Kuemper looked like a team locked in at the beginning of the season as they exploded out of the locker room, building a 13-0 lead against a good Carroll team that tried to respond but couldn’t stop the barrage of threes from the Knights in the 1st quarter. The Knights hit eight shots from beyond the arc in the 1st quarter and led 33-13 going to the 2nd quarter. 

Tregan Beiter put Kuemper up 2-0 as the Knights sped the tempo up from the start, using their ability to dribble-drive and kick to open shooters. Jack Badding and Brock Badding hit back-to-back threes and Griffin Glynn pushed the lead to 13-0 with a pair of baskets and a free throw. The Tigers were able to get in the lane but were leaving shots short at the rim. Carter Essick put the Tigers on the board with a bucket but Griffin Glynn hit another three, making it 16-2. Stone Sibenaller knocked down a three for Carroll but Tregan Beiter answered. A Mac Collison bucket pulled Carroll within 19-7 but Brock Badding hit a three followed by a basket from Griffin Glynn and a three from Jack Badding. The Knights led 27-9 on their way to a 33-13 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Carroll’s offense picked up in the 2nd quarter behind Stone Sibenaller but Kuemper continued to score. Tregan Beiter led a spurt for Kuemper, helping them build a 46-24 lead on their way to a 56-33 lead at  half. 

The Tigers came out in the 2nd half scoring at the rim and playing aggressively. They weren’t able to cut into the deficit as Jack Badding and Dylan Schon kept the Knights rolling on the offensive end. Kuemper took a 77-50 lead into the 4th quarter. 

Griffin Glynn had a huge game on offense, going 9-11 for Kuemper, finishing with 24 points, leading five Knights in double figures. Brock Badding added 16 points with Tregan Beiter adding 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Jack Badding added 12 points with a team high 10 rebounds and 8 assists, Brock Badding had 6 rebounds and Dylan Schon finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Carson Kanne dished out 7 assists. 

Stone Sibenaller paced Carroll with 23 points. Jared Mohr added 9 points and 6 rebounds, Trey Tassell finished with 6 points and 9 rebounds and Carter Essick and Mac Collison both had 6 points. 

The Knights are 1-0 heading into Friday’s game at Denison Schleswig on KKRL while Carroll starts 0-1 with a road trip to Carlisle on Friday on KCIM.

Coon Rapids Bayard At Ar-We-Va

Coon Rapids pulled away in the 4th quarter, rallying from down 1 point with 5:30 remaining to win by 12. The Rockets defense kept them in the game early until their offense got going in the 3rd, helping Ar-We-Va to take a lead, scoring 17 points. Cal Heydon, who scored his 1,000th career point in the game, took over in the 4th quarter, finishing with 32 points to go with 10 rebounds. Ty Heydon was a big part of the rally, helping on the glass, finishing with 15 rebounds. The game was tight most of the game with Coon Rapids Bayard leading 10-9 at the end of the 1st quarter and 23-15 at half. Blayne Smith was huge for the Rockets, especially in the 2nd half. He led them with 18 points to go with 13 rebounds. 

Parker Hays added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the Crusaders with Bryce Lewis scoring 6 points. 

Tyson Von Glan had 8 points and 7 rebounds for Ar-We-Va, Wyatt Ragaller had 7 points, Derek Thomsen 6 points and Devon Ehlers had 5 rebounds. 

Coon Rapids Bayard moved to 2-0 on the season as they prepare to host CAM on Friday. Ar-We-Va starts 0-1 and heads to West Harrison on Friday.

The Wildcats were sharp defensively, helping to generate offense as they hit five-threes in the 1st quarter building a 23-5 lead. The offense struggled early until the defensive pressure created some turnovers leading to easy buckets. Both teams struggled to make shots in the 2nd quarter as the defenses took over. Glidden Ralston led 29-11 at half. 

After a tough shooting 2nd quarter the Wildcats picked things up coming out of the locker room, hitting four-threes in the 3rd quarter. The defense was even better, holding the Hawkeyes scoreless to lead 43-11 going to the 4th quarter. The Wildcats defense kept up the great play in the final stanza, allowing only 2 points as they cruised to a 52-13 win to start the season. 

Jonathan Bergmeier had a team high 25 points with Colby Wallace just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Lucas Christian added 7 rebounds with Carson Peters and Dawson Majerus both had 5 points. 

Glidden Ralston heads to Paton Churdan 1-0 on Friday on KIKD 106.7.

