Carroll rallied from down five with a couple minutes left to knock off number one ranked (Class 1A) St Albert 48-47. Sophia Tidgren calmly hit a pair of free throws with 0:06.2 left, putting Carroll up by one. The Tigers gave themselves a chance to win, forcing St Albert to turn the ball over with 0:16 left. The Tigers brought the ball up the court and found Sophia Tidgren cutting to the basket on the right base line. She caught the ball and attacked the two defenders in front of her and was fouled. The senior hadn’t shot a free throw in the game but stepped up and  made both. St Albert pushed the ball up the court and had a chance with a shot from the left wing but it didn’t fall and the ball bounced out-of-bounds as time expired. The game featured five lead changes and three tie with both teams using runs, but neither team leading by double digits. St Albert had the largest lead in the game, up eight in the 3rd quarter. Carroll’s largest lead was early, up four.

Ali Kock gave Carroll their first lead of the game at 3-2 and Sophia Tidgren hit a three to push the lead to 6-2. St Albert responded, closing out the quarter on a 10-2 run, scoring ten in a row to lead 12-8. Ali Kock scored late in the quarter to snap the Saintes run, giving Carroll some momentum to start the 2nd quarter. Katelyn Aden hit the first of four Tiger threes in the 1st half, pulling Carroll within 14-11. After a Saintes three, Aden scored inside and Ali Kock hit a three to cut the lead to 17-16. Jersey Sporrer drained a three to put Carroll up 19-17. St Albert tied the game at 19, then took a 22-21 lead. The pushed the lead to 28-21 at half with a 11-2 run, responding to Carroll’s 8-0 run.

St Albert pushed their lead to 30-22 early in the 3rd quarter but Ali Kock, who was really strong in the 2nd half, hit a pair of free throws and Chloe Kock scored pulling Carroll within 30-26. Sophia Tidgren drained her second-three and the Tigers were within one. Ali Kock added a pair of free throws, keeping Carroll down one late in the 3rd. Olivia Rowedder tied the game at 32 but Carroll couldn’t take the lead as St Albert scored seven in a row. Rowedder and Chloe Kock went four for four from the free throw line, pulling Carroll within 39-36 to start the 4th. The Saintes quickly pushed their lead to 43-36 but Katelyn Aden stopped the run with a pair of free throws. Sophia Tidgren cut the deficit to 44-40 and Ali Kock pulled Carroll within 44-42. St Albert appeared to seal the win with a three, goingup 47-42 with under a minute left. Ali Kock cut the Tiger deficit to 47-44 and Olivia Rowedder made it 47-46. St Albert had the ball with about four seconds difference between the game and shot clock. Carroll used a 1-3-1 half court to styme the Saintes in the 4th quarter and it forced them to make an errant pass, giving Carroll a chance. The Tigers broke the pressure and attacked the lane, finding Sophia Tidgren on the right baseline and she was fouled with 0:06.2 left. Tidgren hit both free throws and St Albert missed on the offensive end as the Tigers gave them their first loss of the season.

Ali Kock was fantastic, leading Carroll with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophia Tidgren had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Katelyn Aden had 7 points and blocked 4 shots. Olivia Rowedder added 7 rebounds.

Carroll improves to 10-4 and will head to ADM on Monday.

The Spartans held on to beat Van Meter on Saturday after building a sixteen point lead midway through the 4th quarter. The Spartans took control of the game in the 2nd quarter after  the lead changed hands five times in the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs led 13-12 heading into the 2nd quarter and  the game went back and forth early with Taryn Petersen giving the Spartans the lead for good. The defense clamped down, limiting the Bulldogs second chance opportunities. The Spartans began attacking the rim offensively, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-7 in the 2nd quarter to lead 29-20. They controlled the 3rd quarter and were up fourteen going to the 4th. Taryn Petersen made a steal and found Riley Miller for a layup and Exira-EHK led 43-27 with 5:14 left. Van Meter called timeout and came out with pressure defense, causing issues for the Spartans. Van Meter used a 10-1 run to pull within 44-37. Harlee Fahn stemmed the tide but Van Meter kept coming, pulling within 46-42 and had the ball with a chance to make it a one possession game. Kadence Sporrer made a huge block, keeping the lead at four. After a free throw from Taryn Petersen, she blocked a Van Meter shot with 0:15 left helping to seal the Spartans win.

Jaelynn Petersen and Taryn Petersen combined to score the Spartans first-ten points as Exira-EHK led 10-9. The lead went back and forth early with Van Meter leading 4-3, Audubon 8-7, Van Meter 9-8 and Audubon 10-9. Harlee Fahn scored to push the Spartans lead to 12-9 but Van Meter closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to lead 13-12. Taryn Petersen put Exira-EHK up 14-13 with a pair of free throws to start the 2nd but Van Meter scored to lead 15-14. Taryn Petersen scored on a drive to the basket and Exira-EHK went up 16-15 and never trailed again. Kadence Sporrer and Taryn Petersen hit back-to-back baskets as the Spartans went up 21-15. Van Meter cut the Spartans lead to 21-20 but the game changed in the next few moments as Exira-EHK closed the 1st half on an 8-0 run to lead 29-20. Taryn Petersen had 20 points in the 1st half.

Jaelynn Petersen scored to start the 3rd and her and Taryn Petersen helped push the Spartans lead to 37-22. Both teams struggled to score in the 3rd with Exira-EHK winning the quarter 10-5 to lead 39-25 going to the final stanza. The Spartans looked like they were going to pull away, pushing the lead to 43-27 on a steal by Taryn Petersen, who found Riley Miller for a layup. A 4-0 run by Van Meter gave them some momentum, as the run turned into a 10-1 run. Harlee Fahn put Exira-EHK up 46-37 but Van Meter scored five in a row, pulling within 46-42. The Spartans got blocks from Kadence Sporrer and Taryn Petersen and a free throw for Taryn Petersen to seal the win. Van Meter outscored Exira-EHK 17-8 in the 4th quarter.

Taryn Petersen led the Spartans with 25 points and 2 steals, Jaelynn Petersen had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Kadence Sporrer added 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

The Spartans improved to 12-3 and will host Coon Rapids Bayard on Tuesday on 93.7 KKRL.
