. Nattress was steady all season having five winnings streaks of four or more matches. His longest winning streak was in February when he won 10 matches in a row.
Brayden Werneburg- South Central Calhoun
The sophomore was one of the top wrestlers for the Titans this season, earning 48 wins. He started the season strong with five wins, winning eleven of his first-twelve matches. Five of those eleven wins were by fall. Werneburg had four winning streaks this season that were five matches long. He was 2nd at the Doug Wood Invitational, went 4-1 at CRB Invitational and was 2nd at the TLC Tournament.
Jace Pedersen- South Central Calhoun
Pedersen missed the early part of the season but came back strong after missing the season before the middle of January. He won his first-five matches with four of them by fall. His quickness and agility were strengths, allowing him to attack his opponent and get a quick advantage. The only time he lost more than one match in a row was at the State Tournament, where he went 1-2. He won the TLC Tournament and was 2nd at the State Qualifying meet.
Dawson Allen- East Sac
Allen was the Raiders best wrestler this season, earning 29 wins on the season. The Sophomore was steady all season, but took off in January. He went 20-7 in January with a 7 match winning streak early in the month, then a 10 match winning streak that rolled into February. He won the KP Krosch Invitational in early February, won the Doug Wood Invite to start the season, was 2nd at the Paul Fuhrman Tournament and was 3rd in the TLC Tournament.
Caleb Hoffman- Kuemper
The junior was strong this season, wrestling his best in early January and in February. Hoffman finished with 26 wins, 16 of them were by fall. He had a six match win streak in early January with a pair of wins by fall and a tech fall. He added five straight wins in February with a pair of wins by fall. Hoffman qualified for State, earning a win in his opening round match.
Coby Pierce- Kuemper
Pierce wrestled his best at the State Tournament, going 3-2 with a win by fall and a major decision. He finished the season with a 27-8 record. Twice during his senior season he had to miss some time, missing a stretch in the middle of December and again in the middle of January. He won eight straight matches in early February, figuring out how to use his athleticism and quickness to his advantage. Three of those wins came by fall.
1st Team
Ethan Bauer- Coon Rapids Bayard
Bauer was part of a big resurgence in Coon Rapids Bayard wrestling this season. The junior won 37 matches and only lost 12. He started the season with six straight wins with three by fall. He added eleven straight wins in late January and two more five match win streaks in February. Twelve of his wins came by fall. Bauer advanced to the State Tournament, gaining great experience for next season. Bauer won the Griswold Tournament, went 4-0 at the Ogden Tournament and took 2nd at the State Qualifying Meet.
Tyler Mohr- Coon Rapids Bayard
The senior closed his career with another strong season. He was strong all season with his best stretches in December and early February. Mohr won seventeen matches in a row in December and January. Thirteen of those wins were by fall. He was 3rd at the Dennis Field Invitational, 2nd at the Griswold Tournament and was 4-1 at the Ogden Tournament. Mohr finished his career going 39-12.
Treynor Cose- Coon Rapids Bayard
The junior was one of the best wrestlers in the area by the end of the season, finishing at the State Tournament with a 45-8 record. Cose never lost more than one match in a row before the State Tournament. He came on strong late in December, winning five in a row and went on a nice run after the first of the year. He went 17-1 to start the month of January with twelve of those wins by fall. He was 3rd at the Dennis Field Invitational, won the Crusaders Invite, the Griswold Tournament and was undefeated at the Ogden Tournament. He added a 3rd place at the Charter Invitational. Cose qualified for the State Tournament.
Johnny Cortez- Coon Rapids Bayard
Cortez had this third straight strong season for the Crusaders. He ended the season 43-7 with 24 wins by fall. He started the season with seven straight wins, then added twelve straight wins between late December and early January. Cortez didn’t stop there, winning eight in a row, followed by a five and eight match win streak. He was 2nd at the Dennis Field Invitational, won the Crusaders Invite, took 2nd at the Griswold Tournament and was 5-0 at the Griswold Tournament. He added a 3rd place finish at the Charger Invitational.
Quinten Polking- Carroll
Polking was strong again this season, qualifying for the State Tournament for a second straight season. He finished the year 28-10, earning a win at the State Tournament. He was 2nd at the DCG Invitational to start the season, then won the Tiger Invitational in late December. Polking was 3rd at the Rollin Dyer Invitational and the Herb Irgens Invitational. He ended the regular season, taking 3rd at the RRC Tournament. He won his first-five matches, won eight in a row in December and January and added two more five match winning streaks.
Kieran Polking- Carroll
A ten match winning streak early in the season helped Polking have another strong season for the Tigers. He was 14-2 in early January with ten of those wins by fall. He added a five and four match win streak in January and February respectively. 22 of his 27 wins this season were by fall. He finished 2nd at the DCG Invitational in December, won the Tiger Invitational in late December, took 2nd at Herb Irgens and was 3rd at the RRC Tournament. He didn’t have a two match losing streak all season.
Owen Klocke- Carroll
Polking ended his great career in style at the State Tournament, defeating the 3rd and 4th seeded wrestlers at the State Tournament. That helped him finish on the podium for the first time in his career, taking 5th place. Klocke was dynamite at the State Tournament, making it tough for his opponents to score. He started the season 4-0 and had five winning streaks of four matches or more during the season. Klocke went 35-12 on the season with 24 wins by fall. He was 2nd at the DCG Invite, Tiger Invite and Herb Irgens Invite along with the RRC Invite. He went 5-2 at the State Tournament.
Wrestler of the Year
Karson Wuebker- South Central Calhoun
Wuebker was fantastic in his freshman year. He qualified for State, taking 5th place with four wins at the State Tournament with three of those wins in dominant fashion. He was unbeatable most of the season, finishing 54-5 with two of his losses to the top ranked wrestler in his weight class. 24 of his wins this season were by fall. Wuebker won the Crusaders Invitational, the TLC Tournament and was 2nd at the Herb Irgens. He added a 2nd place finish at the State Qualifying Meet. He won his first-twenty eight matches of the season, then added a thirteen match winning streak. He finished the season going 4-2 at the State Tournament.
Coach of the Year
Tim Patrick- Coon Rapids Bayard
Tim Patrick has helped Coon Rapids Bayard reestablish themselves as a strong program and the future looks bright. They graduate three seniors from this season but the cupboard is strong. Patrick has led the program with an aggressive style and has conditioned his wrestlers to wrestle deep into matches, wearing opponents down. They will return a pair of state qualifiers from this season and several other wrestlers that will be favored to qualify next year. They won the Griswold Tournament this season and were 2nd at the Rolling Valley Tournament.
