Girls Basketball Results Friday, December 6th

Kuemper At Denison Schleswig

The Kuemper Knights picked up their second win of the season as they traveled to Denison-Schleswig on Friday. The Knights never trailed in the game as they were able to build a double-digit lead early. Elsa Tiefenthaler was great in the second half, as she scored 11 quick points in the first quarter. The Knights would take an early 11-1 lead over Denison-Schleswig. Kuemper would build their lead to 21-6 going to the second quarter. Through their first three games of the season, Kuemper has been searching for a second scorer to get the basketball to. Kaylie Simons might have been that play tonight, as she scored 11 points in the second quarter. The Knights would take a 37-15 lead at the half.

Kuemper grew its lead in the third quarter as the running clock kicked in. Senior Karsyn Overmohle shot the ball great again for the Knights; she hit two big threes in the quarter. Kuemper would lead 58-24 going to the fourth quarter. Kuemper was able to work girls into the game who don’t see a lot of time to get them valuable minutes going forward. The Knights would go on to win 66-38. 

Kuemper had two players in double figures, Elsa Tiefenthaler and Kaylie Simons. Tiefenthaler had a team-high 20 points, and Simons chipped in 19. The Knights were 10-26 from behind the arc. Tiefenthaler pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and recorded three assists. With the win, Kuemper improved to 2-2. The Knights are back in action on Tuesday against Harlan.

Ali Kock hit a three with 0:12 left in regulation and Katelyn Aden and Ali Kock helped stop Carlisle from scoring, sending the game into overtime. The Tigers led 56-51 early in the overtime but Carlisle took control, going on to win 62-58. The overtime was similar to the 1st quarter with Carroll taking a 9-4 lead midway through but not scoring again the rest of the quarter to trail 10-9. The Wildcats used the end of the 1st quarter run to take control of the game in the 2nd quarter, building a 14-point lead. Carroll fought their way back, shifting to a man-to-man defense, getting some stops and closing the half on a 10-2 run to trail 29-23. Carlisle maintained control in the 3rd quarter but Carroll began to fight back early in the 4th quarter. Analia Ayala had a few threes, Katelyn Aden and Ali Kock found their rhythm on offense, giving the Tigers a chance. Ali Kock hit a three to tie the game and the Tigers held Carlisle scoreless for the final 0:12 of regulation to send it to overtime. Carroll scored on their first-two possessions of overtime but Carlisle closed the game on a 11-2 run. Carroll had a chance, down two with the ball with 0:25 left but wasn’t able to score and Carlisle wrapped up the game.

Ali Kock had a team high 18 points with 7 rebounds, Katelyn Aden added 16 points and 5 assists and Analia Ayala added 9 points. Olivia Rowedder finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds.

The loss drops Carroll to 2-1. They host ADM on Tuesday.

Glidden Ralston took control in the 2nd half and slowly pulled away after Paton Churdan had several chances to take the lead late in the 1st half. The game was a tale of quarters in the 1st half with Glidden Ralston building a 6-0 and 10-1 lead to start the game. Allison Snyder, Kassidy Wenck and BreAnn Hartwigsen all scored a basket, helping the Wildcats go up 6-0. After a Kaliyah Minnihan hit a free throw for Paton Churdan Allison Snyder and Kassidy Wenck scored for Glidden Ralston and they led 10-1. The Wildcats defense was creating turnovers early, leading to easy buckets as Glidden Ralston led 12-2 after the 1st quarter. Foul trouble began to add up for the Wildcats and Kaliyah Minnihan heated up for Paton Churdan. She scored all 14 of their first half points, hitting a three, followed by three buckets inside to start the 2nd quarter. Her 9-0 run pulled Paton Churdan within 12-11 before Allison Snyder scored for Glidden Ralston, making it 14-11. Kaliyah Minnihan tied the game with a three and the Rockets had a few chances to take the lead but couldn’t and Kassidy Wenck gave Glidden Ralston a 18-14 lead at half with two steals and baskets in the final 0:13.

Allison Snyder and Olivia Squibb took control in the 3rd quarter for Glidden Ralston. Snyder scored four points and Squibb had six points as the Wildcats went on a 10-5 run to lead 28-19. Kaliyah Minnihan pulled the Rockets within 28-21 but Kate Bergmeier and Kassidy Wenck stretched the Wildcats lead to 32-21. Back-to-back buckets from Olivia Squibb and Allison Snyder pushed the lead to 39-25 as the Rockets went on a 15-0 run to blow the game open.

