Season recaps of the KCIM Sports Rewind All-Volleyball Team

Volleyball 

Honorable Mention 

Lauren Hulsing- Glidden Ralston 

Hulsing wrapped up a terrific career with another strong season for the Wildcats. She helped lead a young team through the season, giving advice when needed and setting a good example. She led the Wildcats with 177 kills while hitting .176. She had 34 of the Wildcats 51 blocks. 

 

Ashlynn Tigges- Glidden Ralston 

Tigges was critical for the Wildcats this season, helping a young back row, leading them with 256 digs. She helped a team that suffered numerous injuries and was forced to move girls around. Her steadiness helped the team improve late in the season. Tigges was second on the Wildcats with 112 kills while leading the teams with 43 aces. 

 

Grace Carroll- IKM-Manning 

The junior had a tremendous all-around season as an undersized middle. She was third on the Wolves in kills with 140, hitting .137 and finished 2nd on the team with 41 blocks. Her 271 digs ranked second on the team and she tied for 3rd on the team with 17 aces. Carroll does everything well in every aspect and is poised to be a big part of an experienced team next season. 

 

Karlee Arp- IKM-Manning 

Arp continues to grow in her second season as the team’s setter. She is a strong player in every aspect, allowing the Wolves to use a 5-1 offensive system. She finished the season with 612 assists along with 44 kills. Arp added 176 digs and 16 blocks, ranking 5th on the team. She tied for 3rd on the team with 17 aces, serving at a 93.4% clip. Arp is a strong vocal leader on the team, helping keep the team positive. 

 

Alexa Holm- South Central Calhoun 

Holm closed out a strong career with another good season for the Titans. She led a strong back row with 379 digs and was good in serve receive. Holm became one of the best servers in the area, having 51 aces, ranking 2nd on the team. She served at 87.9% efficiency. 

 

Anna Larsen- Audubon

The junior stepped into the setter role for the Wheelers this season and performed well. She ended the year with 496 assists while adding 32 kills. She was second on the team in digs with 218 and third on the team in blocks with 22. Larsen finished the season with 30 aces, third on the team with a 92.8% efficiency. 

 

Emily Puck- Carroll  

Puck had a strong senior season in her first campaign as the varsity setter. She finished the season with 675 assists, helping the Tigers triple their win total from last season. Puck added 163 digs, ranking fourth on the team. She served at a 95% efficiency with 26 aces, leading the Tigers. 

 

Marasyn Wittrock- Carroll 

Wittrock had a strong season in the back row, using her tremendous speed to cover a lot of ground. She helped Carroll continue to grow, providing good leadership to a young core that returns some strong young back row players next season. Wittrock had a strong season at the service line with 22 aces and a 99.0% efficiency. 

 

Riley Miller- Exira-EHK 

Miller helped the Spartans to the Rolling Valley Conference regular season championship this season with just one loss. She split time at setter with Brooklyn Flathers, still finishing with 184 assists along with 31 kills, hitting .181. Miller added 89 digs and 34 aces. 

 

Brooklyn Flathers- Exira-EHK

Flathers led the Spartans in assists this season as part of a 6-2 offensive system. She had 232 assists, leading the team, adding 64 digs. Flathers finished with 93.5% serving efficiency, helping the Spartans to their first winning season since 2016-2017. 

 

3rd Team 

Anna Stangl- IKM-Manning 

Stangl became a leader for IKM-Manning this season, taking her play as a libero to the next level. She paced the team with 373 digs, doing a nice job getting the ball to her setter in good shape in serve receive and digs. Her growth helped a still young team make a big jump this season. Stangl is one of the best servers for the Wolves, helping them to some of their biggest runs, leading them with 27 aces and a 94.2% efficiency. 

 

Addisyn Bandow- IKM-Manning 

Bandow took her game to another level as a sophomore, becoming a strong hitter on the outside. She tied for the team lead in kills with 252 and a .285 efficiency. Her 32 blocks ranked 4th on the team while she contributed 11 kills on a 94.1% efficiency. Bandow is one of the most explosive young hitters in the area.

 

 

 

Amelia Cook- Coon Rapids Bayard 

Cook exploded onto the scene this season, earning Player of the Game in her second match of the season.  She did a nice job all season feeding her hitters, finishing with 639 assists, helping the team hit .164. She added 45 kills on a .228 efficiency. Cook added 157 digs, ranking 5th on the team. Though she is a freshman, she didn’t play like it this season, showing her strong understanding of the game. 

 

Anna Hart- Coon Rapids Bayard 

Hart continues to grow as a libero, playing her second season in the role. She paced the Crusaders with 421 digs, showing a strong knack of reading hitters and being in the right spot. She puts the ball in good position for Cook to set her hitters. Hart is a strong leader, helping a team that didn’t have a senior have a strong season. She added 27 aces, serving 86.6% efficiency. 

 

Olivia Rowedder- Carroll 

Rowedder closed out a strong career at Carroll with a very good season, helping the Tigers finish the season with 18 wins. She finished the season, leading the Tigers in kills with 267 while hitting .135. She was third on the team with 30 blocks and 169 digs. She added 16 aces for a team that served at 91.8% efficiency. Olivia was the emotional leader for Carroll. 

