The Kuemper Knights pick up a big win on Friday as they open up the second half of their season. The Knights knocked off Bishop Heelan in the opening round of the Catholic Classic. Kuemper shot the ball well, connecting on over 50 percent of their shots. The Knights would jump out to a very early lead in the first quarter as they would lead 21-8. Kuemper would grow their lead in the second quarter as they added 19 points. Going into the locker rooms Kuemper would lead 40-18. The Knights came out of the half, clicking on offense again. They would outscore Bishop Heelan 21-14 to help grow their lead. Kuemper would lead 61-32 going to the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was the only one in which the Knights were outscored. Kuemper would go on to win 73-46.
The Knights had three players in double figures. Brock Badding recorded a team-high 17 points in the win while connecting on four threes. Ryan Clair chipped in 12 points for the Knights. Jack Badding went 3-3 from the floor and added ten points. Carson Kanne had a team-high ten assists. Kanne also broke the Kuemper career assist record in the win. With the win, Kuemper stays perfect during the season with a 7-0 record. The Knights are back in action on Saturday against Dowling Catholic.

The Tigers 4th quarter rally fell short on Friday after they pulled within 4 points in the final couple minutes after trailing by 22 points with 5:00 remaining. The Tigers clamped down on defense, using full court pressure to create turnovers that led to layups. Jared Mohr hit a pair of 3’s as the Tigers knocked down three of them in the final few minutes. Carroll had a chance after rebounding a missed free throw to pull within 2 or 1 but Bondurant Farrar blocked the three-point attempt. Bondurant Farrar extended the lead on the next possession and Carroll didn’t get within three until the final shot.
Early offensive struggles put Carroll in the hole. They scored 2 points in the first-five minutes of the 1st quarter and 3 points in the first-five minutes of the 2nd quarter. They trailed 14-9 at the end of the 1st quarter after a rally late in the quarter but were down 33-19 at half. Carroll had twelve turnovers in the 1st half but only one in the 2nd half.
Jared Mohr paced the Tigers with 18 points along with 3 blocks. Carter Essick and Trey Tassell both added 9 points and Mac Collison had 6 points and 3 steals.
The loss drops Carroll to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Raccoon River Conference.

The Ar-We-Va Rockets pick up a blowout win over Boyer Valley on Friday as they start the second half of their season. The game started close, but Ar-We-Va was able to pull away as the game went on. Ar-We-Va would hold on to a slight lead going to the second quarter at 11-8. The Rockets played great defense all game long. Ar-We-Va would grow their lead to 33-15 at the half. The lead continued to grow for Ar-We-Va in the second half as they would go on to win 64-41. Wyatt Ragalled recorded a team-high 20 points for the Rockets. Blayne Smith chipped in 14 points in the win. Smith also added six rebounds. Devon Ehlers added seven points in the win. With the win, Ar-We-Va improves to 5-2. The Rockets are back in action on Tuesday against Glidden-Ralston.

The Audubon Wheelers pick up their third win of the season as they knock off Riverside at home on Friday. The Wheelers would lead most of the game by double digits but had to hold off a run by Riverside late in the ball game. Audubon fell down early, 5-2 in the first quarter, but would end the quarter on a 13-0 run, taking a 15-5 lead. The Wheeler’s lead would grow in the second quarter as they built a large lead. Audubon would lead 33-19 at the half. Audubon struggled with turnovers in the third quarter as Riverside went to a full-court press. Riverside would cut into the Audubon lead, going to the fourth 41-34. Riverside would cut the Audubon lead to 45-41 early in the fourth quarter. Carson Wessel and Brody Schultes hit some shots late in the game to help Audubon grow their lead. The Wheelers would go on to win 52-43.
Audubon had two players in double figures. Brody Schultes and Carson Wessel each had 18 points in the win. Brody Weber chipped in six points off the bench for Audubon. Six different Wheelers scored in the game. With the win, Audubon improves to 3-3. The Wheelers are back in action on Monday against Red Oak.

Glidden-Ralston would trail 18-7 going to the second quarter. CAM’s lead would grow to 41-21 at the half. The Wildcats would fall down 58-31 going to the fourth, and they would go on to fall 64-45. Jonathan Bergmeier recorded a team-high 16 points for Glidden-Ralston. Colby Wallace chipped in 12 points in the loss. With the loss, Glidden-Ralston falls to 5-3. The Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders dropped their first game of the year to a talented Woodbine team on the road. The Crusaders started great on the offensive end as they would jump out to an early lead. CRB would lead 17-14 over Woodbine going to the second quarter. Woodbine would find their groove offensive as they added 18 points in the second quarter. CRB’s lead would go away as they would trail 32-29 at the half. Woodbine’s lead would grow in the third quarter, but the game stayed tight. The Crusaders would trail 49-43 going to the fourth quarter. CRB would come back in the fourth quarter as they outscore Woodbine. The Crusaders held Woodbine scoreless for the game’s last two minutes but would fall 58-57.
Cal Heydon led the Crusaders in scoring with 19 points. Bryce Lewis chipped in 12 points for the Crusaders in the loss. Caden Oswald was the third CRB player in double figures with 10 points. Ty Heydon recorded a team-high 10 rebounds for CRB. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 5-1. CRB is back in action on Monday against West Central Valley.

IKM-Manning dropped their third in a row in a disappointing home loss on Friday. The Wolves started slowly, falling behind 16-7 at the end of the 1st quarter but rallied in the 2nd quarter. The offense was humming, pouring in 24 points to lead 31-26 at half. The game kept see-sawing with Missouri Valley taking a 43-41 lead going to the 4th quarter. The IKM-Manning offense went quiet in the final stanza, scoring just 6 points as the Big Red pulled away.
Isaac Blankman had a big offensive game for the Wolves, finishing with 26 points. Ashton Ahrenholtz and Ben Ramsey both had 6 points. Brock Kusel led them with 9 rebounds with Ben Ramsey and Jace Starman both pulling down 6 rebounds. Ramsey added a team high 5 assists. Isaac Blankman, Luke Janssen, Ben Ramsey and Jace Starman all had 2 steals.
The Wolves fall to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Western Iowa Conference. They head to AHSTW on Tuesday.

Paton Churdan earned their second straight win, improving to 3-4 overall. The Rockets edged away slowly with a balanced offensive attack and a strong effort on the boards. The 3rd quarter allowed the Rockets to separate themselves, outscoring the Spartans 15-9. They led 30-25 at half so the extra cushion allowed them to control tempo in the 4th quarter and look for good shots.
Paton Churdan had two guys in double figures and nearly had four. They almost had a pair of guys with double-doubles. Phoenix Hartman paced the balanced offensive attack with 14 points with Cayden Stream adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. Bryce Stephenson nearly had a double-double with 9 points and 12 rebounds with Trevon Keely adding 9 points and 5 rebounds.
The Rockets improved to 3-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference and will step out of conference with a trip to Storm Lake St Mary’s on Tuesday.
