Kuemper couldn’t recover from a slow start and their three game winning streak came to an end. The Knights struggled to get shots to fall, falling behind 22-4 at the end of the 1st quarter. Kuemper chipped away at the deficit in the 2nd quarter, getting several shots to fall. Head Coach Justin Yetmar says they talked to the girls about pulling within 10 by half and they nearly did it, trailing 34-22. The 1st quarter struggles resurfaced in the 3rd as Kuemper shot 28.8% from the field and were 4-22 from three-point range. Atlantic was able to stretch the lead in the 3rd, going up 50-28 after three quarters.
Kaylie Simons with 12 points and Elsa Tiefenthaler with 11 points led the Knights offense. Tiefenthaler added 5 assists. Karsyn Overmohle had 8 points with Alivia Schenkelberg pulled down 5 rebounds and Addy Anthofer scored 5 points.
The loss drops Kuemper to 6-6 as they prepare to host East Sac on KIKD on Saturday.

Carroll hosted the 2nd ranked Comets on Friday with a chance to tighten up the race for the lead in the Raccoon River Conference. North Polk jumped out 7-0 as the Tigers struggled against their relentless defensive pressure. Carroll struggled to get clean looks and North Polk was able to get out and score, building a 14-5 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Carroll kept battling, but turnovers cut down on their possessions, limiting their chances to come back. The Tigers trailed 27-12 at half, having played well on the defensive end, allowing them to stay within striking distance. The two teams played evenly in the 2nd half but Carroll wasn’t able to overcome the slow start.
Katelyn Aden had a team high 9 points with Olivia Rowedder and Chloe Kock both scoring 8 points.
The loss drops Carroll to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the league, three games behind North Polk.
Carroll returns home on Tuesday to face Gilbert.

The Rockets struggled in the 1st half for the third straight game, playing better in the 2nd half but unable to recover from the slow start. They trailed 42-10 at half but held the Cougars to 14 points in the 2nd half. Gabbie Hundling added 8 points and Hallie McCollough had 6 points in the loss.
Ar-We-Va falls to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They head to Woodbury Central for a non-conference matchup on Saturday.

Paton Churdan fell to 13th ranked Woodbine on Friday, falling to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Alivya Smith had all 11 of the Rockets points as they trailed 21-5 at the end of the 1st quarter and were down 36-5 at half.
Paton Churdan travels to Boyer Valley on Tuesday in another conference matchup.

East Sac played well on defense and only turned the ball over 13 times but shot 6-38 from the field and fell at home to Emmetsburg. The Raiders trailed 12-3 at the end of the 1st quarter and never scored more than 5 points in any of the four quarters. The Raiders were led by Addisen Ehler with 6 points and 6 rebounds and Sarah Bontrager with 5 points and 4 rebounds. Kendall Quirk added 5 rebounds.
The loss drops East Sac to 4-5 overall as they travel to Kuemper on KIKD 106.7 on Saturday.

South Central Calhoun shot over 50% from the field and had 16 steals as they pulled away in the 2nd half to knock off Storm Lake St Mary’s. The Titans were 26 of 42 from inside the arc but only led 26-18 at half. The defense played well in the 1st half but cranked it up a notch in the 3rd, holding the Panthers to 1 point, allowing the Titans to separate themselves. They controlled the 4th quarter, pushing the game into continuous clock.
The players finished in double figures and a fourth was only a couple points shy. Bre Pattersen had a team high 26 points to go with 4 assists and 4 steals, Adlen Wheelock had 12 points and 5 rebounds and Blair Schleisman finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Macie Dorman added 8 points and 5 assists and Sadie Wheelock had 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks.
The win improves the Titans to 5-7 overall. They will host Humboldt on Tuesday.

The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders pick up another win as they knock off Glidden-Ralston on Friday. Both teams were great on the defensive end. Glidden-Ralston struggled with turnovers in the first half as they struggled to get shots up on the offensive end of the court. Coon Rapids-Bayard would take a 14-2 lead going to the second quarter. Glidden-Ralston only managed five points in the first half as CRB would grow their lead. Going into the locker rooms, the Crusaders would lead 25-5.
The Wildcats were able to move the ball better in the second half as they outscored CRB in the third quarter. In the quarter, Glidden-Ralston added 11 points. Coon Rapids-Bayard would lead 35-16 going to the fourth quarter. CRB was able to get the offense going again in the fourth quarter as they went on to win 51-22.
The Crusaders were led by Anna Hart, who scored a team-high 20 points. Hart also recorded eight steals and five assists in the win. Ella Heithoff and Ashtyn Klocke each chipped in eight points for CRB. Glidden-Ralston only had four girls score in the game. The Wildcats were led by Kassidy Wenck, who recorded eight points. Allison Snyder chipped in six points in the loss.
With the win, Coon Rapids-Bayard moves to 8-1 and 6-0 in conference play. The loss drops Glidden-Ralston to 3-7 and 2-5 in the Rolling Valley. The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday against Ar-We-Va. The Wildcats return to the hardwood on Thursday against West Central Valley.