 

Kolbi Peter- Kuemper

The freshman was terrific this season, having 206 kills on the season while hitting .152. She showed she is an explosive hitter while having the ability to change it up with touch when called for. Peter added 39 blocks, 67 digs and 31 aces, showing she is a capable player all the way around. Her future is going to be exciting to watch. 

 

Katelyn Schmitt- East Sac 

The junior became a threat for East Sac, helping take pressure off Addisen Ehler. She finished the season with 149 kills, hitting .104. Some of her best games helped the Raiders to huge conference wins or weekend tournament wins. Schmitt added 204 digs while leading the teams with 49 aces. She will be a focal point for the Raiders next season. 

 

Jordin Carroll- East Sac 

Carroll stepped her way into the setters role this season, allowing the Raiders to move other players to different positions. She solidified the position, finishing the season with 667 assists, helping the team finish with a .198 efficiency. Her 159 digs ranked fourth on the team. She served a 94.2% efficiency, ending the season with 16 aces. 

 

2nd Team 

Karsyn Overmohle- Kuemper 

Overmohle was huge for the Knights this season, helping several young hitters have strong seasons. She finished the season with 406 assists, ranking second on the team. Overmohle was one of the most aggressive servers in the area, finishing with 65 aces, second on the team. The senior added 167 digs, showing she was a strong player all the way around. 

 

Brooke Rohe- Kuemper 

Rohe had a tremendous senior season, becoming one of the best back row players in the area. She was smooth, teaming with Kaylie Simons and others to give Kuemper a strong back row. She finished the season with 214 digs, ranking third on the team. Rohe was very good in serve receive and digging, helping the Knights hit .209. 

 

Mariah Heuton- Kuemper 

Heuton was fantastic for the Knights as a freshman, hitting .203 while finishing with 253 kills, ranking second on the team. She has the ability to hit for power or place the ball where she needs to. Her talents helped the Knights qualify for the State Tournament, sharing a conference title. Her 45 blocks was one of the top totals in the area this season, ranking her fourth on the team. 

 

Katelyn Aden- Carroll 

Aden had a strong comeback year for the Tigers, finishing second in kills, with 254 kills and a .128 efficiency. She was strong in the back row, ranking second on the team with 256 digs, nearly 100 more than the third highest number for Carroll. Her 20 blocks ranked her fourth on the team. The senior was a strong server, finishing with 24 aces and a 94.1% efficiency.

 

Taryn Petersen- Exira-EHK 

The sophomore was terrific this season, helping the Spartans to a Rolling Valley Conference Championship and a 15-6 record overall. Her athleticism allowed her to shine all over the court. She finished the season second on the team in kills with 169 with a .268 efficiency. Petersen added 161 digs, oftentimes making plays well off the court, due to her great effort and speed. She had 16 blocks, second on the team. Her 48 aces were a team high. 

 

Jaelynn Petersen- Exira-EHK 

Petersen was a dominating factor at the net for the Spartans, helping them to the Rolling Valley Conference Title, going 7-1 in the league. The junior had several huge matches, finishing with 15 or more kills, helping her finish with a team high 214 kills with a .241 efficiency. Petersen led the Spartans in blocks with 43, adding 131 digs, ranking third on the team. She is an aggressive server, finishing with 35 aces, ranking second  on the Spartans. 

 

Keagan Eischeid- IKM-Manning 

Eischeid exploded onto the scene in her much anticipated freshman season. She showed the ability to do everything well, giving the Wolves several options on offense, helping them win 14 matches this season. The lefty finished tied for the team lead in kills with 252, hitting .185. She added 29 assists, hitting out of the right side, helping the Wolves  if Arp was pulled out of position or had to take the second ball. Her 43 blocks led the team and she was third on the team in digs with 251. Eischeid added 25 aces ranking second on the team. 

 

Norah Riedesel- South Central Calhoun 

Riedesel capped a strong career with another tough season as the Titans setter. She had 718 assists, though she missed seven matches. She added 40 kills, having a knack of dumping the ball into the donut or left front of the defense at key times. Riedesel is good in the back row, adding 145 digs while picking up 13 blocks at the net. The Titans are an aggressive serving team and Riedesel fits that style, finishing with 34 aces on a 96.9% efficiency. 

 

1st Team

Kaylie Simons- Kuemper

Simons is an elite libero and tremendous leader for the Knights. She is one of the most irreplaceable players in the area. Her knack for reading hitters and being in the right place is special. She is strong in both serve receive and digs and is outstanding at covering at the net. Simons led the Knights and the area in digs with 610 while adding 75 assists. She is smooth setting the ball when the Knights are out-of-system. Her strengths also reach into serving, finishing with 40 aces on a 94.0% efficiency. The junior will be back next season to help lead a loaded Knights team. 

