Storm Lake St. Mary’s at Ar-We-Va

The Ar-We-Va Rockets pick up their second straight win as they come from behind to beat Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Monday. The Rockets would trail at the half 20-13. Ar-We-Va struggled with turnovers on offense, which led to them being down in the first half. In the second half, Ar-We-Va got going on the offense end as they outscored St. Mary’s 25-2 in the second half. The Rockets would make a big comeback as they went on to win 38-22 at home on Monday. Amber Ragaller and Gabbie Hundling each had 11 points to lead the Rockets. Hundling also pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. Azaya Martinez also had ten rebounds in the win. With the win, Ar-We-Va moves to 2-1. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday against Alta-Aurelia.

The East Sac County Raiders fell on the road Monday in Twin Lakes Conference action. The Raiders played well in the first and fourth quarters. To start the game, ESC opened on a 5-0 run. PAC would come back and take an early 8-5. The Indians would not give up the lead for the remainder of the game. The Raiders would be down 11-8 going to the second quarter. In the second quarter, East Sac would struggle with turnovers and beating PAC’s press defense. ESC would trail 27-10 at the half. In the second half, ESC was able to limit turnovers and handle the press better. Pocahontas would outscore ESC 17-11 in the third quarter as their lead would grow. Going to the fourth quarter, the Raiders would trail 44-21. ESC would go on to lose 61-37 on Monday.

East Sac did a great job rebounding in the loss, pulling down 46 as a team. Addisen Ehler and Kendall Quirk each had a team-high 11 points for the Raiders. As a team, ESC shot 27 percent for the field, going 13-48. Ehler pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds, while Quirk added ten. With the loss, ESC falls to 3-3. The Raiders are back in action on Friday against GTRA.

SE Valley At South Central Calhoun

South Central Calhoun earned their 4th win of the season, rolling to a 72-7 win at home on Monday. The Titans put the game away in the 1st quarter, using a 35-0 run between the 1st and 2nd quarters to lead 38-2. The Titans were up 28-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. Their full court pressure defense and their halfcourt trapping 1-3-1 created turnovers, leading to easy baskets. The Titans had 31 steals, helping them shoot 31-58 from the field. They hit several threes in the 1st half, finishing 7-18 from three point range. South Central Calhoun used several defenses, working on sets they may need later in the season. The lead was 46-3 heading into halftime. 

Bre Patterson helped set the tempo for the game working hard on the glass, finding teammates cutting to the basket. They were able to get great looks, missing several early but they started to hit shots midway through the 1st quarter. Patterson scored to put the Titans up 2-0 and Blair Schleisman hit a free throw, making it 3-0. After a Jaguars bucket, Blair Schleisman made a layup and the Titans were off running. Adlen Wheelock hit back-to-back threes and Macie Dorman scored a pair of baskets, making it 15-2. 

Bre Patterson led the Titans with 23 points, adding 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals. Blair Schleisman had 16 points with 11 steals. Macie Dorman scored 11 points and 5 steals, Adlen Wheelock had 10 points and 4 assists. Sadie Wheelock finished with 8 points and 5 steals. The Titans sit 4-3 heading into a road game at Spencer on Tuesday.

The Paton Churdan Rockets are still searching for their first win as they fell on the road Monday at Tri-Center. The Rockets struggled on offense in the first half. Going to the second quarter, PC would trail 13-4. Paton Churdan only managed two points in the second quarter as they would trail 30-6 at the half. PC made adjustments in the second half as they were able to knock down more shots. Tri-Center would outscore the Rockets 13-11 in the third quarter. Going to the fourth quarter, PC would trail 43-17. PC would go on to lose 51-25 on Monday. Kaliyah Minnihan led the Rockets in scoring with 14 points. Grace Cullum chipped in six points in the loss. With the loss, PC falls to 0-5. The Rockets are back in action on Thursday against Colo-Nesco.
