Kuemper’s rally came up short on Monday as they fought hard in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Cyclones 22-15 but fell by 6. The Knights were outscored 17-4 at the free throw line as the Cyclones hit free throws down the stretch to pull out the win. They kept themselves in the game with three point shots, hitting eleven to the Cyclones seven. Kaylie Simons knocked down four and Elsa Tiefenthaler added three. Harlan used a balanced offense to build a lead, finishing with four girls in double figures. They led 19-12 after the 1st quarter and were up 34-26 at half. The Cyclones added to their lead early in the 2nd half, going up by 13 heading to the final stanza. The Knights roared back in the 4th, forcing some turnovers.
Kaylie Simons led three Knights in double figures with 20 points to go with 4 assists. Elsa Tiefenthaler added 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 assists in a nice all-around game. Karsyn Overmohle added 12 points and Charlotte Hackfort had 6 points and 6 rebounds while Addy Anthofer scored 6 points.
The loss drops Kuemper to 9-7. They host Clarinda on Tuesday.
