The Kuemper Knights pick up a big nonconference win on Thursday as they knock off Spencer at home. The Knights played great defense, applying pressure on the ball and forcing Spencer to work faster than they wanted to. Kuemper fell down early in the ball game as Spencer opened on a 5-0 run. The Knights would respond, going on an 11-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Knights only trailed once all game. At the end of the first quarter, Kuemper would lead 13-10. The Knights were also great on the offensive end. They added 18 points in the second quarter as they would take a 31-17 lead at the half. Coming out of the locker room, Kuemper picked up where they left off defensively. Kuemper held Spencer to two points in the third quarter as their lead would grow. The Knights would take a 40-19 lead going to the fourth quarter. Kuemper knocked down four threes in the fourth quarter as they would go on to win 54-31.

Kuemper had two players score in double digits. They were led by Elsa Tiefenthaler who had a team-high 21 points. Tiefenthaler also dished out five assists in the win. Karsyn Overmohle chipped in 11 points for the Knights. Cierra Pudenz got her first start of the season and recorded eight points. As a team, Kuemper recorded 16 assists. With the win, the Knights move to 3-4. The Knights are back in action on Saturday at St. Albert.

Alta-Aurelia At Ar-We-Va

Ar-We-Va battled hard but turnovers eventually led Alta-Aurelia to pull away and earn a comfortable win on Thursday. The Rockets hit three-threes late in the 1st half, pulling within 22 at half but scored 9 points in the 2nd half. The Warriors half-court trap was the difference, allowing Nora Peterson and Peyton Kies to get out and run as the Warriors scored over half their points at the rim.

The Warriors full court pressure allowed them to build an 8-0 lead but Ar-We-Va figured out how to attack it as the 1st quarter went on. They got several shots at the rim, and got to the free throw line. Gabby Hundling hit a free throw to get the Rockets on the board. Annalee Wittrock and Azaya Martinez had back-to-back baskets and Ar-We-Va was down 12-5. Hallie McCollough knocked down a jumper and Annalee Wittrock scored on a free throw jumper, cutting a 12 point deficit to 19-9. Wittrock and Gabby Hundling added free throws and Azaya Martinez beat the buzzer as the Rockets trailed 25-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. A Warrior’s 13-1 to open the 2nd quarter blew the game open, putting them up 38-14. Hallie McCollough drained a three and Gabby Hundling added another three cutting the deficit to 40-20. Hallie McCollough added another three and Azaya Martinez hit a three but Ar-We-Va trailed 48-26 at half. 

Azaya  Martinez added a three early in the 2nd half but Alta-Aurelia opened the 2nd half on a 23-3 run and cruised to a 85-35 win. 

Hallie McCollough, Gabby Hundling and Azaya Martinez all had 8 points to pace the Rockets along with 2 rebounds for each. Amber Ragaller had 6 points and Annalee Wittrock led them with 3 rebounds. Gabby Hundling and Amber Ragaller had a team high 3 steals each. 

Ar-We-Va falls to 2-2 overall and will  host Woodbine on Friday.

The Paton Churdan Rockets almost pulled out their first win of the season but fell at home to Colo Nesco. Paton Churdan held a lead at the half, 16-6. They would give up the lead in the second half, falling 37-36 on Thursday. Kaliyah Minnihan led the Rockets in scoring with 16 points. Ella Tasler chipped in eight points for Paton Churdan. The Rockets are back in action on Friday against CAM.