 

Elsa Tiefenthaler- Kuemper

Tiefenthaler had a tremendous season, helping Kuemper advance to the State Tournament. She is an elite setter and all-around volleyball player. Her speed and quickness allow her to get to almost any pass and her hands allow her to set hittable balls. She does an excellent job moving the ball around, finding the hot hitters while keeping defenses off-balance. She led the Knights with 548 assists, adding 48 kills with a .197 efficiency. Tiefenthaler is also strong in the back row with 243 digs, ranking second on the team. Her jump serve is at times unpassable, finishing with 87 aces and a 90.1% efficiency. Her competitiveness sets her apart from most athletes. 

 

Addisen Ehler- East Sac 

Ehler was fantastic in her senior season, taking her game to another level. She carried the Raiders offense early in the season and was the focal point for them and their opponents defense in every match. It didn’t seem to matter as she finished the season with 381 kills and a .271 efficiency. Ehler is going down as one of the best hitters in Raiders history. Her positive attitude and leadership, helped a team that only returned two regulars from last season, share the Twin Lakes Conference Championship. She isn’t just a dominant offensive player, adding 216 digs, second on the team and 30 blocks, ranking third on the team. Ehler ranked second on the team in aces with 44 while serving a 91.5% efficiency. 

 

Harlow Miller- Audubon 

Miller was incredible all season for the Wheelers, though every team knew she was going to get the ball the vast majority of the time. She ended her junior season with 350 of the team’s 595 kills, hitting .216. She had to work against double blocks at the net and became a strong hitter out of the back row. Miller is a force on defense at the net or in the back row. She paced the Wheelers in blocks with 59 and finished third in digs with 208. Her 43 aces was second for the Wheelers, serving a 86.45 efficiency. Miller took her game to the next level this season and could be just scratching the surface of how good she may be. 

 

Jayci Graeve- South Central Calhoun 

The senior wrapped up her career as a four time All-Rewind selection and has been 1st team for three straight years. She was a setter the first-two years before moving to hitter as the team needed last season. She took her game to another level this season, leading the Titans with 355 kills while hitting .211. She filled in as setter a few matches, adding 108 assists. Graeve grew into a strong back row presence for the Titans, finishing with 239 digs, third on the team along with 25 blocks, also third on the team. Her energy on the floor and leadership were keys to the Titans sharing the Twin Lakes Conference Title and reaching a Regional Final. 

 

Brenna McAlister- South Central Calhoun

McAlister was a special player for the Titans for four years, earning All-Rewind honors every season. She is one of the most explosive hitters in the area. The ball makes a different sound coming off  her hand then you hear from most hitters. Her celebration after a block or kill rivals Maggie Anderson for the best in Titans history. She did a lot of damage, playing with an injury that limited her this season. She still finished second on the team with 315 kills, hitting .165. McAlister is really good in the back row, adding 282 digs. Her jump serve is one of the best around. She routinely gets teams out-of-system, allowing the Titans to get a lot of free balls. She is also an ace serving machine, finishing with 78 aces and a 91.3% efficiency. 

 

Malia Clayburg- Coon Rapids Bayard

Clayburg played at an elite level for the Crusaders all season, helping them win the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament and finish with their best record since 2008-2009. She is a tremendous athlete with a huge heart and never quit attitude. She paced the Crusaders with 356 kills, hitting .267. Oftentimes she would take over late in sets to help the Crusaders earn wins. As good of a hitter as she is, she might be just as good in the back row. She finished third on the team with 267 digs, adding 18 blocks in the front row to type for the team lead. Clayburg was the best server for Coon Rapids Bayard, leading them with 33 aces and a 87.7% efficiency. She returns for her senior season as the Crusaders didn’t have a senior on the roster this season. 

 

1st Team and Rewind Player of the Year

Brianna Wittrock- Kuemper 

You saw the potential a year ago as Wittrock had a strong season for the Knights. It all came together this season, becoming a focal point for the team and a leader on the floor. Defenses had to focus on her or she would hurt them all match long. It didn’t stop her from having big matches, even with defenses knowing she was going to get a lot of sets. She paced the Knights with 338 kills, hitting .310. She wasn’t just dominant at the net on offense, Wittrock led Class 3A in blocks with 152 overall and 118 of them solo. Her defense at the net and in the back row helped set her apart from everyone.  She added 198 digs this season, finishing fourth on the team. She is strong in serve receive or digging. Wittrock can do it all and showed it with 51 aces and a 92.7% efficiency. 

 

Coach of the Year

Rusty Wintermote- Kuemper 

Kuemper made their third straight trip to the State Tournament under Head Coach Rusty Wintermote. The Knights returned a nice core but had to work in several young players at the net and establish new leaders along with finding a go to hitter. Wintermote and his staff did a great job helping mix the youth with the veterans, forming a bond with the team. The Knights got off to a great start, going 25-0 before falling to Heelan in the CYO Tournament Championship match. They started the season with big wins over Van Meter on opening night and topped South Hardin, Humboldt and South Central Calhoun at a late August Tournament. The Knights kept it rolling with a win over Roland Story at home in early September. They kept it rolling, beating Clarinda on the road, then earning another tournament title at South Central Calhoun. After a tough loss to Glenwood the Knights bounced back to beat Lewis Central to earn a piece of the Hawkeye 10 Conference Championship. The downed Ankeny Christian to win the Hampton-Dumont Tournament. The Knights finished the season 37-4.