Audubon earned a nice bounce back win to open the conference season on Tuesday. The Wheelers knocked off Underwood on the road, getting double figures from Brody Schultes with 18 points and Brody Weber with 13 points. The defense was sharp, holding the Eagles to  15 points in the 2nd half, leading the rally. Audubon trailed 21-10 at the end of the 1st quarter but pulled within 33-27 at half. The defense locked in the 2nd half outscoring the Eagles 29-15 in the 2nd half. The Wheelers had balanced scoring behind Schultes and Weber with Araon Olsen and Carson Wessel both had 7 points and Sullivan McClain added 6 points. 

The Wheelers are 1-1 on the season. They host Treynor on Friday.

East Sac earned a nice win to open the season in an offensive ballgame, using their quickness against the bigger team from Woodbury Central. Their quickness allowed them to get to the lane and kick to open shooters. Ashler Lawler had a huge game for the Raiders, leading them with 23 points. He was critical in the 2nd quarter as the Raiders were battling foul trouble. He hit a pull up jumper and was 2-2 from beyond the arc. The Raiders had built a 23-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, having several players hit threes. Woodbury Central grabbed the lead in the 2nd quarter, attacking the Raiders off the drive, then using their size inside. East Sac trailed by 2 at half but felt good about where they were. 

The 2nd half was tight with neither team leading by more than 4 points. Both teams held the lead several times with East Sac using four-threes in the 4th quarter to get the upper hand. Zach Jacobsen hit a two of them and Sam Julin and Carson Schmitt both added a three. East Sac finished the game hitting 14-24 from beyond the arc. Their strong passing helped setting up their shooters. The Raiders only had seven turnovers. 

Ashler Lawler had 23 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Sam Julin and Jack Gullett both had 15 points with Julin adding 6 assists and Gullett had 3 steals. Carson Schmitt had 9 points, Zach Jacobsen added 7 points and Landon Sporrer had 4 assists. 

East Sac is 1-0 and will head to South Central Calhoun on Friday.

Paton Churdan played well, taking away some good building blocks, staying close into the 4th quarter before foul trouble helped the Bulldogs pull away. The Rockets had a pair of starters foul out and had to rely on inexperienced players, who got valuable playing time and experience. Bruce Stephenson had a nifty double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Cayden Stream led them with 12 points. Trevon Keely finished with 9 points and Kinnick Steiml added 7 points. 

The Rockets start the season 0-1 and will host Glidden Ralston on KIKD 106.7 on Friday.

IKM-Manning led after three quarters but fell in double overtime to open the season on Tuesday. The Wolves trailed by one at the end of the 1st quarter but outscored Tri Center 23-20 in the 2nd quarter and led 38-36 at half. Ben Ramsey had a big night offensively, leading the Wolves with 30 points to go with 10 assists. He led three guys in double figures with Isaac Blankman adding 18 points and Brock Kusel finished with 12 points. The Wolves kept the pressure up in the 3rd quarter building a 58-51 leading heading to the final stanza. Tri Center, which just won the State Football championship, fought back in the 4th quarter, clamping down on defense. They held the Wolves to 8 points, allowing them to tie the game at 66 at the end of regulation. Both teams scored 6 points in the 1st overtime with Tri Center edging ahead in the 2nd overtime on their way to a 80-76 win. The Wolves struggled on the boards, finishing with 13 rebounds, led by Brock Kusel with 5. The defense ended the night with 8 steals with Ben Ramsey having a team high 3. 

The loss starts the Wolves 0-1 as they head to Panorama on Thursday on 93.7 KKRL.

South Central Calhoun was dominant on both ends of the floor on Tuesday, holding South Hamilton to single digits in three quarters while scoring 20 or more points in all but the 1st quarter. They built a 14-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter but pulled away by half. They poured in 24 points in the 2nd quarter getting big offensive nights from Cole Higgins with 26 points, Garrett Kraus with 15 points and Andrew Anderson with 11 points. The defense held South Hamilton to 6 points, building a 38-14 at half. South Hamilton responded, coming out after halftime. They scored 23 points in the 3rd quarter but South Central Calhoun adjusted on defense, holding them to 4 points in the 4th quarter. The offense kept clicking for the Titans scoring 20 points in both quarters. Evan Myers added 9 points and Cade Higgins had 6 points. 

South Central Calhoun sits 1-0 with a home game against East Sac on Friday.
