Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Carroll Falls in Tight Game to Storm Lake on Thursday

Carroll had a chance to take the lead late but a travel call gave the ball back to Storm Lake and they drained a three to regain control of the game where they couldn’t put the Tigers away. The Tornadoes led by seven in the 1st half and 11 in the 2nd half but Carroll rallied each time. They took the lead on a Jared Mohr two handed dunk in the 1st half tied the game at 51 on a Mac Collison three in the 2nd half. After Storm Lake went back up three the Tigers never got closer than two all game. Mac Collison gave Carroll another chance late, hitting a three to pull them within 62-59 but Storm Lake closed the game hitting four straight free throws to seal the win.

Carroll struggled early, missing good looks on the offensive end as Storm Lake went up 5-0. The lead grew to 10-3 but Mack Collison and Blake Molinsky hit back-to-back threes and Carroll was within 10-9. The Tornadoes went back on top 15-9 but Carroll fought back, pulling within 16-15 with baskets by Noah Hinners and Mac Collison. Jared Mohr gave Carroll their first lead with a two handed dunk but Storm Lake answered with a three and led 19-17. Mac Collison, was huge for Carroll, draining a three to give Carroll a 20-19 lead. Storm Lake responded again, going up 21-20 and they never trailed again. The Tornadoes led 19-17 at the end of the 1st quarter. Miles Nuzback had a huge 1st half for Carroll draining several threes and getting into the lane. His 11 points in the 1st half kept Carroll in the game. The Tornadoes built a 29-23 lead by Miles Nuzback went on a 5-0 run and Carroll was back in the game. A pair of free throws from Trey Tassell tied the game at 31. Storm Lake closed out the half with a 6-0 run, helped out by a defensive foul away from the ball on a made basket. The Tornadoes used that possession to score twice without Carroll touching the ball and ended the half on a 6-0 run.

Storm Lake immediately stretched their six point halftime lead to eight, their largest of the game to that point. Jared Mohr had a three point play, cutting it to 39-34. The Tornadoes stretched their lead with a 10-4 run to grab their largest lead of the game, 49-38 early in the 4th quarter. Jared Mohr cut the deficit to 49-40 and Blake Molinsky drained a three. A Jared Mohr free throw and a pair of free throws from Miles Nuzback pulled Carroll within 49-46. A Stone Sibenaller layup kept Carroll within three. Mac Collison tied the game at 51 with a three. Carroll made a stop and had a fast break. A travel call that was close to a foul on the defense kept the Tigers from scoring and Storm Lake responded with Trey Boettcher draining a corner three and Storm Lake never led by less than two points again. A Miles Nuzback bucket cut the Carroll deficit to 55-53 and Mac Collison drained a long three from the sideline to pull them within 62-59 but Jaidyn Coon hit a free throw and Gabieno Weno added three straight free throws and Storm Lake held on to win 66-61.

Mac Collison was clutch all game for Carroll, leading them with 17 points along with 4 assists. Jared Mohr added 10 points and 5 rebounds and Miles Nuzback fouled out midway through the 4th after scoring 15 points. Noah Hinners added 6 points and 4 rebounds.

The Tigers finish their season at 10-13.
