Boys State Wrestling Results Friday, February 21st
Karson Wuebker of South Central, Owen Klocke of Carroll and Coby Pierce of Kuemper
Class 1
Karson Wuebker of South Central Calhoun kept his hopes for a 3rd place finish at the State Tournament alive, earning a pair of wins on Friday. Wuebker had to battle in his 4th round consolation match, jumping out quickly 13-2 Mason Knapp of West Bend Mallard. Knapp rallied with a pair of takedowns, gaining back points to tie the match at 13. Wuebker got a takedown early in the 3rd period and worked it into a win by fall in 4:54. Wuebker took on Conner Morrow of Akron Westfield in the 5th round consolation. Wuebker used a big move late in the 2nd period and went on to win by major decision 12-4.
He will face Ethan Humphrey of West Branch on Saturday.
Class 2A
Owen Klocke of Carroll is alive for 3rd place, earning a pair of wins on Friday. Klocke faced the #2 seed in Taylor Mahler of Hampton Dumont in the 4th round consolation. He wrestled a brilliant match, not allowing Mahler inside, sprawling when he took his shots. Klocke was able to wear him down and earned a 2-1 win in 5 periods. Klocke took on Cason Miller of Fairfield in the 5th round consolation. Again, he wrestled a smart match, working out a 4-1 win. He used a big move in the 2nd period to gain control of the match.
Klocke will wrestle on Saturday against Tate Slagle of Algona.
Coby Pierce of Kumper wrestled against Jeryn Funke of West Delaware in the 4th round consolation. Funke was able to attack his legs, getting a few takedowns before defeating Pierce by fall in 3:17. Pierce ended the season 27-8.