Allison Snyder had 20 points and 11 rebounds with 3 steals with Kassidy Wenck adding 12 points and 10 steals. Olivia Squibb finished with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Ashlynn Tigges had 9 rebounds and Kate Bergmeier had 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Kaliyah Minnihan had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Paton Churdan, Ella Tasler adding 6 points and 8 rebounds and Grace Cullum had 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

Glidden Ralston is 1-0 heading into a road game at Woodward Granger on Monday. Paton Churdan falls to 0-3 and heads to Ar-We-Va on Tuesday.

The East Sac defense was strong in the 1st half and the offense got going in the 2nd quarter as they built a 22-10 halftime lead. The Raiders held the Titans to 2 points in the 1st quarter, then scored 18 points in the 2nd quarter.  South Central Calhoun responded in the 3rd quarter, hitting a buzzer beater to pull within 30-28. The game stayed tight in the 4th quarter with Makenna Steiger hitting a huge three for the Raiders with 4:30 left, putting them up 36-32. Blair Schleisman kept the Titans in striking range, answering with a three of her own. The Titans trailed 36-35 with 4:00 left. After Addisen Ehler put the Raiders up 38-35 the Titans tied the game with a three. Makenna Steiger came up big for the Titans, hitting a clutch bucket for the second time, giving the Raiders a 40-38 lead with 2:30 left. The Raiders extended the lead to two possessions on a Sarah Bontrager steal and assist to Kendall Quirk, putting the Raiders up 42-38.

The Raiders had three players in double figures with Kendall Quirk leading them with 13 points to go with 13 rebounds. She added 3 blocks. Addisen Ehler had 12 points and 13 rebounds with 4 assists and 3 steals. Makenna Steiger had 10 points with 3 assists. Jordin Carroll added 10 rebounds.

Bre Patterson led the Titans with 14 points, Blair Schleisman added 11 points and 4 assists. The Titans got 10 rebounds and 5 points from Sadie Wheelock with Adlen Wheelock adding 6 points and Macie Dorman dishing out 7 assists.

The Raiders improved to 2-0 and will host Storm Lake on Tuesday. South Central Calhoun falls to 1-2 and will head to Manson NW Webster on Tuesday.

The Coon Rapids Bayard defense was the difference again as the Crusaders earned a low scoring win to improve to 2-1. The offense did enough, though they struggled from the free throw line, hitting 11-27. The struggles at the line, led to struggles around the basket with the defense giving them plenty of opportunities, finishing with 33 steals. The game was tied at 10 at the end of the 1st quarter and Coon Rapids Bayard trailed 15-14 at half before blowing the game open with a 16-5 3rd quarter. Coon Rapids Bayard held the Cougars to two points in the final stanza, helping them cruise to a win.

Anna Hart was incredible, finishing with 14 steals to go with 12 points and 5 rebounds.  Malia Clayburg had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 blocks. Ella Heithoff had 6 points and 3 steals and Aubrey Hofbauer had 6 assists and 4 steals.

The Crusaders are 2-1 heading into a road game at Paton Churdan on Friday.

IKM-Manning couldn’t recover from a tough 2nd quarter, getting outscored 16-2 to trail 29-13 at half. The Wolves played well to open the game, trailing 13-11 at the end of the 1st quarter. The defense was able to force turnovers, coming up with 14 steals. They fought back in the 2nd half, hitting some shots, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-7 to trail 36-30. Riverside struggled from the free throw line, hitting 6-21 but pulled away in the 4th quarter, creating turnovers and hitting several threes.

Anna Stangl had 15 points and 7 rebounds with Oriah Meiners adding 12 points and 4 steals. Laynie Gawley had 7 points and 5 rebounds and Keagan Eischeid finished with 5 points and 3 steals.

The Wolves fell to 1-3 on the season and will host LoMa on Tuesday.

Taryn Petersen poured in 40 points and Exira-EHK used a strong 2nd quarter to grab the lead on their way to their first win of the season. The Spartans trailed 11-9 entering the 2nd quarter but took a 26-22 lead into half. Petersen was able to get on a roll in the 2nd quarter, scoring 10 of her 17 points at half. Harlee Fahn had a couple buckets in the quarter and Riley Miller hit a three. Taryn Petersen scored 15 in the 3rd quarter, helping the Spartans maintain the lead, going up 44-38.

Riley Miller added 9 points with a pair of big threes in the 4th quarter and Harlee Fahn added 6 points.

The win moves the Spartans to 1-1 on the season. The Spartans host Glidden Ralston on Tuesday.
