Girls Basketball Postseason Results Tuesday, February 18th

The defenses dominated the early part of the game and it was the IKM-Manning defense in the closing minutes that helped them pull out a come from behind win in the 4th quarter. The Wolves led most of the game but East Sac rallied from down 8 in the 3rd quarter to grab a 4th quarter lead but Anna Stangl hit four straight free throws to give IKM-Manning the lead back and they would stretch the lead to 8 in the final minute to clinch the first regional win for most of the girls on the Wolves roster. The Raiders had a strong defensive effort, helping them rally from a 2 point 1st quarter, falling behind by 10 in the 2nd quarter and down 8 in the 3rd quarter to take a lead with just over three minutes left.

Makenna Steiger hit a jumper from just above the free throw line putting the Raiders up 2-1 early. The game stayed that way until the final few minutes of the quarter as both offenses struggled to get clean looks. The Wolves closed the quarter on a 9-0 run with Anna Stangl giving them the lead at 4-2, Taylor Beckendorf stretched it to 6-2 and Emma Branning gave the Wolves an 8-2 lead. Beckendorf finished the scoring in the quarter and IKM-Manning led 10-2 going to the 2nd quarter. A pair of Taylor Beckendorf free throws helped the Wolves lead 14-4 but Jordin Carroll sparked the Raiders with a bucket. Addisen Ehler cut it to 14-8 with a basket, then added a pair of free throws making it 17-11. The Raiders had a couple chances to pull closer but didn’t until Makenna Steiger hit a pull-up jumper near the halftime buzzer to pull the Raiders within 17-13 at half.

Keagan Eischeid and Taylor Beckendorf pushed the lead to 23-15 early in the 3rd but East Sac rallied with Sarah Bontrager and Kendall Quirk scoring to make it a 4 point game. Keagan Eischeid pushed the lead back to 6 but Quirk scored again and Makenna Steiger made it a 25-23 Wolves lead. Addisen Ehler scored inside to tie the game at 25. Emma Branning hit a free throw and McKenna Benton drained a three for IKM-Manning and they led 29-25. Jordin Carroll cut it to 29-27 and Chloe Bieret drained a three and East Sac led 30-29. Anna Stangl knocked in a pair of free throws giving the Wolves the lead back and Taylor Beckendorf grabbed a defensive rebound and feed Stangl who was fouled and made both free throws. McKenna Benton added a free throw and Taylor Beckendorf scored to make it 36-30. Anna Stangl had a offensive rebound and scored to clinch the win as the Wolves led 38-30 with under 0:30 left.

Taylor Beckendorf was terrific for IKM-Manning, scoring 16 points with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Her defensive pressure at the top of their 1-3-1 created problems for East Sac. Anna Stangl had 11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Oriah Meineres had 6 rebounds.

Addisen Ehler led East Sac with 10 points and 9 rebounds, Makenna Steiger added 9 points and Kendall Quirk had 5 points and 9 rebounds. Chloe Bieret with 4 steals with Jordin Carroll adding 3 steals.

IKM-Manning improves to 11-11 overall and heads to Hinton on Friday. East Sac season ends at 10-12.

Coon Rapids Bayard locked in defensively as they topped Glidden Ralston for the third time this season and second time in the last eight days. They limited the number of good shots for Glidden Ralston and didn’t give up many second chance opportunities. The Wildcats defense was stingy as well, holding the Crusaders to 48 points and not allowing them to have a huge offensive quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard led 11-2 at the end of the 1st quarter and were up 28-4 at half.

The Crusaders were balanced offensively with Malia Clayburg leading the way with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Anna Hart added 10 points and Ella Heithoff scored 8 points and had 3 steals. Aubrey Hofbauer grabbed 5 rebounds, had 7 steals and blocked 3 shots while Ashtyn Klocke had 7 rebounds and had 6 steals.

Ashlynn Tigges led the Wildcats with 4 points with Olivia Squibb, Bre Hartwigsen and Kassidy Wenck all had 2 points.

The Crusaders are 17-4 and will host St Edmond on KIKD on Friday. Glidden Ralston ends their season at 7-15.

South Central Calhoun battled at 3rd ranked Hinton but had their season come to an end on Tuesday in the Regional Quarterfinals. The Titans fell down quickly against the Blackhawks pressure defense and were down 27-10 at the end of the 1st quarter. They hung tough in the 2nd quarter, holding Hinton to 11 points. The Blackhawks opened it up again with a big 3rd quarter.

Bre Patterson paced the Titans with 13 points, adding 3 blocked shots, Blair Schleisman had 5 points and 6 rebounds. Sadie Wheelock 9 points with 4 rebounds.

South Central Calhoun ends their season at 10-13.

Exira-EHK vs Underwood- Class 2A Region 7

The Exira-EHK Spartans picked up a big win at home as they knocked off Underwood to advance in the 2A postseason. The Spartans struggled on offense to start the game as Underwood was able to build an 8-2 lead. Exira-EHK would respond as they knocked down some big threes to give themselves a 9-8 lead. Underwood was able to get the lead back at 10-9, but the Spartans would lead 12-10 in the second quarter. Exira-EHK put more pressure on the ball defensively in the second quarter, and it worked. They were able to grow their lead in the quarter as they outscored Underwood 14-3. Exira-EHK would lead 26-13 at the half.

The Spartans were able to share the basketball better in the second half, moving the ball from both sides of the court. Exira-EHK started the third quarter on an 11-0 run, growing their lead. The Spartans led 49-24 going into the fourth quarter. Exira-EHK added 12 more points in the quarter, going on to win 61-33. 

The Spartans had three players score in double figures. Jaelynn Petersen scored a team-high 22 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Kadence Sporrer and Taryn Petersen each chipped in 14 points in the win. With the win, the Spartans moved to 17-5. Exira-EHK is back in action on Friday against MVAOCOU.
