Kuemper At St Albert

Kuemper claimed the Hawkeye 10 Conference championship outright with their win at St Albert on Tuesday. The game wasn’t pretty early as Kuemper struggled to hit shots for most of the 1st quarter and early in the 2nd quarter. They exploded for a 16-2 run to close the 1st half and went up by 25 in the 3rd quarter. Kuemper looked like they were going to run away but they struggled with turnovers, rushed shots over the final five minutes and St Albert pulled within 11 at the end of the game. The Falcons outscored the Knights 30-18 in the 4th quarter.

Brock Badding drained a corner three to start the scoring and Ryan Clair hit a pair of free throws but St Albert hit a three and a pair of free throws, grabbing a 6-5 lead. Dylan Schon hit a pair of free throws as the lead changed hands again. The lead changed hands four times in the 1st quarter with Griffin Glynn putting Kuemper up 11-10 with a three late in the 1st quarter. The Knights held a 13-12 lead going to the 2nd quarter. St Albert grabbed the lead early in the 2nd quarter and held the lead until midway through the 2nd quarter. Dylan Schon put the Knights on top 17-16 and Tregan Beiter made it 20-18. St Albert tied the game at 20 late in the 1st half but Kuemper went on one of their runs. Kuemper closed the half on a 16-2 run and led 36-22 at half. Brock Badding hit a three at the buzzer as the Knights had great ball movement to get him open.

Brock Badding got hot to start the 2nd half, opening the half with a three and Kuemper was off and running. Badding stretched the lead to 41-24 with a jumper, Carson Kanne hit a three and Brock Badding added back-to-back three’s and Kuemper led 51-28. The Knights grabbed their largest lead at 53-28 with a Brock Badding steal and dunk. Kuemper led 59-38 going to the 4th quarter. St Albert cut the Knights lead to 61-44 but Ryan Clair and Nash Leonard scored inside pushing it to 66-44. Clair scored again, making it 70-46 but St Albert didn’t quit, coming out with full court pressure. Kuemper struggled down the stretch as St Albert made it a game. The Knights held on to win by 9.

Brock Badding had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Ryan Clair added 17 points and 13 rebounds. Dylan Schon scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Carson Kanne dished out several nifty assists, finishing with 11 assists and 7 points. Griffin Glynn fiinished with 8 points.

The Knights wrap up the regular season at 20-1 and 10-0 in the Hawkeye 10. They await the winner of East Marshall and Ogden for their opening postseason game next Thursday.

Carroll at North Polk

The Carroll Tigers pick up a big Raccoon River Conference win as they go on the road and beat North Polk. The Tigers were able to go on runs in the first and second half which led to them building their lead. Carroll jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers would only lead by two a t 10-8, going to the second quarter. Carroll played great defense in the first half, which helped them build a lead. The Tigers would lead 25-18 at the half. Coming out of the locker rooms, North Polk would go on a run, tying the game at 27-27. Carroll would end the third quarter on a 14-7 run, taking a 41-34 lead. Carroll would stretch their lead in the fourth quarter as they went on to win 59-46.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Stone Sibenaller, who knocked down some big shots in the first half. Sibenaller recorded a team-high 16 points in the win. Jared Mohr added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Miles Nuzback added nine points and four rebounds for the Tigers. With the win, Carroll moves to 9-10. The Tigers are back in action on Friday against Gilbert.

The 1st half was a battle with both teams playing well. The game was tied at 11 at the end of the 1st quarter as neither team could get an advantage. East Sac worked their offense well, getting good shots in the 2nd quarter, building a 27-23 lead at half. Their defense did a nice job containing the Titans. South Central Calhoun defense cranked it up a notch in the 2nd half, allowing them to take the lead for good. They went ahead in the 3rd quarter and were up 36-31 entering the 4th quarter. The Raiders hung close, giving themselves a chance as South Central Calhoun went up 44-38 but Sam Julin hit a three to pull the Raiders within 44-41 with 3:22 to go. Garrett Krause responded with a three and the Titans were back up six with 3:00 left. Charlie Nattress extended the Titans lead to 49-41 with a pair of free throws. Evan Myers pushed the Titans lead to 10 with 1:24 remaining. Sam Julin hit another three for East Sac and they were down 51-44 with just over a minute left. Charlie Nattress scored and made the free throw to seal the win for the Titans with 0:24 left.

Charlie Nattress led the Titans with 14 points with Andrew Anderson scoring 13 points, Garrett Krause 9 points and Evan Myers with 8 points.

Sam Julin had at a game high 22 points for East Sac with 5 assists. Jack Gullett had 11 rebounds and Asher Lawler had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

South Central Calhoun improved to 12-8 overall and will host Storm Lake on Thursday. East Sac fell to 7-13 and will host Ridge View on Thursday.

Audubon at AHSTW

The Wheelers struggled on offense as they fell on the road at AHSTW. The first half was back and forth as AHSTW would lead 34-31 at the half. Audubon only managed 13 points in the second half as they would go on to lose 66-44. Aiden Kjergaard scored a team-high nine points in the loss. Oliver Deist added eight points for Audubon. Aaron Olsen, Brody Schultes, and Carson Wessell chipped in six points each. With the loss, Audubon falls to 10-11. The Wheelers are back at home on Monday against Glidden-Ralston as they open postseason play.
