Coon Rapids Bayard showed their defensive muscle on Monday, holding Nodaway Valley to 5 points in the 2nd half as they cruised through their first postseason game. The defense led to a strong offensive performance with great ball movement. The Crusaders had 22 assists on 33 made baskets. The defense came up with 15 steals while Coon Rapids Bayard only turned it over 7 times. Coon Rapids Bayard led 21-8 at the end of the 1st quarter and were up 46-24 at half. They outscored Nodaway Valley 24-0 in the 3rd quarter. 

Cal Heydon paced the Crusaders with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Bryce Lewis had a huge game with 18 points and 5 assists. Ty Heydon added another double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Caden Oswald had 12 points.

The Crusaders moved to 20-2 overall and will host Stanton or Murray on Thursday on KIKD 106.7.

Ar-We-Va jumped out early and didn’t allow Paton Churdan to crawl back in. They built a 22-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, extending it to 45-25 at half. Blayne Smith had a big 1st half Ar-We-Va with 18 points. His ability to rebound and push helped Ar-We-Va get some good looks on the offensive end. Trevon Keely tried to keep Paton Churdan within striking distance, scoring 11 points in the 1st half. Paton Churdan went on a run to start the 2nd half, pulling within 13 but Ar-We-Va closed the quarter on a 20-2 run to put the game away, leading 67-36. 

Blayne Smith paced Ar-We-Va with 25 points and 7 rebounds with Wyatt Ragaller adding 15 points and 4 steals. Derek Thomsen scored 11 points, Aiden Blackman had 9 points and Hayden Studeer added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the win. 

Trevon Keely led Paton Churdan with 19 points along with 6 rebounds, Phoenix Hartman added 12 points and 5 rebounds, Bryce Stephenson had 8 rebounds and Kinnick Steimel scored 9 points. 

Ar-We-Va moves to 16-6 with the win and will host IKM-Manning on KIKD On Thursday. Paton Churdan finishes 6-15.

The Audubon Wheelers keep their season alive as they knock off Glidden-Ralston at home in the class 1A postseason on Monday. The first half was low scoring but fast paces as both teams got up and down the quart. The Wheelers only trailed twice in the game, both of them came in the second half. Audubon would jump out to a 9-4 lead to start the game. The Wheelers would grow their lead to 11-6 going to the second quarter. The Wildcats struggled to move the basketball against Audubon’s length as the Wheelers forced turnovers. Audubon grew their lead to 21-15 at the half.

Glidden-Ralston would make adjustments at the half as they were able to take a lead in the third quarter. The Wildcats would lead 29-28. Audubon was able to tie the game up at 32-32. The Wheelers would close the quarter on a 6-0 run as they took a 38-32 lead going to the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 17 points in the quarter. Glidden-Ralston would struggle again with turnovers in the fourth quarter as they were able to get easy baskets in their transition offense. Audubon outscored Glidden-Ralston 21-15 in the quarter. The Wheelers would go on to win 59-47.

Audubon was balanced on the offensive end of the floor as they had two players score in double figures. Oliver Deist scored a team-high 15 points. Deist also did a great job on the defensive end. Brody Schultes chipped in 14 points off the bench. Austin Christensen added eight points for the Wheelers. Dawson Majerus for Glidden-Ralston had one of his best offensive games as he scored 21 points. Waylon Hein recorded a double-double for the Wildcats with 11 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, Audubon moves to 11-11. The Wheelers will be back in action on Thursday against ACGC. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston’s season comes to an end at 10-12.

IKM-Manning earned a nice road win in the opening round of the Class 1A District 15 postseason. The Wolves pushed the lead into double digits in the 3rd, then had to  hold off a Cougars rally. The game was tight most of the 1st half with IKM-Manning edging ahead in the 2nd quarter to lead 26-21 at half. A 15-3 run in the 3rd, sparked by threes from Isaac Blankman and Ben Ramsey helped the Wolves build a 41-24 lead. CAM pulled within 47-37 by the end of the 3rd quarter. The Cougars continued to climb back into the game, pulling within 49-43 but the Wolves hit free throws down the stretch to hold off and earn their 11th win of the season. 

The Wolves had three players in double figures, led by Ben Ramsey with 21 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Wyatt Danner had another strong game with 16 points and 9 rebounds with Isaac Blankman scoring 11 points. Ashton Ahrenholtz has become a strong rebounder, finishing with 13 rebounds along with 8 points. 

The Wolves improved to 11-11 and will  head to Ar-We-Va on Thursday on 93.7 KKRL.

East Sac broke out of a shooting slump early building a 15-9 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. They kept moving the ball well early in the 2nd quarter, getting good shots. They knocked the shots down, building a 27-11 lead with a few minutes left in the half. Missouri Valley rallied as the Raiders relaxed, closing the half with a 15-2 run to trail 29-26 at half. The game was tight most of the 2nd half but East Sac stretched the lead to 8 with 3:00 minutes left. The Big Red got a couple defensive rebounds and a Raider turnover to pull within 1 with 1:30 left. Zach Jacobsen hit a clutch three to push the lead back up and Sam Julin closed out the win with four free throws. 

Landon Sporrer had a strong game with 16 points and 5 assists. Asher Lawler added 13 points and 5 rebounds, Sam Julin added 7 points and 11 rebounds and Zach Jacobsen finished with 11 points. Jack Gullett had a nice game with 7 points and 5 assists. 

The Raiders snapped an 8 game losing streak, improving to 8-14 overall. They head to Tri Center on Thursday.

South Central Calhoun used a dominating defensive effort in the 4th quarter and the return of Cole Higgins to earn a comfortable win to open the postseason. The game was tight most of the game with South Central Calhoun edging in front 35-30 at half. The Indians hung tight with a good 3rd quarter and were down four going into the final stanza. The Titans held Pocahontas Area to 4 points in the 4th quarter, pulling away for a 15 point win. 

Cole Higgins led the Titans with 25 points with Evan Myers scoring 12 points, Garrett Krause had 11 points and Charlie Nattress added 9 points. 

The Titans improved to 13-9 overall and will head to Cherokee on Thursday.
