Boys Basketball Results Monday, January 27th 

Carroll At ADM

Carroll couldn’t hold onto to an early lead against the 6th ranked team in Class 3A, falling on the road to ADM. The Tigers played well in the 1st half, grabbing a 32-28 lead at half. The Tigers were moving the ball well and getting good looks, scoring 21 in the 1st quarter to lead 21-17. Both teams cooled as the defenses adjusted in the 2nd but ADM came alive in the 2nd half. ADM outscored Carroll by 10, 26-16 in the 3rd to take the lead and finished it off with a strong 4th quarter. Carroll was balanced on offense but weren’t able to get stops on the defensive end.

Jared Mohr led the Carroll attack with 18 points, Noah Hinners added 10 points and 3 assists. Miles Nuzback and Blake Molinsky both had 9 points as Carroll had four guys within a couple points of double figures. Stone Sibenaller and Trey Tassell both scored 8 points. Carter Essick pulled down 8 rebounds.

The loss drops Carroll to 5-8 overall and 3-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. They host Boone on KCIM on Tuesday.

Audubon At East Sac

Audubon stretched their lead to eleven in the 4th quarter but East Sac cut into it late but the Wheelers held on for a tough road win on Monday. The Raiders led most of the early part of the game but Audubon grabbed the lead midway through the 3rd and never relinquished it. The game was tight into the 4th quarter with East Sac largest lead at five and Audubon largest lead until the 4th quarter four. There were nine lead changes and four ties with the last tie at 32 and the last lead change at 32-30. Audubon was able to take the rim and finish in the 2nd half making only one shot outside the lane in the 2nd half. The Wheelers used their size to get control the boards in the 2nd half. East Sac moved to ball well but Audubon rotated well on defense and East Sac didn’t get clean looks in the 2nd half.

Jack Gullett hit a three to start the game but Audubon responded with a 7-0 run to lead the Raiders 7-3. Aaron Olsen jumper put the Wheelers up 5-3 and Austin Christensen pushed it to 7-3. Jack Gullett hit a pair of free throws and Asher Lawler tied the game at 7, then pushed the Raiders up 9-8. Zach Jacobsen extended the Raiders lead to 12-8 and Asher Lawler gave them their largest lead in the 1st half at 17-12 early in the 2nd quarter. Audubon responded with Austin Christensen scoring inside and Jordan Nowatzke getting his first bucket in the game. Christensen scored again and Audubon led 18-17 but Asher Lawler put East Sac back up 19-18. The lead changed hands several times but Sam Julin hit a jumper near the free throw line at the 1st half buzzer and East Sac led 24-22 at half.

Asher Lawler scored four points in a row and East Sac went up 28-23 early in the 2nd half. Audubon trimmed into the deficit with Aiden Kjergaard making it a one point game. Austin Christensen gave Audubon a 29-28 lead but Sam Julin put East Sac up 30-29. That was the last lead for East Sac as Mason Steckler hit a three and the Wheelers went back on top 32-20 and extended the lead to 38-35 at the end of the 3rd on a steal and bucket by Jorgen Nowatzke. Nowatzke was huge in the 4th for Audubon as the Raiders couldn’t stop his attacks to the basket. He had 10 points in the 4th quarter helping Audubon extend their lead. A Jack Gullett free throw pulled the Raiders to 45-40 but Jorgen Nowatzke scored four straight and Oliver Deist pushed it to 51-40, the Wheelers largest lead. Asher Lawler cut it to 51-43 with a three and East Sac fought back, hitting some free throws late, pulling within 56-51 with a few seconds left. Austin Christensen and Jorgen Nowatzke carried the Wheelers down the stretch.

Austin Christensen finished the night with 15 points and 13 rebounds for Audubon with Jorgen Nowatzke adding 15 points with 4 steals. Brody Schultes added 8 points and Carson Wessel had 7 rebounds.

Asher Lawler led the Raiders with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals and Sam Julin had 15 points and 8 assists. Kade Snyder and Landon Sporrer both had 5 rebounds.

Audubon improves to 7-8 overall and will host IKM-Manning on KKRL on Thursday. East Sac falls to 7-7 and will head to Manson NW Webster on Tuesday.

After a sluggish start the Crusaders took charge in the 2nd half, outscoring the Bulldogs 44-27. The Coon Rapids Bayard defense shut down the outside game for Ogden, holding them to 28.6% from beyond the arc. That was huge as the Bulldogs shot the ball well inside the arc. Caden Oswald shot it well from deep for the Crusaders while Ty Heydon and Cal Heydon began to control the game inside the paint. They combined for 41 points and 23 rebounds.  The Crusaders finished the game 29-57 from the field, shooting 50.9%, taking 24 more shots than Ogden. They had 21 assists and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds. Coon Rapids Bayard led 15-8 at the end of the 1st quarter and were up 30-23 at half.

Ty Heydon was huge, leading Coon Rapids Bayard with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Cal Heydon added 18 points and 10 rebounds with 3 blocked shots. Caden Oswald was 3-5 from three, finishing with 19 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Bryce Lewis scored 8 points and dished out 6 assists. Parker Hays had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.

The win improves the Crusaders to 14-1 overall as they prepare to head to Exira-EHK on KKRL on Tuesday.
