Kuemper withstood two East Sac runs to earn their third win in the week while East Sac dropped their second straight after a win early in the week. Both defenses played well, holding each other to under 35% from the field. East Sac shot 31% from the field and Kuemper hit 34% from the field. The Knights full court defense kept East Sac from getting comfortable as they forced the Raiders into 28 turnovers. Many of those turned into buckets for Kuemper. Kuemper did a nice job on the offensive glass and controlled the Raiders inside game most of the game.

East Sac built an early lead but Kuemper rallied in the latter part of the 1st quarter and led 9-7 at the end of quarter. The Knights controlled the 2nd quarter, building a double digit lead, going up 23-13 at half. East Sac opened the 2nd half on a 7-0 run, pulling within four, having a couple chances to extend the lead but weren’t able to score and Kuemper took advantage. The Knights extended the lead back to ten with a quick run, then put more distance between them and the Raiders in the 4th quarter.

Kaylie Simons and Elsa Tiefenthaler both had 15 points and 2 steals with Simons adding 4 rebounds. Alivia Schenkelberg was huge inside, pulling down 11 rebounds and blocking 3 shots. Karsyn Overmohle had a strong all-around game with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Makenna Steiger shot the ball well from deep, hitting 3-7 from 3, finishing with a team high 16 points. Sarah Bontrager had 9 points and 4 steals while Addisen Ehler had 5 points and 9 rebounds and Kendall Quirk pulled down 8 rebounds.

Kuemper improves to 7-6 overall and will host Denison Schleswig on Tuesday. East Sac falls to 4-6 overall and will head to Storm Lake St Mary’s on Friday.

Spartans suffered a tough loss on the road Saturday against a Charges team that sits just outside the top 15. The game went back and forth with ACGC grabbing the lead early and Exira-EHK fighting back to lead at half. The game flipped again in the 3rd with the Chargers building a lead. The Spartans defense forced 19 turnovers but gave up 11 offensive rebounds, several of those leading to free throws for ACGC, which went 14-16 from the free throw line. Exira-EHK struggled at the line, hitting 4 of 11.

Taryn Petersen led two players in double figures for Exira-EHK with 25 points with Zoey Rasmussen adding 11 points and Kadence Sporrer scoring 8 points.

The Spartans are 6-3 heading into a big road game at Woodbine on Tuesday.

Gabby Hundling led Ar-We-Va with 14 points as they fell on the road at Woodbury Central. The Rockets started slowly, falling behind 26-4 at the end of the 1st quarter and were down 46-10 at half. Annalee Wittrock had 5 points and Noelia Gonzalez added 3 points.

The Rockets are 2-6 heading into a road trip at Coon Rapids Bayard on Tuesday.
