The Kuemper Knights dropped a game on the road to Harlan on Tuesday as they struggled to shoot. Kuemper fell down early in the first quarter as they were outscored by ten points. The Knights would trail 25-15 going to the second quarter. Kuemper’s defense picked up in the second quarter. The Knights would be down at the half, 41-25 to Harlan. The second half was a lot closer, but the Knights were unable to make a comeback. They would trail 59-41, going to the fourth. Harlan would outscore Kuemper 17-16 in the fourth quarter. The Knights would go on to lose 76-54.

The Knights had two players in double figures, Charlotte Hackfort and Elsa Tiefenthaler, each recording 14 points in the loss. Kaylie Simons chipped in eight points for the Knights. Addy Anthofer recorded a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. The Knights shot 8-28 from the three-point line in the loss. With the loss, Kuemper falls to 2-3. The Knights are back in action on Friday against Red Oak.

A strong start for Carroll wasn’t able to hold up as Carroll went cold from the field, shooting 21.6% from the field as ADM closed the 1st half on a 4-0 run, then opened the 2nd half with a 8-0 run, finishing the 3rd quarter up 26-22 after they outscored Carroll 16-2 in the quarter. Carroll tried to battle back with a strong defensive effort but weren’t able to chip away as ADM grabbed a twelve point lead in the 4th quarter. 

Ali Kock hit a three for Carroll, giving them a 3-0 lead as they built an 8-0 with a three from Katelyn Aden and a bucket from Olivia Rowedder. ADM pulled within 8-3 but Katelyn Aden answered with a three and Analia Ayala pushed it to 14-3 with a three. Carroll led 14-4 at the end of the 1st quarter. Olivia Rowedder pushed the lead to 18-6 early in the 2nd quarter with a bucket and a free throw. Ali Kock hit a shot inside and Carroll led 20-6 late in the half. ADM scored the final four points of the half and Carroll led 20-10 at half. 

Chloe Kock stopped the struggles momentarily in the 3rd after ADM scored the first-eight points of the 3rd quarter. Her bucket put Carroll up 22-18 but ADM rattled off twelve straight and never looked back. 

Olivia Rowedder had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Katelyn Aden added 7 points with 8 steals, Chloe Kock had 7 rebounds and Ali Kock finished with 5 points and 4 rebounds. Carroll falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Raccoon River Conference. They head to Storm Lake on KIKD 106.7 on Saturday.

Paton Churdan at Ar-We-Va

The Ar-We-Va Rockets got off to a hot start and were able to hold on to a victory over Paton Churdan despite a late comeback by PC. Ar-We-Va led the whole game and jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, taking a 16-4 lead over Paton Churdan. In the second quarter, Ar-We-Va would grow their lead to 19-4, causing Paton Churdan to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Paton Churdan would cut the lead to 21-15. Ar-We-Va led at the half 24-15. In the second half, Paton Churdan was able to keep it close but never went over the six-point hump to fully come back in the ball game. Ar-We-Va would lead 32-25 going to the fourth quarter. The game would remain close most of the quarter, but Ar-We-Va was able to go on a late run to extend their lead, and they went on to win 43-28.

Azaya Martinez led Ar-We-Va in scoring as she had a team-high 15 points. Gabbie Hundling was also in double figures with ten points. Hundling was great on the defensive end as she pulled down 11 rebounds. Hundling also recorded four assists. For Paton Churdan, Kaliyah Minnihan had 13 points to lead the Rockets. Ella Tasler chipped in six points. With the win, Ar-We-Va improved to 1-1. The Rockets are back in action on Friday against Exira-EHK. The loss drops Paton Churdan to 0-4. The Rockets are back in action on Friday against Coon Rapids-Bayard.

The East Sac County Raiders fell at home on Tuesday as they played well against a good Storm Lake team. The first quarter was close as ESC would trail early. Storm Lake would hold on to a 20-13 lead going to the second quarter. In the second quarter, Storm Lake was able to build their lead as they outscored ESC 26-15. The Raiders would trail 46-28 at the half. Coming out of the locker room, ESC would find a groove offensively. The Raiders would add 16 points in the third quarter but would trail 64-44 going to the fourth. The Raiders were unable to come back in the fourth as they would go on to lose 81-57.

The Raiders shot the ball well during the game, going 11-24 from behind the three-point line. Makenna Steiger led ESC in scoring with 22 points in the loss. Sarah Bontrager added 13 points for the Raiders. Kendall Quirk had a great game on the glass, as she had a team-high eight rebounds. As a team, the Raiders recorded 24 rebounds. With the loss, ESC falls to 2-1. The Raiders are back in action on Thursday vs. OABCIG.

On Tuesday, the IKM-Manning Wolves pick up an exciting double-overtime victory over Logan-Magnolia at home. The Wolves fell down early in the second half but were able to make adjustments that contributed to a big comeback. IKM-Manning started the game great as they came out and took a 14-10 lead going to the second quarter over LoMa. The Panther would outscore IKM-Manning in the second quarter 13-7 to crawl back into the game. Going into the half, IKM-Manning was down 23-21. The IKM-Manning offense would struggle again in the third quarter as they only scored seven points. The Logan-Magnolia lead would grow to 33-28 going to the fourth quarter. IKM-Manning was able to find some offense in the fourth quarter. The Wolves would outscore LoMa 14-9 in the quarter as the game would go to overtime tied 42-42. The first overtime was a wash as we were tied again, sending us to a second overtime. The game would be tied at 51-51. In the second over time, IKM-Manning would come out victorious as they scored 11 points to win 62-60.

IKM-Manning had two players in double figures in the win. Anna Stangl recorded a team-high 24 points on 7-13 shooting for the field. Keagan Eischeid chipped in 13 points for the Wolves. Stangl also went 9-10 from the free-throw line. Taylor Beckendorf and Eischeid each recorded eight rebounds in the win. With the win, IKM-Manning improves to 2-3. The Wolves are back in action on Saturday against Exira-EHK.

Exira-EHK built an early lead and then held off a 2nd half rally by the Wildcats who came out and played well in the 3rd quarter. The Spartans 19-6 after the 1st quarter and 30-18 at half. The Wildcats held the Spartans to 9 points in the 3rd quarter, pulling within 8. Taryn Petersen led three Spartans in double figures with 19 points. Riley Miller and Harlee Fahn both had 10 points and Kadence Sporrer finished with 8 points. Kassidy Wenck paced the Wildcats with 12 points with Allison Snyder had 11 points and Olivia Squibb finished with 9 points. 

The Spartans improved to 2-1 overall and in the Rolling Valley Conference. They host Ar-We-Va on Friday. Glidden Ralston slips to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Rolling Valley. The Wildcats entertain Greene County on Thursday.

South Central Calhoun did a nice job getting to the free throw line and making free throws, helping them rally for a road win on Tuesday. The Titans trailed 17-13 after the 1st quarter but held the Lynx to single digits in the final three quarters. The defense held Webster City to 2 points in the 2nd quarter, allowing them to build a 22-19 lead at half. South Central Calhoun hit 16-21 from the free throw line, helping to offset a slow night from the field. They shot 25.5% from the field, going 5-19 from beyond the arc. The defense finished with 17 steals. They extended their lead in the 3rd quarter, leading by 6 going to the final stanza.

Blair Schleisman had a strong night with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Bre Patterson had 12 points and 4 rebounds, Ailey Korleski added 7 points and Maci Dorman scored 6 points. Sadie Wheelock continues to grow in the post with 5 points along with 5 rebounds and 7 steals. The Titans improved to 2-3 overall. They host GTRA on Friday.
